“Gorgeous food and a great selection of real ales and ciders. I'm really fussy when it comes to eating out and I think that may possibly have been the nicest pub lunch I've ever had! Perfectly cooked and seasoned chips; a beef and ale pie that was freshly cooked and full of tender meat (not a piece of fat or gristle to be found!) and rich gravy with perfect short crust pastry; rich and meaty extra gravy, and a selection of tasty vegetables. Yum! Would've tried the puddings but I filled up completely on just the main - perfect portion size! Friendly staff and good character. Toilets were clean and pleasant and even had emergency stash in the ladies. Would recommend and will bear in mind if we're passing again.”

I couldn’t recommend the red lion enough. Start with the warm and friendly welcome, followed by the local options behind the bar and enthusiastic bar staff, next the unwavering love for the children and dogs and last but most importantly the exquisite home cooked food. Particularly suggest the curry. I’ve never felt so happy to spend my money somewhere.

The Red Lion pub is a very local village pub offering locally and famous made cider’s with several choice and many years of awards. Their restaurant is also very busy on many of the days but do book up if your thinking to eat there as tables are limited and Sundays is only half day food. Don’t forget closed Monday and Tuesday’s Call to book a table is best idea if you plan to eat here especially if camping or staying locally. The Red Lion is also very popular with the local of the village and always pleasant to have a conversation to catch up with walks and the area. Well recommend and is now a key place in my to “return again”

What a find! A great village pub serving ‘real’ cider & real ale. Great homemade food. We had the fish and chips, and the pie and veg both were great. The service was superb. Definitely pay this place a visit if in the area.

Very friendly, brilliantly run freehouse pub. Popular with locals and very welcoming to those who aren't. Excellent traditional pub food. We had one of their renowned pies (beef & ale) which was delicious and fish (enormous) & proper homemade chips. Homemade puds. Would definitely recommend and worth a visit (or two!) if you're staying in the area and not sure where to go to eat and/or drink.

“I’m an independent carer and care for a lady with dementia. On this day my lady wouldn’t come out of the car, I popped in and asked if they offered take away - without hesitation the lady was very accommodating and told me what she would be able to do for me. They were very quick! Very friendly! I’ll definitely be back here to try some warmer meals. Special menu had lots of offer and the food I was seeing be served looked delicious! I look forward to returning. Inside, the cafe had a very cosy feeling. What a lovely place to stumble across! They even gave us some wooden trays to take with us to eat on and offered to help me to the car! The baguettes and salad we had tasted so fresh and was very lovely! Thank you very much. I can’t recommend this place enough!”

“Very nice cafe , friendly staff, fast service even at lunchtime. Coffee and burger was really tasty , I'd recommend this place. The cakes looked great but the burger and fries was a really good portion so I wouldn't have been able to fit it in. I'll definitely be back”

“we had a spontaneous trip to Ashbourne and this cafe caught our attention straight away. And so good we came there! I loved the decor, and menu offers so much more than a typical cafe. We had butternut squash on toast (looked and tasted great) , my partner had pancakes with bacon, breaded chicken with maple syrup.. sooo delicious! and coffee - that's another big STAR for amazing ones. I had a beetroot latte (rarely on the menu at most cafes) - it was perfect. We already planning to come back to Ashbourne in the summer”

“What a gem of a coffee shop! This little family owned spot is an absolute delight. The coffee beans are top-notch, rich and full of flavor, and thier latte syrups add the perfect touch of sweetness without being overpowering. The panini was perfectly toasted and the cake OH MY SO DELICIOUS. The service was warm and friendly, making us feel right at home. The shop itself was spotless and had such a welcoming atmosphere. It's clear that a lot of love and care goes into every detail. If you're looking for a cozy place with amazing coffee and food, this is it! Highly recommend 🍰☕️🌟🌟”

“Went for lunch. The cafe was busy but managed to get a table for 3 of us. Lovely views infront of the glass floor to ceiling windows of the surrounding area. Prices are quite high, however this outweighed by the quality and selection of the food. I had quiche of the day which came with a plate full off salad and pasta with a door wedge size of quiche. Well worth the money! Good selection of drinks available with a promot service. The selection of cakes are definitely tempting as well. Will definitely pay another visit l.”

“Treated my husband to a birthday lunch here today. We were greeted by a lovely member of staff who directed us to the cafe upstairs. The seating area is bigger than expected, with beautiful works of art all around. The menu is great. My husband had the avocado on toast with poached eggs and he added on bacon - he really enjoyed it. I had probably the best salad I've ever eaten! It had figs, goats cheese, crushed hazelnuts, quinoa, sweet drop peppers, a delicious dressing and I paid a little extra for Serrano ham too - I'd definitely recommend it. The lady serving us was polite and non intrusive; giving us plenty of time to decide what we'd like to order. We will most certainly be back again and I can see this being somewhere we visit regularly now we know about it...a hidden gem!”

“Excellent service and attractive room. Menu choices are limited but suitable for a light lunch. Prices are quite high and I would expect to order at the table for this cost. It's certainly different and special compared to other lunchtime restaurants in the area. Attractive building, boutique shops and garden.”

“A smashing place for a lovely brunch. Visited on a lovely Sunday afternoon and enjoyed sitting outside. Great views whilst you enjoy a drink or something to eat. Plenty of space inside and on the outdoor terrace. The staff here were excellent, super helpful and always on it. The food was freshly prepared and very good. We loved the moto "We don't do fast food, we do fresh food as fast as we can"!! Would definitely recommend.”
