“Gorgeous food and a great selection of real ales and ciders. I'm really fussy when it comes to eating out and I think that may possibly have been the nicest pub lunch I've ever had! Perfectly cooked and seasoned chips; a beef and ale pie that was freshly cooked and full of tender meat (not a piece of fat or gristle to be found!) and rich gravy with perfect short crust pastry; rich and meaty extra gravy, and a selection of tasty vegetables. Yum! Would've tried the puddings but I filled up completely on just the main - perfect portion size! Friendly staff and good character. Toilets were clean and pleasant and even had emergency stash in the ladies. Would recommend and will bear in mind if we're passing again.”

The Red Lion pub is a very local village pub offering locally and famous made cider’s with several choice and many years of awards. Their restaurant is also very busy on many of the days but do book up if your thinking to eat there as tables are limited and Sundays is only half day food. Don’t forget closed Monday and Tuesday’s Call to book a table is best idea if you plan to eat here especially if camping or staying locally. The Red Lion is also very popular with the local of the village and always pleasant to have a conversation to catch up with walks and the area. Well recommend and is now a key place in my to “return again”

What a find! A great village pub serving ‘real’ cider & real ale. Great homemade food. We had the fish and chips, and the pie and veg both were great. The service was superb. Definitely pay this place a visit if in the area.

I couldn’t recommend the red lion enough. Start with the warm and friendly welcome, followed by the local options behind the bar and enthusiastic bar staff, next the unwavering love for the children and dogs and last but most importantly the exquisite home cooked food. Particularly suggest the curry. I’ve never felt so happy to spend my money somewhere.

Very friendly, brilliantly run freehouse pub. Popular with locals and very welcoming to those who aren't. Excellent traditional pub food. We had one of their renowned pies (beef & ale) which was delicious and fish (enormous) & proper homemade chips. Homemade puds. Would definitely recommend and worth a visit (or two!) if you're staying in the area and not sure where to go to eat and/or drink.

“The food was excellent, (an amazing range of options for such a small operation) and prepared with real care. Excellent provision for gluten-free (cross-contamination caution). Staff and service was warm and accommodating. A wall display of superb photographs shows the stunning local scenery at its best (and are for sale). We were able to reserve tables. If we lived nearer we'd be regulars.”

“Lovely cafe, great view and wonderful food will happily go again. It was father's day so was a busier day but it has a good atmosphere. These good amount of parking with an over spill area. Will be going back on a sunnier day for sure. Nice little wonder around the windmill just outside.”

“Lovely little cafe. I like that you have to wonder through the park to find this place. The cafe building itself is quite small but there is plenty of outdoor seating, most of which is undercover either under a gazebo or an umbrella. We only had coffee's and a scone but both were great and the service was fast. The staff are very welcoming and dogs are welcome too. A hidden gem.”

“Lovely cafe, visited whilst in the area for my Hen party. Had booked a table for 6, order at the counter and food and drinks came very quickly. Recommend the mango and passion fruit pancakes. Food presented very well and I think the prices are fair.”

“Absolutely loved bringing my step daughter here we had so much fun! We both picked out an ornament to paint and had the most beautiful cake and tea! Would highly recommend. The only thing I would say is it's super quiet and everyone who was in there with us said the same thing, it needs a radio or something for a little background noise as it feels slightly awkward. Other than that it's fantastic and hope to be back soon!!!”

“Nice small bakery/deli close to the centre of Ashbourne. We enjoyed the baked goods so much that we went twice! The first time we had a cappuccino cake and a rum truffle. The second time we had a rocky road and viennese whirl. The shop has a nice selection of products and the service was good the both times we went. We are looking forward to going again when we are next in Ashbourne.”
