Visited for lunch. Haven't been since the refurb so was long overdue! The chilli with chips and rice was amazing! Great prices too!
Rating: 4 / 5
Portions and value are fantastic but the food lacked a little quality. The price paid was extremely good for value and the food and quantity was undervalued but the quality wasn't there to improve the rating. I had the mixed grill which was very large portion but the steak wasn't the best cut. I would definitely return as was great value for money.
Rating: 5 / 5
A great quality carvery on a Sunday, with the standouts being the stuffing balls, pigs in blankets and mashed potatoes. For three of us it came to just under £35 with soft drinks too. Decent service, good quality ingredients and a huge area upstairs that was done out really well. Views across the river to West Stockwith from certain tables. I would definitely return and would highly recommend.

Went here for birthday meal after long absence because of pandemic. Still as good as ever, and prices don't appear to have shot up like at most restaurants/pubs. Had combo meal of Chicken melt and Gammon steak, was delicious and portion size was very generous. Staff weren't the greatest, but the 5 orders all came out correctly and everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Will definitely go back again, and hopefully soon this time. 😎

We didn't stay here but had food in the pub twice whilst we stayed in glentham at a caravan site. Everything we had was gorgeous proper home cooked food, dog friendly, fast service, nothing is scrimped on everything we had we cleared the plate! We're only about an hour away from our home and will definately come back.

Please note we have not rated rooms as we did not book to stay. Family Sunday Lunch on Father's day. Great meal with fresh produce and a choice of meat. Other menu choices were also available and note all servings were quite large. Small selection of starters and deserts on this day but still more than enough for making a choice. Again all good quality and substantial portions. Service was excellent being both attentive and of a pleasant, helpful and friendly manner.

Well what can say. We stayed here on their steak night and it was absolutely amazing, every last bite. I would highly recommend it!

Wednesday lunch was at the Black Horse, Blyton. Their “Lunch Club” menu is incredibly good value at £9.45 for a main course, £11.45 for 2 courses, and £12.95 for 3 courses. There were four of us and we chose liver and onions served with a Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes and 4 vegetables, roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings, and ham and egg, served with chips and peas. Everyone enjoyed their lunch, and we had 4 empty plates to prove it! The staff are warm and friendly, and very efficient - orders are quickly taken and the food soon follows. Lunchtimes are very busy and it’s better to book if you can.

Rating: 4.6 (126) Price Level:
Lovely pub with a real 'local' vibe to it - super friendly atmostphere created by great hosts. Good selection of beers, lagers, wines and spirits. Good food served most days too... If you live in the area or are just passing - drop in and see for yourself.
Rating: 4 / 5
Great home made food and fair prices. Steak pie in particular is always great. Real hand pull ales are always in good condition. Bar maid never smiles unless you're in every day and she knows you; the only thing that lets the place down
Rating: 5 / 5
Popped in for a couple of pints just by chance as we like to explore pubs around the county. We were made to feel welcome and a very nice and cosy place it is too. We like to try out different ales and first we had a Shipyard ale at £4.30 and then a Wainwrights ale at only £3.50 which is good at todays prices. The ale was kept well and tasted great, there were a good selection of lagers and ciders too as well as the usual spirits. We will certainly be going back there frequently.

Shame, a nice cosy local where you could go for a chat and good beer, now has sport blaring from giant TVs in every room. Attentive barman but I didn't buy, I can watch sport at home if I want, and have a beer....

Fantastic Sunday roast in a nice setting. The staff were great, the food was excellent. The lamb and the beef were cooked to perfection, the gravy was delicious and service was really quick. Highly recommend

Excellent food, average prices , plenty on the plate, good choices and there is a separate menu for vegan/ gf etc. I had pea and Asparagus risotto with gf bread with herb oil....tasted like an up market fried bread, very moreish ! Serving staff were lovely, didn't hound you but had to seek them out for coffee order. Quite dark and atmospheric.

First time eating at the George on Tuesday 6th August. 4 of us. Food was hot, fresh and well presented. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Setting is nice. Lovely outdoor area too. The pavlova was exceptional. The 20%offer was good too. Definitely will eat there again soon.

Gainsborough Old Hall
Parnell St, Gainsborough DN21 2NB, UK | Historical Place P: 01427 677348
Rating: 4.7 (1374) Price Level:
This is a wonderfully evocative, characterful and interesting place to visit, tucked away within residential housing. There is plenty to see, with lots of nooks and crannies to explore, and the staff are really good There is a really nice cafe with plenty of choice, but the highlight for me was the Young Lady at the serving counter from Paisley whose dancing and conversation made us all smile . A great place to visit if you are in the area
Rating: 5 / 5
Great place to visit if in the area. Stunning architecture, the inside and outside are worth viewing. Great views from the tower. Parking is nearby, shop and cafe on site.

What a gem of a place! We are EH members but didn't know about this place for some reason and we are only around an hour's drive away. We visited at the weekend and we're blown away by it's beauty - the history this place holds is phenomenal and the detail in what they have managed to preserve is astonishing. If you don't walk around upstairs and feel drunk then you've not done it right! The kitchen is fascinating and you get a real feeling for how things would have been run back then. We booked in advance although didn't need to as it was quiet when we arrived. The cafe is lovely, we enjoyed a chai latte and bought some lovely books for.our boys from the second hand book shop. We will be taking our son back who is a massive history lover - a visit highly recommended!!
Rating: 5 / 5
This place is absolutely amazing, and incredible survival of a Tudor building. Considering how many times it has been repurposed over the last few hundred years, English Heritage have done an amazing job in preservation and presentation of it's long and varied history. If you have ever wanted to eat fresh mulberries straight off the trees then then this is the place to come! Also an excellent coffee shop!

My family and I visited the hall for the first time today, and it won't be our last! What a lovely place! The hall has been looked after and restored brilliantly. You can really get a feeling for the age of the building by looking at the old timbers and walking through the halls with their bowing floors! It felt like you were in a fun house in parts because it looked level, but you could feel yourself leaning to the side. The kids thought it was great fun! The open rooftop was a massive bonus. The weather was perfect for it and we could see the village of Gainsborough. It was brilliant. I'd recommend taking a coat to wear as it was freezing in some parts of the building. The lady at the till was lovely and very chatty. She made us feel welcome the moment we walked in

Visited due to the fire plaques on the carpark wall. Very active pub within the community dogs welcome and a good ale to be had well worth a visit
Rating: 5 / 5
Very dog friendly. Great atmosphere.
Rating: 4 / 5
Six of us went here for a meal and a few drinks. We did book the table because they only have limited space here. Black pudding and fish bites were ordered for starters and these were rapidly demolished by our group. Various selection of main meals were all accompanied by dishes of vegetables, gravy, bread and condiments. Very large portions and very tasty food. Only slight criticism would be the chips were a bit overdone and no crackling on the pork belly. Overall though, we enjoyed our food and drink and would recommend a visit here.

Great pub, great staff
Rating: 4 / 5
The Elm Cottage is a nice traditional community pub. There is a good selection of beers, lagers, and cider, including a cask conditioned real ale. The cask ale was in excellent condition when we called in. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. There is an outside seating area at the front and behind the pub. There is also a pool table and dart board in a lodge behind the pub.

Had a lovely family meal here on Sunday evening. All the staff were attentive, our waitress Charlotte was very friendly and made our visit very enjoyable. The food was excellent, well prepared and presented. It was nice to have a relaxing meal, with time in between each course to rest and have a chat. Would definitely recommend.
Rating: 5 / 5
First visit for a long time. To be honest, I only went as I got a taste card which we could use in there. The waitress who served us was lovely. Very friendly and helpful with menu descriptions. The restaurant inside is a very nice space. I had spaghetti bolognese and not a lot of meat on top of a good pile of spaghetti. It wasn't hot, unfortunately, just warm. The pepperoni pizza was hot and a good size. We shared a large garlic bread which was good. The puddings were £8 which I feel is too expensive for a pudding. We did have one as with taste card it made them £4 each, which is a better price and they were tasty.

Love coming to eat here. The food is always tasty and amazing. Probably one of the best Indian curries I’ve had and is now my regular! Also the staff are so kind and helpful. Highly recommend !

Just had another fabulous meal. Thank you
Rating: 5 / 5
Haven't had a single bad experience here, we've eaten in on a couple of occasions and also had take away, each time we've not been disappointed. My only issue is ~ I can't go as often as I'd like.
Rating: 5 / 5
This is by far one of the best curry houses for miles and miles around. As a family, we have spent many years going to curries and have eaten Indian food all over the world. The meal at Elach is by far our favourite and it never fails to blow us away. Luckily, we only live about 30 minutes away, so it’s now become a regular trip! Not only is the food amazing, but the service is incredible and the staff are very friendly. I have a nut allergy, but the staff are always very careful and reassuring with my meal every time. We recently visited for both my birthday and my parents’ anniversary, which falls on the same day. We visited with my grandparents, who are also regulars. The staff went above and beyond to celebrate the occasion, which was wonderful. 100000000% wholeheartedly recommend this Indian!

This is our go to Indian takeaway in Gainsborough. We get lamb tikka masala which is always so tender and delicious. Food always tastes fresh, which is an issue when ordering from others in the area.

Canute
12-14 Silver St, Gainsborough DN21 2DP, UK | Pub P: 01427 678715
Rating: 4.1 (518) Price Level:
Clean and tidy pub with immaculate toilets. Staff very friendly and helpful and we were able to take our dog inside, which is a much appreciated concession compared to other chain pubs. The prices were reasonable. My only gripe would be that they only had one cask beer and it was a bit warm, so I'm not sure what their cellar temp is like. My wife's lager was great, she said.
Rating: 5 / 5
We went in today as a family to celebrate the passing of a loved one and were well looked after by the staff.

This was a fantastic pub to go drinking at, with a vibrate design! This is contributed to by the slick layout and flashy counter, where I was served by friendly staff. I had a cheap pint of Carlsberg, sitting comfortably at a clean table!
