Reviews
Nick has given the most amazing and successful learning support lessons to all four of my sons since 2011. My sons all have dyslexia with varying severities and all have very different personalities. Nick is a very experienced and capable teacher who has given my sons the tools and techniques to enable them to achieve their academic potentials. My eldest three are all currently studying academic subjects at Russell Group Universities. More importantly than academic success is that Nick has consistently empowered them to cope with all the challenges that dyslexia presents which has improved their self confidence. Nick has managed to make the lessons fun and enjoyable and all of my boys have looked forward to their weekly lessons and conversations with him. My youngest son, having heard so many positive stories about Nick, was very keen to start his learning support journey with Nick and I can already see the improvement in his spelling test results at school. He achieved an awesome 5/5 last week! As a parent I highly recommend Nick. My boys are all so incredibly fortunate to have him and will reap the rewards for the whole of their lives from these lessons
My daughter has been having private tuition with Nick over the last year. It has been wonderful to see her grow in confidence thanks to Nick. His support and enduring patience has helped to transform my daughter from a shy and reserved student to one who now beams with confidence. Thanks to Nick, she got a distinction in her English GCSE speaking exam and hopefully is now on course to secure a great grade in her English literature and English language GCSE's which she is currently taking. She has really enjoyed her time with Nick over the last year. A truly fantastic tutor and so much more supportive than anyone who has taught her before. I literally cannot recommend him enough!!!
Nick is simply fantastic! Our lad was struggling, with everything from phonetics, sounding words etc. We'd considered getting him assessed for dyslexia with a view we wanted to get him the help to find school less challenging. Nick provided his personal and professional advice on this matter, which intimately lead us to invest our time and money, into educational support rather than possibly labelling a learning issue with no further support being available from school. I spoke with Nick, discussed what we felt our son needed and he was keen know more and to meet us first. On meeting he also informed our son, that if he didn't want to have lessons with him, that it was his choice he they both needed to want to work together. And to our surprise, he agreed! We went on a journey over the first few weeks, establishing missed learning and problem areas. Which was both educating and illuminating for my wife and I, too. Some of the approaches taken we wouldn't have considered. Perhaps less orthodox or "by the book" however, we discovered that different techniques for prompting memory and/or reinforcing associations with words worked a treat. We are all now a bit more savvy to spelling with sign language, using other methods to break words down into syllables for easier spelling/pronunciation and even on occasion balloon "tennis" with us spelling the word to each return. Every lesson finished with something fun, subtly encouraging that process of learning to be fun rather than a chore. Our last report from school was amazing. Such an improvement, all of which coincides with the time we instructed these lessons. Nick - thanks mate. We haven't found a suitable replacement in Australia yet - but we will keep looking (unless you are keen to do Zoom lessons!)
We came to Nick after being recommended to us. Our son needed help to resit his GCSE English, our son has autism and difficulties expressing himself. It was so refreshing for my son to find someone that he could engage with and help him build his confidence up. He felt comfortable working with Nick and has learnt so much in such a short period, we will be forever grateful to Nick for helping him feel more confident.
My son has dyslexia and was struggling at school. T not only found his academic work challenging but also struggled with confidence and belief in himself. The run up to his GCSEs was proving particularly stressful. Then we found Nick. From the very beginning Nick was engaging, welcoming and fun. He saw T as an individual and identified strategies and techniques that suited T’s particular learning style. Nick helped T become more confident and believe that he could actually pass his GCSE English! NIck also helped T see value in his strengths that can easily get overlooked in the traditional education system. Although we haven’t got the results yet, T was able to go into the exams feeling confident and not panicking (as he had done previously in his mocks.) He always wanted to come to his sessions with Nick, and I enjoyed learning how I could support T better too. I have no hesitation in commending Nick, he’s a talented educator who thinks outside the box and puts the child/young person in the centre of everything he does. Thanks Nick for all you have done for us!!!
