A traditional pub with lots of atmosphere so not a chain "trendy bar". Bar staff are always friendly as are the regular patrons. On one visit the bar staff were looking after an elderly lady who had been soaked in the rain. Seating around the bar is quirky, with old school desks and seats. Good range of spirits and hand pulled ales. Is very popular so can get very busy.
Really fabulous lunch. Glad I booked because even on a Tuesday it was full. Our waitress was amazing despite how busy the pub was. It is a wonderful eclectic mix and a step back in time with roaring fires, good beer and great food.
New Year’s Eve luncheon for 7 persons. We’re able to get a table booking despite leaving it to 24-hrs in advance. Lovely historic pub. Friendly and attentive table service in the dining area (there are a couple of different dining areas in this large pub.) For visitors to Winchester and its cathedral this is a recommended venue. Lovely room with great character. I really enjoyed the breakfast. Nice to see the pub early at breakfast, a real chance to see all the history on the walls
