Quex Barn Farm Shop and Restaurant

Rating: 4.2 (410) Price Level:
If you are looking for a bargain - this isn't the place. If you are looking for quality, variety, exceptional customer service - this IS the place to come! Not only has the place got a fish monger, butcher, deli & cheese counter, it has a pizza parlour and a lovely café as well as a wide range of homemade frozen food and a little pet corner outside. The staff here are exceptional and very helpful. The food on sale, especially on the fresh side of things is expensive, for example a scotch egg is £2.75, however, it isn't a supermarket scotch egg! The products we purchased were of the highest quality and they are well worth the extra £! The staff were brilliant, certainly worth shouting about especially the young lady on the deli / cheese counter today who was so nice. Certainly revisiting - Thank You

Walnut Tree
Forge Hill, Roman Rd, Aldington, Ashford TN25 7DT, UK | Pub P: 01233 720298
Rating: 4.4 (479) Price Level:
My husband and I went out for a lunch date, staff were very polite and friendly and had a good knowledge of specials and the food served generally. Had a steak that you cook yourself at the table it was a fun experience something different and tasty. Very good value for money they offer a good range of meals at a budget price and starter and main deals for £12. Beautiful pub, has great outside space with a play area for children, look forward to visiting in the summer with the children

Lovely country pub in the gorgeous village of Adlington. Went in for a beer and had great time with the staff and locals. The warmest of warm welcomes. Great Shepherd Neame beer too. We didn’t eat but it smelled lovely.
Rating: 5 / 5
We booked a table for 14 people, even though most of us had the Sunday roast a few others had something different on the menu but it was all bought out together. The scotch egg starter was really nice. I had roast beef which was absolutely gorgeous, very lean, with Yorkshire pudding and roasties. The veg was served separately and there was plenty for all of us that had the roast, loved the cheesy broccoli. The lasagne and curry dish was a big hit aswell. The staff were brilliant ,attentive and very patient with us considering there was so many at the table. Will definitely return.

We used to go to the Walnut Tree a lot before it changed hands and due to a number of things hadn’t been back. We decided to have Sunday lunch there and called them to ask if they could do it as takeaway and they happily agreed. My daughter collected it and we were very surprised as it was well packed and still hot. We decided on beef and we were each given 2 large, thick slices which were lovely…..nice and succulent. We also had roast potatoes, broccoli cheese, peas, carrots, green beans, broccoli spears, a big homemade Yorkshire, stuffing and lovely gravy. For pudding we had sticky toffee pudding and custard. It was really delicious…..large portions…..we will definitely be back. Well done to the new owners…..the food was worth every penny……

Dukes Head
The Dukes Head Main Road, Sellindge, Ashford TN25 6EG, UK | Restaurant P: 01303 812131
Rating: 4.4 (430) Price Level:
My wife and I recently dined at the Dukes Head Pub, and it was an extraordinary culinary experience from start to finish. We both chose the roast lamb as our main course, and it was cooked to perfection. The tenderness of the meat and the rich flavors left us craving for more. For dessert, we indulged in a delightful assortment of sweet treats. The sticky toffee pudding was a heavenly concoction of warm, moist cake drenched in luscious toffee sauce, and it was a delightful way to end our meal. The treacle tart was a nostalgic and comforting dessert, with its sweet and gooey filling encased in a crisp pastry shell. It brought back memories of homemade treats from our childhood. Last but not least, the Banoffee pie was a revelation. The combination of creamy toffee, fresh bananas, and a buttery crust was a symphony of flavors and textures that danced on our taste buds. The service was impeccable, and the cozy ambiance of the pub added to the overall charm of our dining experience. We left with full hearts and satisfied palates, and we can't wait to return to the Dukes Head Pub for more culinary adventures. If you're looking for a memorable meal, this place is an absolute must-visit.

Lovely food, staff were so attentive and polite. The best belly pork I had ever had (was on the special) Lovely decor looked so good this evening. Definitely return and recommend

Popped in for lunch and hadn't booked. They were fully booked with Christmas parties but found us a decent table. The food was divine and I highly recommend the risotto. Ellie was kind, smiley and attentive despite clearly battling the cold everyone has. This was a spontaneous visit for my Mum and I, she enjoyed the Scampi and chips. We were both very pleased with our impromptu visit, will recommend and definitely be back! Thank you Dukes Head!

The Waves Bar, Cafe, B and B Hotel
2 Hengist Rd, Birchington-on-Sea, Birchington CT7 9QP, UK | Bed & Breakfast P: 01843 840732
Rating: 4.4 (366) Price Level:
Cafe/restaurant and bar at Minus bay in Kent. It is also possible to stay there but I didn't so can't comment on that part. In the day The Waves bar is primarily a cafe serving breakfast until 3pm plus a good selection of rolls and sandwiches, jacket potatoes, hot dogs/burgers and a selection of main meals.i would say prices are moderate but I find the food to be good, the service is always friendly too! Your well behaved four legged friend is welcome as well. In the evening the venue becomes a tapas restaurant and they have occasional live music plus they have a quiz quite frequently. Their dessert menu is filled with classics like sticky toffee pudding, sorted dick and Bramley apple crumble as well a cheese board. They do sell alcohol including cocktails. On a nice day it's lovely to sit outside as it's right by the sea. There are customer toilets including one for disabled users plus a baby change. There is plenty of parking, a lot is free but there is also a pay for car park if the free spaces have all gone.

The food is outstanding and the staff are so friendly. We try and go as often as we can. If you love Steak and Kidney pudding, this is the best place to find it.

Amazing place. Lovely clean room, fantastic location and fab breakfast. Jane can't do enough to make your stay wonderful.
Rating: 5 / 5
We've been a few times recently as we love cycling and walking along this stretch of coast even though it's a little further for us than our normal haunts! The food is excellent - the brie and bacon roll special even eclipsed the very good bacon and egg sarnie :o). The staff are exceptionally friendly and service is very quick and efficient. We love dogs and all of the resident and visiting pooches have been very well behaved on every visit. Our own dog also enjoys a visit as she usually gets a sausage or some bacon (or even an ice cream!) and also enjoys sampling from every water bowl! Definitely recommended for a rest and refuel before, during, or after a walk or bike ride along this glorious stretch of coast.

Smugglers
212 Canterbury Rd, Birchington-on-Sea, Birchington CT7 9AQ, UK | Restaurant P: 01843 841185
Rating: 4.4 (342) Price Level:
What a lovely way to spend Valentine’s Day, had the set menu, was super tasty and I thought the price was very good considering taste & service. I had the sweet chilli halloumi, fillet Rossini and Baileys cheesecake. Thoroughly enjoyed all three courses.
Rating: 5 / 5
We celebrated our wedding at the Smuggler's Inn in May. As a wedding venue and family-run restaurant, we highly recommend this beautiful historic place! Bob, Lisa and the team were incredibly helpful, transparent and communicative and made sure everything ran smoothly on the day. The venue cost and three course meals were very reasonably priced so that we were able to have the small wedding we wanted without restricting ourselves! Our friends and family had nothing but praise for the food, everyone was very impressed. The function room can be decorated nicely, and the Smugglers has a lovely outdoor area where a ceremony can be held. We've also dined at the Smugglers before and admired the home-cooked quality of the food, the fact they serve a bread roll and butter with dinner, and the obvious passion of the owners for their restaurant. Uploading some pictures of the venue and food shot by the amazing Jade Brya Photography (also active in Thanet and highly recommended!)
Rating: 5 / 5
The Smugglers held a wake for my family. They produced sandwiches, cake, coffee and tea. Perfect for our needs that day. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Communication before the event was efficient. They have very limited parking, but there is parking pay and display a short distance away. I would recommend.
Rating: 5 / 5
The Smugglers catered for our mum's 70th birthday today, we chose afternoon tea for 30 people. The service was great, very attentive warm and accommodating. The sandwiches were tasty, ham was particularly nice. The cakes and scones were outstanding, warm and freshly baked scones with proper clotted cream and jam were absolutely delicious. Their regular menu looked good so will have to go back to try it.

Food was fantastic, great portion size for the price, food was well presented and came out quickly. Staff were friendly and the service was great. The only thing was that we chose to sit outside which was the right decision as it was boiling inside! Parking was a bit of a pain but it is an amazing place would highly recommend.

Esquires Coffee - Maidstone
23 Gabriel's Hill, Maidstone ME15 6HR, UK | Coffee Shop P: Not available
Rating: 4.4 (407) Price Level:
A nice place to go for some food and a coffee. We went on a late Sunday morning for brunch and it was my first time going. I was not sure what the setup was with going to order your food/drink yourself. Could have had a little sign or one of the staff just letting me know but I figured it out in the end. The food and drink I don't have any complaints with as it was great. The apple juice tasted like I just put a straw in an apple. And the full English was lovely and fresh also with some amazing bacon. I would have liked to have a fried egg but they could only offer scrambled on the day. Overall a great place to eat and get a coffee. Would recommend.

Employees were very nice and welcoming. I ordered an almond milk latte and toast which was good (it’s kinda hard to f up toast). The latte tastes a lot like the one from Costa, not very strong

Rating: 4.4 (364) Price Level:
The best fry-up I've had so far. I enjoyed it so much that I came back 3 times in a week! The quality is very good, the staff are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and overall just a great experience. I highly recommend their Rocky Special breakfast.

Healthy and tasty roadside breakfast in the UK! Rare find. Choose egg salad for a gluten free option.
Rating: 5 / 5
Popped in while working in the area. Cracking cafe with plenty of seating and a welcome and clean environment. Served efficiently by professional and courteous members of staff and very impressed with the Set 1 breakfast. All ingredients cooked to perfection, full of flavour and unlike other cafes I've frequented, didn't leave a pool of grease behind. Also well priced considering the quality and service received. I would most definitely return if I'm in these parts again and would recommend if asked.

Lived in Ashford for many years and never been here till today. Was a bit apprehensive thinking it would be a greasy spoon cafe but how wrong was I. It was lovely, clean /tidy fresh looking, staff were friendly and welcoming. Definitely will be back and will recommend to friends/family

The Orchards Cafe
2 Little E, East Malling, West Malling ME19 6BH, UK | Cafe P: 01732 523781
Rating: 4.1 (36) Price Level:
A fine cafe providing a range of hot and cold food along with similar drinks. Service provided in friendly surroundings. Very tastey local apple juice well worth trying!
Rating: 5 / 5
Not widely known that this great cafe is open to the public. Good food friendly staff. So close to Kent's renowned research orchards.
Rating: 4 / 5
An impromptu visit recently with my children but was unknowingly in the window between breakfast & lunch. The server was very helpful and made me a ham salad sandwich as after the walk from East Malling I didnt have much time. The Fresh loaves of bread on sale were great value & the selection of cakes very tempting Would recommend better signage on foot as I walked the whole way round following the road signs not realising it was in the middle of the buildings
Rating: 4 / 5
Called in for a coffee and chocolate snack during our regular 6 mile walk from Allington to East Malling and back. Friendly, clean and good value. Only open on weekdays.
Rating: 5 / 5
Rode past a few years ago on way to Labour at the new EMRC site being built and thought it was for employees only. Discovered today whilst looking for a local cafe to take the partner and son for a quick bite, that it is open to public too, so thought we'd give it a try. Turned out to be a fantastic decision. Lovely spot with the friendliest staff you'll find anywhere. Food top notch and reasonably priced and best of all it's HOT. Plenty of space for meetings or a quiet bite, the staff having meetings are barely audible and very respectful of the surroundings even when sat one table over. It is clear the owners and managers of this establishment care about what they do. It's a whole package breakfast/lunch experience, lovely landscaped surroundings, wonderful food, and a service to match. You can access it on foot or by car, and is only a short distance from the nearest bus stop and train station. 5*s isn't enough. Will be coming back again VERY soon and I can't wait to visit when the orchards are in bloom.
