Today was my first time visiting Mrs P’s Hair after reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews, and I can already tell I will be a repeat customer. Gemma and her Team are lovely and made me feel very welcome. The haircut itself is the best one I’ve had in a long time - Gemma just “got” my hair, was very thorough and attentive. Thank you and I am already looking forward to my next visit in a few weeks’ time.

I don't visit hair salons often. Partially because I can rarely afford it, but also because the vibes are often.. non-welcoming, although I appreciate that's possibly partially a "me" thing as well, as I'm neurodivergent (and get verbal diarrhoea when I'm uncomfortable socially). Naturally, I spent a while researching local hairdressers - to complicate matters, I also am chronically ill, have curly/wavy hair, previously used the curly girl method and stuck to curly hairdressers, but since my health has declined I've not been able to maintain any kind of routine, especially not one that takes a while and involves bending over and diffusing for long periods of time. My hair was super long and damaged and dull, was constantly knotted beyond repair, to the point where, due to recent periods of needing to rest in bed, I was finding little matted knots at the ends. I was in desperate need of a cut, and my hair styled into something low-maintenance that I was still authentically "me" (think quirky vibes). I also had a fairly recent (massive) weight loss, and wanted to go for a hair cut that was previously not flattering on a chubbier face. The same name kept popping up: Gemma at Mrs P's. She seemed to have a cult following on the local Facebook pages, so I called and booked a consultation since I needed a bit of guidance and reassurance. The day before my consultation, I had some upsetting occurrences in my personal life, but I decided to brave it and go to the consultation anyway, despite feeling overwhelmed with my personal circumstances. So arrived at the Salon and Gemma was busy with a client but she welcomed me, apologised and told me to take a seat. She didn't make me feel forgotten though, and kept apologising, making eye contact and checking in with me while she finished up with her client. When she was ready, I sat in the chair, and immediately started crying, because the life circumstances felt relevant to wanting a bit of a change in hair style. Anyway, extremely embarrassing, right? Except, Gemma made me feel anything but embarrassed. She immediately gave me a massive hug, said some very sweet words (that I can't remember exactly, but made me cry more, but more so because of the unexpected genuine kindness and compassion from someone who, prior to five minutes beforehand, was a total stranger) She told me not to make any decisions today, because emotional decisions aren't always the right decisions, she instructed her team to book me in for an extended slot, and assured me she would look after me and to just gather some inspo pics before the appointment. Well, I left my appointment a few hours ago. To say that Gemma looked after me would be a ginormous understatement. I walked in, tense, trepidatious and fairly anxious. I left feeling understood (both in terms of my hair and in general), listened to, valued and pampered. My hair is EXACTLY what I wanted. In fact, I have always wanted a fringe, but having previously always carried a little extra weight, having a small forehead and a heart-shaped face, thought that it was destined never to be. I HAVE MY FRINGE! A proper fringe, not just fringe-esque curtain bangs, a full-on fringe. and it's amazing. Gemma is a wonderful hairdresser but is an even more wonderful human being. One of the best things about this salon, aside from the free Prosecco and banging tunes, is that Gemma carefully selects her staff not based on experience or qualification but based on their passion and COMPASSION for hair and for the people under the hair. The less experienced members of staff were intermittently listening to Gemma attentively as she worked on my hair (but not so much so that it felt intrusive in any way), not just because they're expected to as part of their job role, but because they're passionate about developing their craft. The team were friendly, approachable, the vibes were impeccable.

So happy with my hair today , such a lovely atmosphere and friendly team . Thank you for looking after me today , and a Christmas goodie bag too !! If you are looking for a new hairdresser i really recommend Mrs P’s you will not be disappointed. Merry Christmas and see you in January.

Gemma did my hair for my civil wedding at Danson House and she's really good at what she does. I wasn't sure what to expect as it was my first time trying out their services but I was very pleased with the result. It made me feel look so pretty on my special day! They were all so accommodating and helpful. The team have a really good working relationship and they are all very friendly. It was raining on the day and one of the lovely staff member helped me get to our car with her own umbrella. She even carried my bag for me which really, really sweet. It's a breath of fresh air and it would be lovely if more salons treat their customers in such a friendly and caring manner.

Before going to Mrs P’s I used to hate hairdressers as they were all so pretentious. I used to be a quick wet cut and out again. Mrs P’s is a fun experience and you feel part of the family. Your hair is always done amazingly and the girls come up with some great ideas if you’ve lost inspiration too x
