Heard it was highly rated for Sunday Roast so a group of us decided to give it a go. Everyone really enjoyed their meal and most found some room to squeeze in dessert, which were also really good! Definitely worth the small wait for our food.
Myself and my partner had the pork belly which was delicious. The pork mash and veg were perfect. Pork melted in the mouth! The only thing that wasn’t as amazing was the pork scratching as it was a bit hard but we gave it to our dogs who were very appreciative. Service was fantastic, both at the bar and to the table, the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. They gave us water and treats for the dogs which were gratefully received. Our friends had sausage and mash and the pie and were also very happy with their meals. It was warm and cosy which was great to come into on such a cold frosty day, with a really cosy ambiance and they also had great music playing low in the background which we enjoyed. We stayed for a few hours after lunch as we were so comfortable and were happy to see cafe petron was available so enjoyed a nice shot as well as our ciders and ales. Love this pub it’s iconic and the heart of Moseley.
I doubt there's a more chilled out pub in Birmingham. This is a large old coaching house set in the middle of Moseley's cosmopolitan High street. Big, airy, large stained glass windows, nice open real fire with large tables, unobtrusive chilled music in the background and a cool chatty beer garden out back. I'm always astounded at how quiet the place is on a Saturday afternoon with just a few tables taken up but that makes it such a terrific place to come and unwind and enjoy unforced conversation with the people you love. I must mention the food - I've never been let down here and it's in my top 5 places to eat in all of Birmingham. Fresh ingredients cooked properly and consistently are the tune played here. The cod and chips always satisfies but the creamy and lightly spiced sausage and mash I recently had cooked by Chef Tarek was sensational. Highly recommended.
Overall, we thought this was a lovely place to have a Sunday roast for the family. We each ordered something different but felt the sharing platter was the most value. I had the beef roast but was a bit disappointed that I had only 2 small slices of beef, however the Yorkshire pudding was generously sized even if it were a bit overcooked. Our roast potatoes weren't crispy but they still tasted nice. The roast root veggies were done nicely and cabbage was a nice a touch. The gravy/jus could be a bit richer but thought it was just the right amount. The chicken was the best out of the lot, very well cooked and seasoned and generous. The pork belly was delicious and our second favourite. The steak and chips could do with some substantial greens other than a watercress garnish like peas or green beans or broccoli to make it a complete meal. The service was good and the staff very attentive. The atmosphere was also lovely to eat in. We generally enjoyed our lunch and would recommend it to others on a 7/10 score.
I came here over Christmas with friends and it’s a really nice old pub with a great atmosphere. It is dog friendly and the outdoors has heating too. The food is high quality and the cocktails are very reasonably priced.
