Betsy has worked out to be a tremendous tutor for our daughter. They’ve been working together really well for over a year and have developed a trusting and happy relationship. Our daughters maths skills have rapidly improved - working on the basics has certainly built up her confidence and she now tackles problems she’d otherwise have been nervous of. They’re working solidly towards the 11+ exams in a few months time and will be starting to work on English skills in the coming weeks. We really like Betsy. Betsy was a great help preparing my twins for the 11+. We designed a plan and sometimes worked in a small group with other children. This really helped improved my daughter’s confidence as the working exercises were difficult sometimes and questions needed to be broken down in steps.

Betsy’s been working with our year 2, 6 year old son for 6 months now & the results have been awesome. He was stressed and miserable throughout year 1; would come home crying because he didn’t even know how to hold a pencil, and had virtually no idea what he was supposed to be doing in the classroom. Within 5 minutes of the first tutor session I could see the first of many eureka moments for him as Betsy helped him make sense of things. It was such a massive relief for him and us to see that he could do it!! The progress has continued in handwriting, maths and literacy, and his confidence has grown - the kid who wrote (according to teachers) 4 words in a 40 minute independent writing task a few months back, today spontaneously sat & wrote a coherent paragraph about a half term outing! And he clearly enjoys the sessions which we couldn’t have imagined given how negative he was about school. Both myself & partner agree it’s the best thing we’ve ever done for our son.

I looked for an essay writing summer tutor for my children as I feel the English system does not focus on teaching children how to present analytical thinking in written form but rather mainly on content. It seems to be assumed that the children will find their way to writing good essays (and clearly many do). However, coming from the American system, in which the process of HOW to write a good essay is taught almost as a standalone subject, I felt that my children would be best served going into a writing task with the strongest possible toolset so that the ideas and ultimately what to write would become their only challenge. How to write would be second nature. I contacted Tania at Uber Tutors after a lot of research and, via her incredibly personalised interview approach, she matched a fantastic tutor with my children. Over the course of the summer, they learned how to structure, present and write an argument. They also learned how to incorporate evidence, be it literary, historical or data driven. Not only do they now approach every school essay confidently (dare I say enthusiastically?) but their teachers have mentioned their writing skills to me across the curriculum. Uber tutors helped my son to improve from year 8 level(when he was at year 10) to year 11 within one year. They have a very good system that starts by assessing the the level of the child and then recommended the lessons required. However it doesn't end there. They also consider the child's personality and meticulously find the best tutor who would mach with the child. I completed the Essay Crash Course during the summer before my final year at university. I hugely benefited from the process as I learned skills to finally understand what a university essay demands in order to achieve a first. This course closed the huge gap in teaching how to write a university level essay. I now feel equipped to complete my final year and hope to increase my marks from a 2:1 to a first as a result of the valuable tools learned during the course. My matched tutor was really helpful and gave in-depth explanations to give me confidence in the new method of writing, something I did not learn at university. During the course I worked on an example question from one of my university papers with my tutor which was a hugely valuable exercise. I now have a worked example alongside the explanations given during the sessions which I will use throughout my final year. I will now implement what I have learned from this course and make significant changes to my work which I hope will be the difference between a 2:1 and first class degree.
