“Thank you, thank you, thank you. We visited this place for the first time today. It was good to see Derbyshire oatcakes on the menu which proved to be very tasty. The toasty sandwich was also good and well presented. The prices were reasonable and the service excellent especially as after leaving I discovered that my car had a flat tyre I think some of the pot holes on the country roads had finally claimed a victim lol so imagine my absolute joy that the cafe had a tyre pump which they readily leant me so I could pump in enough air to get back to my holiday accommodation. It’s things like that which make all the difference - friendly and helpful people- I can’t thank you enough I owe you a pint or something. Will definitely be in again next time I’m in Longnor this year. Alan.”

Dandelion - Speciality Coffee
Dandelion, 5, Grove Parade, Buxton SK17 6AJ, UK
Phone: 01298 750108
“Fantastic, independent coffee house with a great selection of coffees and foods. I visit most weeks and thoroughly enjoy Dandelion's uniquely passionate take on brewing different coffees. I'm learning about how various beans, climate, and countries of origin matters, and as I take my coffee black, there are many aspects to what flavours win out in the end and Roy is generous in sharing his knowledge in this field. The owners' passion for coffee totally permeates this place. The coffee house is situated in the town centre, opposite the crescent in Buxton, and close to the Spring Gardens shopping street, so there's always a wide variety of different customers visiting here, and an impressive number of regular patrons. The atmosphere is contemplative, so I can get work done or reading, and I often find myself enjoying conversations with other guests or, indeed, the owners themselves. Dandelion is certainly different to other cafés, and I find their emphasis on the coffee itself, what sets it apart, and far above, most other places I visit. Highly recommended!”

“Popped in for a snack/brunch both of us had sausage cobs and tea, both hit the spot beautifully. Not much room to eat in but we were lucky. While we were eating there was a steady stream of mostly locals and we saw a diverse selection of things chosen. I feel its always a good sign when the locals clearly go in regularly. Large choice of delicious looking food freshly cooked. Shame we don't live nearer or id be a regular too.”

“We visited on a Sunday afternoon while visiting the area. We received a very warm welcome and had a sense that the staff genuinely cared about our experience. There was a lovely ambience. The menu options were perfect. The food was of great quality and prices about right. Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling so great so I didn’t eat all of my lovely hearty soup (of which there was a very generous amount) but it was by no means a reflection on the food. On any other day I’d have most definitely finished the lot off!”

“Very quick review... If you go to any cafe around Chesterfield this is absolutely a must not miss. The food is really beyond even my expectations and the coleslaw ♥️♥️♥️. For an old jaded restaurant critic this was just wonderful. Really. So, check out the Old Smithy, it's utterly exquisite on all fronts (decor, food, and service). My highest award: FIVE NOMS 🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂”

Quackers Café
Thornbridge Hall, Ashford in the Water, Bakewell DE45 1NZ, UK
Phone: 01629 640617
“Casual. Nice and unpretentious cafe on the grounds of Thornbridge. The food is locally sourced (some from the estate itself) and nicely prepared. The name is derived from the fountain outside which is filled with rubber ducks for the children to enjoy. You can also get some of the famous Thornbridge Brewery products. We had scones and coffee and it was a delight. I think my favorite thing was the large number of very cute children running around in the fountain pool.”
