If you're craving authentic South Indian food in East Ham, Vasantha Vilas is the place to be. We were on the hunt for dosas and pooris, during our UK trip and this spot absolutely hit the mark. Ironically, the Vasantha Bhavan back in Chennai has a reputation for being, well… underwhelming. If this is the same family, they’ve clearly left their bad habits back in India because this East Ham branch was a revelation.
The food was so good that we came back for a second visit before catching our flight home. Everything we ordered—Ghee Roast, Ghee Masala Roast, Pooris, Chapatis, even the milkshakes—was fresh, and packed with flavor. It was like revisiting those legendary Udipi joints from Chennai, minus the chaos and stainless-steel tumblers.
What made the experience even better was the service. Our server, Krithiga, was outstanding—polite, cheerful, and genuinely invested in ensuring we had a great meal. When one of our appetizers, the Crispy Baby Corn, was delayed, she let us know the chef felt it didn’t meet their standards and replaced it without us even asking. That level of care and honesty is so rare, especially in Indian restaurants, where the default approach is often to insist the food is fine and the customer is the problem. This was a refreshing change.
A couple of notes: the restaurant is small, and the tables are quite close together, so it can get crowded. But the quality of the food and service more than makes up for it. And for London, the prices are incredibly reasonable.
If you’re a fan of South Indian vegetarian food, Vasantha Vilas is a must-visit. Let’s just hope they keep up the fantastic quality and service because it’s a rare gem that truly delivers. Highly recommended!
Tried this restaurant for the first time, and it was a wonderful experience! The service was incredibly quick, and the food was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to others!
If there was an option to give 6 stars i would. They deserve a 6 star for every aspect. Food was the best south Indian food i have had in London 6 stars on that. The value for money is insane, they have priced most items so economically without compromising the taste or quality of food, seems almost impossible for London. The staff are also very courteous, kind and attentive. You can definitely expect a queue but its worth the wait.
The food here is seriously amazing—definitely the best I’ve had outside of India! Every dish was bursting with flavor and looked fantastic. I’m super thankful for this awesome dining experience. If you love real Indian food, you’ve got to check this place out. I can’t wait to come back the next time I’m in London to enjoy these incredible dishes again. Trust me, you’ll want to dive into this culinary adventure—you won’t regret it!
Excellent food. Definitely one of the best vegetarian restaurants in London. Medu Vada was excellent, reminded me of the taste in Bangalore. Gobi Manchurian was not too hot, tasted great. Paneer tika masala was excellent too. Masala chai was awesome too.
Service by Sahithi was excellent too. She was quick and responded to all requests on a very crowded afternoon.

"A local stop worth making. We ordered the tuna & mayo and chicken tikka panini with J2O. The service was friendly and felt homely. The place was clean..."
