Throwback Coffee House

45 Northgate, Wakefield WF1 3BH, UK | Cafe
P: Not available

Rating: 4.8 (239) Price Level:

Wakefield’s go-to café for a plant-based breakfast or brunch. The food is all made from scratch with care, and the results are impressive (especially the baked goods!). However, be aware that the space is limited, so it can get crowded, especially on weekends. The airflow could also be better, so you may leave smelling like cooking. Overall, it’s a good spot for a coffee and a plant-based bite to eat.

Called in for a oat milk latter and was pleasantly surprised beautiful decor friendly staff and the coffee was delicious Wish I could have had some of the sweet treats because they looked amazing If your vegan this place is one of the best to go for a coffee in Wakefield

Visited in May 2023. Not sure I would call this place ‘family-friendly’, but would be a good meeting place for friends although it is a small cafe. Staff not very attentive initially, had to ask for menus. Unfortunately had also ran out of Biscoff for pancakes/drinks which was a shame. Having said that, the drinks/food we had were actually really well-made, tasty and were served quickly. Good display of vegan bakes to take out also. Would come again with vegan friends for coffee/brunch.

Great place! Delicious food (I had the Chai French Toast). Loved knowing food was safe for my allergy due to it being a plant based cafe. Will be going again!

Went for brunch with a friend. We ordered the all day burrito and the breakfast burrito with coffees and juice. Coffee tasted amazing and the burritos were lovely. Would have benefitted from a tomato based sauce. Staff were really attentive and service was quick. Would highly recommend. The coffee house benefits from outdoor seating and is dog friendly.

A very good English breakfast at a great price! The Cabin does different-sized breakfasts, what you get for each size is marked on the menu, which I like. They trim the fat from the thick and extremely tasty bacon, beautiful sausage and not a single grease mark on the plate! What more could you ask for?

This was the first time I have been in was to have a meeting there. I was really impressed with the selection of coffee, the display of home bake sweet and savoury delights was so inviting I could resist. The owner is very passionate about his coffee and we had a great chat about coffee and the history of his suppliers and around how hard his wife works baking all the items for the shop. Don't just walk past go in, you won't be disappointed!

We've been customers at Vanilla Bean for years now and can honestly say hand on heart we've never been disappointed. Every bake is masterfully created with high quality ingredients and this is reflected in the high quality of the bakes. The baker, Lianna and her husband who own the business are always incredibly friendly, as are their service staff, Hannah especially who we have had most interaction with, is always pleasant and makes customers feel welcome. On our latest visit we were incredibly impressed with the innovative cups now being used which are lidless! They function fantastically and this really serves as a perfect example of why it's important to support small, independent businesses - they care. When a small company like Vanilla Bean starts to use innovation to reduce their plastic waste it really highlights how large corporate coffee chains may say they care about the environment but do little in the way of backing up their words with actions. Would highly recommend any visit to Vanilla Bean, you certainly won't regret it!

Nice small coffee and cake place. My son brings cake from here when visiting. First time and not bad. Quick to serve, tasty drink and cake, enough options. Only issue was icing was too thick on the school cake.

Shhh! Don’t tell anyone, but this is the best coffee place in Wakefield! I’m regular there from the very beginning and never disappointed. Owners are lovely and all their staff as well! Always welcoming and kind. I get flat whites, turmeric latte, occasionally bakes, they’re delicious. Stylish interior, nice outdoor area. Parking nearby! Thanks Vanilla Bakes!

Rating: 5 (28) Price Level:

Good to see the café on the station as reopened. The station it's self is very basic no facilities that's worth a mention. Sure the cafe will do really well, good selection of drinks and snacks. At least I can get a coffee when delayed, or before bordering.

Nice modern cafe with comfortable seating and powerpoints. Coffee and hot chocolate both nice. Staff friendly and helpful. Good to have a staff presence on the station and the station overall feels a lot more of a welcoming, modern and vibrant place than it used to.

I had the pleasure of having a coffee here a few days ago - due to a cancelled train. I can tell you: I am happy it got cancelled! This place is a little gem! The staff are so polite, attentive and so professional. My coffee was delicious (best flat white ever!). Excellent service/atmosphere and an immaculate place, brilliant.

The food is very good, you have to wait a bit if you want to eat something fresh and good, so don't expect to be served directly. One thing I don't like is that they don't prepare any of the cakes they have displayed at the entrance.

On Track Coffee

Mulberry Wy, Wakefield WF1 2QN, UK | Coffee Shop
P: 01924 371737

Rating: 4.9 (45) Price Level:

Easily the best coffee shop in Wakefield and surrounding areas. The staff here are so friendly and will always be up for a chat. The shop is beautifully put together, complete with a window seat to people watch while you enjoy what can only be described as the perfect flat white (or latte in this case). All their milk based drinks are spot on as they go above and beyond when preparing their drinks, you'll notice this in the milk temperature and velvety consistency. I always find an excuse to nip in here. If at any point they opened a large shop with plenty of seating I'm sure it'd thrive in the same way!

Went in with some old friends for breakfast, Andrea and Karen made us feel really welcome and sorted us a bigger table straight away. The place is set up brilliantly for it, with a great toy corner to keep little ones entertained. Food was spot on and great value, good selection of drinks and homemade buns were an added bonus. Will definitely be in again, either with kids or just for a quiet coffee and a chat.

Excellent hand pour available here. Would be nice if batch brew was also available - the hand pour made up for it, though it was fairly expensive. I’m fairly confident this is the best place in Wakefield for specialty coffee fans. The baked stuff was excellent too. I had some kind of croissant hybrid.

Came for a quick drink. First time I'd visited. Smart modern feel to the place.Coffee shop during the day, bar on a Friday and Saturday evening. Prices reasonable.Great service from Nathan and Ryan, friendly, helpful and welcoming. Hats off to Nathan who mixed the best margarita in Wakefield. U The best used to be at another place across the road but Nathan really made it spot on, not just once but a few times, presentation needed a little work but the taste was perfect. Tried many margaritas around Wakefield and around the world but this was sublime. Well worth a visit.
