Super setting, very reasonable prices, great food and super people. April 2025 My photography group came here for lunch after exploring Hertford. We had a very warm welcome from the landlady who I remembered from a visit I made two years ago. We were given a table overlooking the canal - a beautiful setting with barges slowly making their way past. We were quickly served our drinks by Heather, who was helpful and charming. Though they didn't have all the drinks we wanted, Heather made excellent alternative suggestions. We all agreed our food was delicious from filled potatoes, ham and eggs to my enormous BBQ ribs and chips. I took half home with me as it was so delicious. The desserts looked good but we were far too full! Super setting, very reasonable prices, great food and super people. Highly recommended.

----UPDATE----- Came here again with my mum and we had a lovely time. The staff are all friendly and the food (schnitzel and vegan risotto were delicious!) ‐----------------------- I really like this pub, I have nice memories spending time here with my mum. I came here for lunch today and it was really nice. There is a good selection of vegan items. I had the gnocchi, my partner, the Moving Mountains burger. The gnocchi was a little too oily for me, but that could be down to personal preference, and it didn't stop me from finishing it! I did feel that the mains could have been a little cheaper, and I didn't like that the gnocchi was two prices, but I was charged the higher amount. I would however still return. The staff were lovely and there is a nice selection of beer.

A Delightful Canal-side Sunday Lunch at The Old Barge Nestled right beside the canal in Hertford, The Old Barge offers a lovely setting for a meal. We recently visited for Sunday lunch and were thoroughly impressed with the food. I opted for the Beef Topside with all the trimmings, and it was absolutely lovely – tender meat cooked perfectly and accompanied by delicious sides. My wife enjoyed a classic Ploughman's, which hit the spot. Our friend chose the Chicken Roast, and the portion was incredibly generous, practically half a chicken! They thoroughly enjoyed it. To finish, the Chocolate Fudge Cake was a rich and satisfying end to the meal. Overall, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The combination of the charming canal-side location and the quality of the food made for a fantastic experience. If you're looking for a hearty and tasty meal in Hertford, The Old Barge is definitely worth a visit. We'll certainly be back!
