I was really impressed with the amount of definition the green keepers were able to get into the fairways for the time of year. The course looked great. I had called the day before to enquire about getting a round and the Pro was very help and also honest enough to inform me that the greens had been freshly sanded that week so I should consider coming before making the trip. Undeterred I’m glad I did go as it was a real gem. Some really good looking holes and a challenging course. A lot of the tee boxes were temps but it still played really long especially with the wind up. I would certainly go back to play when the greens are at the best too, a really lovely club and course.

Cranham Golf Course

St. Marys Ln, Upminster RM14 3NU, UK | Golf Course
P: 01708 221177

Rating: 4.5 (426) Price Level:

Love this course. Superb condition, hazards well placed, challenging greens with good speed, very well priced. A short course that allows you to score (I mentally add 10 to my score to compare it to a “full” course, i.e 5800-6200 yards) but probably one of the best in the south Essex area. I would always choose Cranham for my rounds, with Epping and Toot Hill as other contenders. Wanstead is overpriced, Hainault is too busy and in too bad condition, Theydon Bois rarely in good condition, Woolston Manor great fun but busy. 18th signature hole is a highlight, even if they do dye the water! If there was a negative, it would be the open and tight nature of the holes means you’re often at risk from wayward shots (yours or theirs!). Overall 5/5 - hidden gem that may be too short for the longer hitters but provides great fun for the typical weekend hacker.

I played at Cranham Golf Course for the first time this week and I was very impressed. This is a beautifully designed course offering plenty of challenges in the way of water hazards, fairway and greenside bunkers, dog legs and two-tiered greens. You cannot fault the course conditions. The tee boxes are in great condition. The fairways were well cut and the rough is fairly light, with barely any deep rough. The greens are fast and beautifully kept. On the final hole you are met with a challenging but beautiful par 3 with an island green. The course offers 7 par 3s, 9 par 4s, and 2 par 5s. The course would be good for high handicappers, but also enjoyable for all levels. I will definitely be back for more golf at Cranham ⛳

Best kept communal course I know of. Very good for beginners but with enough challenge for low handicappers, and very cheap in comparison. The 18th island hole is a great way to finish it off.

Fantastic course, very well kept, greens were fast and true. Its quite open and not very long so will favour the beginners and high handicappers. Its well worth the green fee, i will return and i recommend you visit for a pleasant round.

Not the most challenging course out there, but exceptionally well maintained and great drainage - an excellent winter course and great for high handicappers looking for some practice.

Course was in really good condition bearing in mind the amount of rain we've had recently. Credit to the green keepers! 👍 Played yesterday (040924) in the Garesfield Open. The course was in great condition and the greens were immaculate. There wasn't a blemish on them! Special mention to Margaret who works in the bar and was lovely! She'll be a miss when she leaves!

I just played here as an American visiting, and had a great time on this course. It has beautiful views and the course was in excellent condition. The pro shop was very hospitable as I needed to rent clubs, and everyone I encountered was very friendly. The biggest difference between this course and US courses are the lack of carts, there were a few people in carts but most people were walking with a trolley. This course was easy to get to by train as it was a 5 minute walk from an Underground station. I would definitely play this course again and recommend it to anyone visiting.

Great experiences at Sudbury. Played twice and enjoyed the courses. Fairway condition was outstanding but you could loose your ball easily as there were many fallen leaves on the fairway, which are in white tone. Green fee is very reasonable(25pounds during weekdays) but rental club(I have got sim2 driver, spoon, utilities and irons) is bit expensive (40pound per round). Better you bring your own club if you intend to play more than once. Will definitely visit here again. 👍

Wow. Haven’t played many courses in the UK like this. Almost every hole could be their signature hole. Very undulating, various holes with plenty to think about in a stunning location with views over London. Lots of work ongoing but shows they invest and take the future of the club seriously. Worth the green fees!

Rating: 4 / 5

Lots of work being undertaken at the moment. An old hole has been found amongst the trees cut down. A site for a new clubhouse has been found and views to the city of London are beautiful. The foresight of the current owner seems to align perfectly with the original course architect. Large greens, wide fairways, a great test of golf. Don't let the par 69 fool you. This course can bite back as quick as look at you. Worth a try now, when it's completed, you won't be able to book a time or join as it will be full.

A very good test of Golf and a course that has gone through significant redevelopment in the last few years. There were some truly fantastic par 3s some very challenging par 4s and a couple of interesting par 5s as well. Due to a lot of the felling of trees, the aesthetic of the course will perhaps take another 2 to 3 years to really mature. I think this could be an unbelievable course when they finish the work and the changes look more natural. I do think the clubhouse needs updating, but I believe there are plans to do that as well Would highly recommend playing here as it is a very good test of Golf

Always a top course and now moving towards greatness. A marvellous test of golf that is now showing some class. Tees all good most fairways very good and all greens superb and very challenging. Bunkers are proper top course quality, properly raked to give you a chance. Give it a bit more time to mature and it’ll be on a great number of golfers wish list. Btw great views of London too.

Reviewing Callum the pro here — brilliant patient teacher who knows how to focus on key things for each player. I can only manage the occasional lesson currently and he’s so quick to isolate what’s most important. Worth a visit in his own right and the course is great too.

The course is in fantastic condition year round and deals with wet weather better than any other local course that I have played. Addington Palace is the first club I have been a member at. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming and the social side of golf has been great. Would recommend the Saturday morning roll-ups to get involved.

A warm welcoming club to new members and visitors. Having only joined this summer, the members and management have gone above and beyond to ensure it was easy to settle in. The course has been consistently improved with regular course maintenance and improvements and continues to remain in great condition compared with many local courses.

Upon venturing to Addington Palace Golf purely for a look around, I was approached by the Men’s Captain who introduced himself and asked if I needed any help with anything. He immediately came across as welcoming and warming, even offering to play a round of golf with myself to see if I liked the course! The course is magnificent and one of the most challenging, yet interesting I have played. I joined pretty much the next day as a Full Member.

I became an academy member six months ago, and the experience has been fantastic from the start. The course is both challenging and enjoyable, offering a great balance for golfers of all levels. The grounds team does an exceptional job keeping the course in pristine condition, and even after heavy rain, it’s never muddy. The Ladies section is well-established, and they are incredibly welcoming and supportive. The academy is a great way to get started with golf.

Great course, not too long and not too narrow, but still a decent challenge, especially if you don't get your drive away or if you don't know your yardages with your irons. Greens in decent shape given that we played towards the end of October after a week of rain. Good little hut serving bacon/sausage baps and hot/cold drinks. Great views of the ever growing London skyline from the holes at the highest point of the course (and the club house). Also saw a giant mushroom! 😀

Really lovely course, well kept. Would of given 5 stars if bunkers were proper sand. Most are dirt. Very challenging course, narrow fairways. Greens are perfect. They spray them to make them look extra green. Very hilly course so you have to be fit if walking! Buggies available. Good choice of food extensive menu. Staff all round are friendly and helpful. Definitely be playing here again.

A golf course with a tale of two halves - The first half is a short but tight track with no real stand out holes apart from maybe the 2nd which has a tight and blind tee shot. From home 9 onwards the track really comes into it's own. The fairways and greens were in great condition with only a few dry patches around some areas. I played during a twighlight time and the course was relatively quiet. Would play again.

Royal Portrush provides you the very best of Links golf. There is no grand entrance to the course (like County Down or Augusta) and the view of the clubhouse and adjacency to the road makes you wonder a bit. But the course was in impeccable conditions and very tough. The views were absolutely spectacular (comparable to Pebble Beach). John at the range and Chris (our caddie) were very friendly and helpful. The pics and trophies in the clubhouse are worth spending some time browsing. The clubhouse facilities could be improved for a top 5 course in the world.

Stunning course and experience. The staff was wonderful from start to finish. Even though this was my 6th round abroad it was my first on a course actively hosting The Open. I found the course to be a fair but very demanding test. Finding the fairway was way easier than keeping the ball on the green! It is definitely a second shot course in terms of its demands. You will not regret adding Royal Portrush to your golf trip list!
