“We held a small family party (low key) at Brickendon Grange. It is a lovely building in well kept grounds. The staff were very efficient and attentive. They decorated the table for us beautifully and clearly had spent some time doing this. We were in the Oak Room, which was very suitable for 19 of us to be seated comfortably. The food was lovely (vegetarians catered for). Cannot fault it .”

“Had a fantastic time playing the High Course. The fairways and greens were in decent condition and the pace of play was smooth. Big thanks to Ben who went above and beyond - my last minute booking was handled efficiently and he also gave me a tour of the beautiful clubhouse. Looking forward to coming back to play the West Course next time.”

“Considering there are no bunkers this course continues to play tough. Miss the fairway and your playing out sideways or your lost in the bracken and ferns which are plentiful. Lovely club house and big car park. Careful as you cross the B roads that thread through the course as they are busy.”

“We had a brilliant experience and it was the best decision to hold our daughter’s wedding reception at Whitehills. Amanda and the team were amazing, attentive, organised & made the day completely stress free for us all. The room, the setting, service, planning were all perfect and very reasonably priced. The DJ they recommend (Wayn)was the best, he played exactly what we asked & the dance floor was full from start to finish. Highly recommend it for any function. Bob and Gael”

“The Hertfordshire is a course set around a converted country estate and for which from speaking to members some course changes are in the plans. It has a driving range and practice putting area with some nice slopes across the putting green to test your green reading. It is reasonably well maintained with some very pleasant looking holes playing across water. The biggest challenge however is its tests of driving accuracy being cut amongst some very well established tree lines giving what appears to be from the tee, some very tight angles. When i played it, it was in good condition even though i understand that the club has recently lost its head green keeper. The fairways had good coverage and the greens were consistent which as a weekend golfer is all I'm really after. There doesn't appear to be much in the way of fairway sprinklers though as when i played it was drying out as can be seen in the pictures. It does look a bit tatty around some of the tees as there were no tee or rubbish bins meaning that there were a lot of broken tees lying around. Also there were no ball washers which to my mind shows a more corporate rather than golfer friendly mindset. However this didn't affect the playability of the course and some of my balls enjoyed a good soaking in the water hazards anyway. Whilst I really liked the aesthetics of the course it is quite challenging hence the slope rating with very tight drives and punishing rough. It's a course I'd very happily play again which is ultimately all that matters.”

“A really lovely course. A very warm welcome on arrival and a detailed explanation of the course before we set out. Given the heavy rain the last few days and the fact most courses in the area were shut I was amazed at the quality of the course. The greens were brilliant and fairways too. It can feel like a quite compact course at times, some of the tee boxes are very close to the greens which require accurate approach shots as they are refreshingly petit. A thoroughly great course definitely worth seeking out if you are within an hour or so.”

“Possibly one of the nicest courses in Hertfordshire for a society visit. We played here yesterday as part of a society, with the golf only option. Whilst the clubhouse might be slightly dated, the practice facilities and the course however, were really good. The practice green at the front of the clubhouse was in very good condition and was a solid reflection of the actual greens on the course. There was enough slope and length across the green to make challenging putts, with the putting green itself was sufficiently large to enable a number of players to practise without crossover. The chipping area is a little way from the clubhouse with a couple of practice nets close by and again provided a good area for practise prior to the round with a bunker available for those wishing to play in the sand. The driving range at the club caters for both mats and turf interaction which is not something that I have seen before, in a clubs that welcomes society guests. The course is a really nice tree-lined parkland course with enough shape and changes in elevation to the fairways and greens to make it both aesthetically pleasing and a good test of golf. The course bunkers all have the coarse granite like sand and there were no problems with any unexpected bounce from a lack of sand. Trees down the sides off the fairway, provide the majority of challenges for each hole and the ground beneath the majority of these were clear making the finding of balls easy. The second cut beneath them being sufficiently deep to provide an additional difficulty when playing a stroke out of it but did enable players to find their balls which is a good balance of penalty and reward when playing out of them. The fairways were all in good condition with a good coverage of grass. They were, however, in places still a little soft which given the weather in the UK at the moment is hardly surprising and I don't think should be a detrimental point for the club. The greens were pretty level for the majority of the holes with some changes in elevation but nothing that provided a massive sweep whilst you were putting, but were a fair test of skill. The putting surfaces were however in good condition and very consistent. There was very little in the way of damage by pitch marks which shows that the members do appear to care about their club. Some of our society members are actually members at the golf club and the the drinks, prices and food prices are all pretty standard in line with most other clubs in the area. The only downside for the society was that whilst we started off the 10th tee which was not a problem, we are quite a large society and as is usual with these things, pace of play amongst the groups varies. This mean that members of the golf club teed off between society groups as the groups were moving from the 18th to the 1st tee to continue our "back 9" as we had finished the 18th. The club members not realising a society had gone out and were in fact still playing. It would have been nice if there had been some notification for members that a society was playing. It was however only a single group that were interrupted halfway through the field of play and didn't change the appreciation of the course. All in all, a very good day out for a golfing society and I think the club is to be commended for its welcoming of society groups given the standard of the course.”
