I'd almost rather not review the School House Cafe, and to keep it to myself. Its noble aim, as I understand, is to give work experience to autistic students. That doesn't imply anything about the atmosphere, which is totally relaxed and friendly. The food, which is vegetable-based, is interesting and delicious, plus affordable. There is a small regular menu, supplemented by daily specials. It is a real asset to Bermondsey, but it would be in any location.

A Hidden Gem with Spectacular Food and Warm Hospitality Bell’s cafe is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great food and a welcoming atmosphere. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with warmth and friendliness that makes you feel right at home. The owner is truly amazing, going above and beyond to ensure every visit is special. The food is nothing short of spectacular. Their smashed avocado with feta on toast, topped with a perfectly fried egg, is an absolute delight—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. And as a self-proclaimed picky coffee drinker, I must say, their caramelized iced latte is my all-time favorite. They get it right every single time, which speaks volumes about their attention to detail and quality. Bella’s cafe is the perfect spot for a relaxed meal or coffee break. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food, excellent coffee, and an environment that feels like a second home.

The moment I landed here in the UK, my friend insisted that we absolutely *must* eat at Bell's Cafe! Situated at the edge of Spa Park, Bell's is a cozy little hangout for all ages where she, the owner, knows everyone by name. For the kiddos, she has pint-sized tables, chairs, toys, and coloring books. She has a wide array of menu items to cover the pickiest of eaters (me) to the most adventurous of palates. She also caters to the furry 4-legged crowd too. All of her food is freshly made to order and if there's something you don't see amongst the pastries, she may make them right in front of you if it's not super busy. Even after she delivers the food to your table, she checks in to make sure that everything is done to your liking and chats with you to get to know you. All in all, I came in as a stranger and left as a friend. Thanks Bell!

Monmouth Coffee Company

P: 020 7232 3010

Rating: 5 (11) Price Level:

Fantastic addition to the local coffee scene around Bermondsey station. So nice that Monmouth has expanded into this space with ample seating. Same great coffee, and also pastries from Little Bread Pedlar, which are baked around the corner. You can buy freshly roasted beans here as well, which I do every week for brewing at home. Super friendly staff and expertly made espresso beverages mean that I will be here quite often!

Great new outpost of Monmouth to expand on their old spot in the railway arches. Always super friendly staff and rarely a wait. This place has multiple seating options and a loo, and is open during the week with everything from pain au chocolat to canelles to quiche to snack on. Lots to draw people to this buzzing location right in the heart of the food scene.

Really nice new venue. Plenty of seating that's well spaced out. I like that you're not squished next to other tables etc. I feel like this area has been screaming out for a coffee shop open on weekdays so very happy to see this place open. The coffee is delish and the staff are sweet and friendly. If doing take out, do take your own cup!

Monmouth Coffee Bermondsey is a spacious, welcoming addition to the neighborhood with some standout features: ✅ Delicious Coffee: Oat lattes made with Oatly Barista (£4)—delicious and comparable to top specialty coffee shops. ✅ Eco-Friendly: No disposable cups, only returnable ones with a £5 deposit—a great sustainability initiative. ✅ Warm Atmosphere: Homely wooden decor, dog- and family-friendly, with thoughtful touches like bag hooks at every seat. ✅ Local Pastries: High-quality baked goods from a local bakery. ✅ Specialty Coffee: Beans from various origins available to purchase by the kilo. Things to Note: ❗ No WiFi Yet: Not ideal for work; mobile data also struggles indoors. ❗ Limited Hours: Closes early at 3 p.m. most days. ❗ Cold Inside: It can feel a bit chilly—most people kept their jackets on. Overall, a promising café with room to grow. Perfect for coffee lovers and a great spot to relax and catch up with friends!

This place is my go-to neighbourhood spot! The staff are always quick and friendly, and the coffee/pastries are delicious. My only note is they always seem to run out of croissants, no matter what time I get there. I would love to see more stocked so I could actually try one!

Flat white is average - slightly disappointed as there was not much aroma from the bean. Microfoam was amazingly done tho. Tried a bunch of the pastries - namely the ricotta cheesecake, miso cookie and cinnamon buns & the gay one sandwich which were all alright. We particularly enjoyed the naughty one sandwich!

Very nice brunch experience. We tried the veg house and it had right amount of all ingredients. They have special flavorful coffee sourced carefully from different countries that is a must try (we also bought some). Inside is very clean and service was great. There was some line for brunch but it moved quickly. We will definitely be back here!

Pure joy visiting this WatchHouse for a Sunday brunch. There was a little queue, but 20 min def worth the wait. I had the most satisfying eggs Benedict. I chose one of the Gesha coffees from the rarities list, and got offered a complementary batch coffee while I wait. Very very friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommend!

We arrived as a group of 5 in the lashing rain to a small queue, but it was absolutely worth the wait. We were seated really quickly as soon as a table became available. I have an allergy to soybeans and the staff members were SO attentive and caring when dealing with it. I particularly have to mention Leila who was so patient and understanding, even when we landed in with suitcases and damp clothes! The menu was unfortunately not extremely accessible for me with this allergy but nonetheless the options I had were delicious. The portions were slightly small for the price but amazingly presented and really tasty. The vibe was amazing in the restaurant also, really nice for a morning brunch or even a coffee.

How can I not leave a 5 star review?! Greeted with smile at every entry the staff at Barton’s never fail to make you feel welcomed, feeling welcomed is one thing but the service they provide is incredible. There’s no better place I can think of to rewind and relax after a long day at work. People reading books , playing cards while listening to great music. I can’t think of a more tranquil place to spend my evening. While at Barton’s today I enjoyed a lovely glass of wine played a game of cards and in no time after ordering, our pizzas arrived ! which was Delicious. I could not fault it. It went down a treat. I would most certainly come to Barton’s over and over again, with no hesitation.

Such a cute little Café. It's just a short walk from Tower Bridge and the prices and people are so much lower than if you go to a Café directly in the centre there. It is self service but the very nice staff bring the items to you after you ordered. It is very cozy and sweet (they even give their plants names and Pablo was such a nice companion) and the food and drinks are amazing. Totally recommend!

P: 020 7378 6063

Rating: 4.5 (394) Price Level:

Ok, if you want the traditional London cafes to survive, don’t walk past Al’s for a more costly and pretentious version of brunch, it’s all here. It’s proper British food, with good portions and it’s tasty and filling. The decaf coffee was flavourful and tasted like good coffee :) we will be back again when we visit. It’s cosy and friendly, and it’ll fill you up before a walk along the Thames.

I recently visited and had a BLT bagel with a coffee. The bagel was really tasty and fresh, which I loved! The coffee, while decent, wasn't anything extraordinary. The café had a lively and busy atmosphere, which I appreciated, but the space is a bit tight. If it had been fully packed, I probably wouldn't have stayed. Also, the long seats weren't very comfortable for a longer visit. Overall, a good experience with great food. Food is very well priced too!

I've lived around the corner in Bermondsey Street for six years and went to Al's Cafe for the first time this week. My partner has been by himself a few times when he says he needs some carbs. On this occasion i decided to go with him and I really enjoyed my veggie breakfast with my fried egg well done as requested. They said we could take our dog inside and gave her a sausage which she ate in a matter of seconds. It's a well executed traditional cafe or greasy spoon serving an array of breakfasts along with sandwiches and jacket potatoes. The service is prompt and super friendly. The interiors are clean and welcoming. On my visit there were a mix of locals, office workers having meetings and tradespeople. It is a great place to enjoy a traditional breakfast which is value for money.

This is a must go to coffee shop, if you only have time for one coffee shop in London go here! I got an excellent flat white with soy milk. I love that they give you a card that tells you about the coffee they used in your drink. I also bought a bag of beans while I was here and the barista was helpful in helping me decide between the different varieties. This unique location of watchhouse is in an old watchhouse so the space is quite small making it super cozy.

Nestled in the heart of Bermondsey, The WatchHouse is an absolute gem that I return to time and time again. This coffee spot perfectly blends the charm of London’s history with a modern, welcoming atmosphere. The coffee here is exceptional—crafted with precision and passion. What truly sets The WatchHouse apart is its ambiance and the people who bring it to life. The thoughtful design, warm lighting, and cosy corners, enhanced by the warmth of a wood fire, create an ideal setting for anything, be it a quiet moment with a book, or soaking in the vibe of Bermondsey Street. The staff, much like Gian a friendly, warm, and generous soul, are consistently attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to make your experience unforgettable. For coffee lovers and seekers of a peaceful urban retreat, The WatchHouse is an unmissable destination. It’s not just a coffee spot…it’s an experience, a ritual, and a highlight of my London life.

Having always been a fan of Crol and Co’s London Bridge location, I was excited to finally check out their South Bermondsey shop while in the area. The coffee here—my oat latte (£4.40, eat-in, served in a reusable cup)—is just as excellent as at their other spot, smooth and well-balanced. The shop itself is tiny but charming, with a cozy, homey vibe that’s inviting for a quick break. However, I was disappointed to learn they don’t allow laptops on weekends, which caught me off guard as I was planning to kill a few hours before my next appointment. While the quality is on point, I likely won’t return due to the combination of location and the no-laptop policy. That said, if you happen to be in South Bermondsey and are looking for a quick coffee stop, it’s a delightful option!
