Absolutely lovely pub/restaurant out in the country. Warm and very inviting, plenty of parking a nice garden out the back, but too cold to sit outside. The food was to die for. The Waggoners probably have more to offer than what we needed. Definitely will be going again. But next time, I will take Digswell Hill because Ayot St Peter road is a single track and not many places to pass. Highly recommend. Give them a go.

A rustic but stylish french bistro in a 400 year old period (pub) building. It is set in a quiet corner surrounded by forest & field walkways through (& around) Brocket Hall. Ideal as a last stop for dog walkers & hikers. Their authentic french cuisine is beautifully presented & their Sunday roasts are to die for!! You need to book ahead especially at the weekend & on sunny days as a local favourite. Mid Priced & Well recommended!!

Charming French Restaurant A wonderful local French restaurant in a peaceful setting next to the golf courses—perfect for a relaxing meal with family. The ambiance is serene, making it an ideal spot to enjoy quality French cuisine. I highly recommend the French Onion Soup and the fish—both were absolutely delicious! The flavors are authentic, and the food is beautifully prepared. If you’re looking for a great dining experience in a quiet and scenic location, this is definitely a place to visit. We popped to The Waggoners for a cheeky pint in the sunshine and were so delighted with how nice of an experience it was. The staff was welcoming, and we even got a tour of all the dinning rooms with tables of all sizes. We sat outside in the sunshine, had beautiful pints of Guinness and hot nuts. The menu seemed full of fabulous options, and we ordered the frog legs in butter and garlic. It was stunning. And it was fun. Loved my visit and will definitely come back.

First time trying Cotes today. Came down to take my daughter who is at uni out for her birthday. Had the best experience. The restaurant is lovely inside. You feel like you are somewhere really special. We had a lovely table by the window in the sunshine. The food was delicious. I had an amazing fish parmentier, my daughter had chicken and my son had steak. The desserts were wonderful. Warm oozing chocolate fondant, a choux pastry with pistachio and cherry compote and my daughter, who is the biggest macaron lover, had a fantastic macaron dessert. I was driving and so had an elderflower and apricot drink which I loved. We were greeted on arrival by a lovely friendly chap and our waiter, Conor, was attentive and friendly. They even sent my daughters dessert out with a birthday candle and Happy Birthday written in caramel on the plate. A fantastic experience and when visiting our daughter at uni again we will definitely be back. Thanks to the team for making our visit so special.

Service and ambience were the two things that stood out to me here. Erika, the waitress, was always attentive and made sure I had an enjoyable dining experience. The seasonal decor for Christmas was just enough and provided a great feel for the place. The price to quality ratio for the food was below average, in my opinion. The crab maison appetizer would have been better with more capers and less avocadoes. The steak frites were alright, nothing to rave about but executed well. All in all a decent place if you're specifically craving French cuisine in the WGC area!

This is the go to place for us, whether it’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Food is always cooked perfectly and presented to a high standard using only fresh and high quality ingredients. Great selection of coffees, wines and cocktails too. The staff are super welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable, always creating a lovely atmosphere in which to enjoy a meal or special occasion. Lovely pub, visit quite frequently and have eaten a few times in the bar area and always really enjoyed the food. Went today for a meal for my mums birthday and sat in the dining area. Good, efficient service from a lovely, young waitress. Plenty of choice on the menu to suit all palates. Food was hot on arrival and all meals were good quality and very tasty. We had the Venison Pie, Pizza and Fish & Chips - All good portion sizes and cooked well. Great local pub! 👍🏻

Love this place, absolutely superb roasts, super dog friendly (appreciative spaniel for proof). Great little spot with plenty of outdoor seating to sit with pooch in the shade (dogs welcome inside too). Staff are lovely and greet the dogs very nicely. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Great boozer, we came here for food and it did not disappoint. All round great food, in particular our waitress Alice was amazing, truly making our experience. Will be returning no doubt.

Had a lovely Sunday roast at the Red Lion, great variety on the menu and even more on the specials. We went for the chateaubriand which was just delicious, followed by a trio of desserts as who doesn’t like a little bit of everything. Will definitely return for more Sunday treats, would highly recommend as one of the nicest Sunday lunches in Hertfordshire.

First time we’ve been on this pub restaurant and it did not fail. Initially was a bit reluctant to come but was happy that it turned out to be a good discovery. Menu is really good, a lot of parking, tables are in good space which provides good personal space for the customers. Will definitely come back.

The food was great with perfect portions. The service was excellent and super friendly. A traditional friendly country pub atmosphere. We will come and I have already booked for Mother’s Day. I can’t wait to come back!!!

I went here with my boyfriend as we were in the local area for the weekend. The food was absolutely amazing! It was beautifully presented, service was the perfect amount of time waiting, we were both stuffed afterwards. Even though the food was to a high restaurant style quality we were pleasantly surprised at the bill at the end. If we lived closer we would definitely return! (Live 4 hours away!) This restaurant has to be one of the greatest places I've been to in the UK in a while, and with a good price, friendly and talkative staff, and also a varied menu. I really liked the variety of food here. The dumplings were full of flavour, and fresh, the sweet and sour chicken was amazing, the sauce was flavourful, and the chicken was tender. Along with this, the spring rolls were unique , and the crispy aromatic duck was by far the best bit of the meal, it tastes just as if it was straight from Malaysia, and it has been made perfectly. The restaurant was clean and well presented, and you could see the staff cooking. All of the facilities were in good order. I really recommend this restaurant to people interested in this style of food, as I doubt you will regret eating here!

Crispy squid and prawn starters were very good, mains weren't great. Beef ho fun was very greasy, Malaysian chilli prawns were very bland, garlic prawns were good but got very sickly after a couple. Menu is varied which was good

Really nice Asian find in the north of Welwyn Garden City. Food was so tasty and all looked very authentic. It is a really good price too! We had the dumplings as a starter, then we tried the Laksa and the Mee Goreng. Overall I really recommend it!

Great atmosphere, lots of arts and crafts for the kids to do, food exceptional and a fast friendly service. Will be back!

Eaten a few times here now - always been fantastic, not only the food - the staff too! Highly recommend the ‘cowboy smashed burger’ 10/10 would recommend. 4 stars for the atmosphere - the lighting is to dull… but that’s down to personal preference!

I have not visited The Wellington in a while so was delighted when we visited. The welcome was exceptional, warm and friendly. The service was delightful, the food delicious as was the wine and all of the other drinks we consumed and as always the environment was just perfect! Thank you Welly for a great evening with my friends and I cannot wait to visit again!😊

Always a pleasure. It’s been over 10 years since we last came as we’ve moved further away. It didn’t disappoint, I’m so glad we booked. The food and service were great. The kid’s portions are great. Overall it was a lovely meal in great surroundings.

Five of us had a Sunday lunch here. Summary: Beer (own bitter) - good Lamb roast dinner - excellent in all respects except, unfortunately, the lamb; this was chewy, lacked much taste and looked like it had been hanging about a bit. Everything else was really plentiful and tasty, with great red cabbage and a delicious gravy. Apple and rhubarb crumble (I think) - very tasty, though no big chunks of rhubarb. Needed the extra cream, or another scoop of ice cream. Bottle of Primitivo - very pleasant. Service - good! Plenty of helpers in attendance, knowledgeable bar staff, cheerful and polite in all respects. Price: very reasonable indeed, we thought. Surroundings: very comfortable and well restored old inn, garden stretches back to the river (which isn't as attractive here!); parking is not charged on a Sunday.

What else can I say, my favourite pub in Welwyn! Amazing atmosphere, DJ on a Friday and Saturday night, decent prices for alcohol, food is decent, shows a lot of sport, if you book in advance you’ll be able to grab a table even for big events such as finals and boxing. You’ll have a great night here for sure!

This is a great place to grab a delicious burger and chips. They're some of the best I've had! The drinks were nice too and the ambiance is great, would come back again

We came to visit the two Willows and Ellie, Leah and Ronnie looked after us for a long awaited bottomless brunch, we had a the best time. Great service. Food and cocktails galore. We shall be back.

Had the 12£ for 3 small plates which is great value, spent the same amount on 2 pints which is pretty standard in today's economy. Cozy and rustic with friendly staff. Pretty up standard pub food. Wish we could've tried the mains but we were just on our way rambling through the fields. Will come back for a main one day

I recently had the pleasure of hosting a Christmas wreath-making workshop at this wonderful pub, and I cannot speak highly enough of the experience. From start to finish, the staff went above and beyond to help make the event a success, especially Meghan and Louise. Their support in organizing everything was truly invaluable, and it made the entire process so much smoother and more enjoyable. The atmosphere was absolutely perfect. The roaring fire and festive Christmas music created the most magical, cosy setting! It was ideal for a creative and social gathering. The pub itself exudes charm, with its traditional English character and welcoming vibe. It was clear that this pub is more than just a place for a drink. It’s a hub for the community, where everyone feels welcome. I’m so grateful for their hospitality and hard work in helping bring this event to life. I’d highly recommend it to anyone, whether you’re looking for a cosy spot to relax or a venue for a special event, it’s truly a gem. Thank you The Crooked Chimney for everything!
