Splendid hidden gem 💎 Stopped off for a fish finger wrap and my wife had 3 scrambled eggs on brown toast, both delicious and well presented with a smile. Perfect sea view just tops everything off.we will be back to get our steps in.

We stopped here close to closing time and the staff were great. They offered us the snacks we wanted and prepared them with no fuss. The food was great and the coffee was very nice. If you are here on the beach or just passing, stop here for a bite or drink.

We had the Friars Breakfast, I have a gluten intolerance and was very pleased that I could have everything that my husband had, with GF sausage & toast. It was all well cooked & nicely presented. Good value for money and a super view of the Isle of Wight. Will definitely be back.

Stopped off here for breakfast mid walk. Freshly cooked full English served up by friendly, attentive staff. Sipped on a freshly ground coffee, looking out the picture window, watching the world go by. Very relaxing. Outside seating too, when the weather's kinder and there are less seagulls.. Takeaway available too + ice cream on offer

Alderholt Mill

Sandleheath Rd, Alderholt, Fordingbridge SP6 1PU, UK | N/A

Rating: 4.7 (63) Price Level:

Great few nights stay! Stayed at mills end which was a nice rustic room connected to the main back garden with its own dedicated door and bridge! The ceiling is quite low however. Although I was fine, my other friend who is 198cm was finding it difficult to walk from one room to another.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The place is historic, cosy and well equipped. The cooked breakfast was delicious and hearty. The shower is powerful and hot. Felt more like being at home than on holiday. The local animals can be noisy, but it is the countryside so you can’t complain. The road is busy though, with traffic throughput the day & night, but that is not the Mill’s fault.

Peace and quiet. If that is what you want then this is the place for you. The cottage and gardens are well kept and immaculately clean. The mill is run by a lovely couple Richard and Sandra and is open for cream teas Saturday and Sunday. I can recommend the cream teas as the scones are the lightest I've ever tasted, made with their own flour. The only reason I did not give 5 * is that the lane is very busy with no footpaths so consequently could not go for a stroll anywhere. Also the wifi is sporadic

Fantastic Cream Tea and Cake. Scones are baked inside the mill with freshly ground flour from the water wheel. Incredibly relaxing and wonderful garden to walk. Ran by a family of truly lovely people. Highly recommend. But get there early in the day to avoid disappointment.

Have loved this place for years, even better now they've redone the toilets! Took my little boy here to see Santa Claus, amazing experience and the set up was lovely. Lunch afterwards in the cafe was as good as I remember it to be. Keep it the way it is please.

We wanted a little drive out, so we decided to go to this garden centre from Poole ( about 25 miles ) as we wanted somewhere we could also take the dog, when we got thier the staff was very kind and friendly as it was late afternoon about 3pm we decided on a late lunch/ dinner so I had the ham egg and chips and the other person with me only had a coronation chicken sandwich and she wanted room for Dorset apple cake unfortunately when she checked they had sold out but wasn't surprised as I like I said it was late afternoon, so she decided she would have a scone with cream and jam and I must say the food was delicious and all responsible priced, we both also had a coke We also visited the pet shop within the ground it's small but very compact and has most things. you would need for your pets . The dog got a few presents as it was his birthday and had a doggy ice cream. We didn't really have time to have a good look round the garden centre but we did have a look at a few prices on things that were around us like hanging baskets and they were very full at only £24.99 to me that seamed cheap so next time we need some flowers etc we be going to go back here again. Overall the staff were very friendly the cost was responsible and we even had people that lived thier talking to us so a very pleasant afternoon and we'll worth a drive out if you want somewhere different We will definitely be back

The staff were friendly and welcoming. There were a selection of tables both inside and out, and the menu offered a variety of foods and drinks, I wasn't expecting a place like this to offer a such a fantastic burger and chips, but they certainly did! Can honestly say that it's one of the best I've had in a long time. My wife had a salad, which was also delicious and filling. We sat for some time enjoying the atmosphere and reading our books, whilst helping ourselves to more tea and coffee. This is a lovely place to stop for food and drinks, and we would highly recommend!

Visited on our way home after visiting Lyme Regis. Wanted somewhere for cream teas and normal lunches. Beautiful polytunnel to eat in, perfect for a scattered cloudy day about 16 degrees, any warmer might be too hot in there! We had a scone and an awesome Budda bowl - just excellent! Worth the detour! Our sausage dog monty was also made very welcome

A lush coffee shop/ brunch venue. Well worth it due to the cozy vibe. Perfect for a beach stroll and chill. Went back to have more breakfast and again it was amazing. Get the creamy mushrooms and add bacon! Careful as the toilet may not flush as efficiently as required. A poo-flush-poo approach may be needed.

Lovely place for a day out. Walks were clear and easy to stroll. The rope bridge was great fun. The views across the pool are stunning in a number of viewpoints. I guess when the azaleas are flowering it is absolutely beautiful. There's a nice cafe and lovely gift shop. I only wish we had visited before but will be back again before long

Went there as part of a new trail race and a great location. The pool is still blue all year so never disappointed, but obviously better when weather is clear. Great walks around. Good cafe. Well family priced.

Beautiful place to go for a stroll with much of the area covered by a forest canopy. Lovely little café which was reasonably priced with an amazing outlook onto the lake. Took a pram with my newborn with a fairly accessible route around the Blue Poole. Many of the other trails have steps to access so will use a baby carrier next time.

Great experience as a place, but also in the restaurant and in the store I would like to find things of very good quality, not just the basic one. The bread for breakfast can be one from a local bakery not a frozen baguette or the store could also sell organic milk in cartons not in plastic bottle or a yogurt in a jar not just plastic buckets...etc. Overall it was good with skilled and kind staff.

I could have spent endless hours pouring over everything in the shop. It’s a beauty to behold in the eyes of an American. There are assortments of wonderful pastries, cakes, cookies and breads. All types of condiments and sauces. An extensive meat counter with varieties of meat and fish (I regret to say my sausage and bacon from there were immediately seized upon my return to the US). Of course there are cheeses, spreads, pate and a great frozen section of many items including ready meals. The staff was friendly and the items I was able to enjoy (like the smoked trout terrine and a steak & kidney pie) were absolutely amazing

Great farm shop and very good restaurant, but has gotten incredibly busy. The farm shop is excellent, with a great butcher's counter and great selection of fruit & veg, as well as lots of posh nibbles. The restaurant is very reliable, decent food and good service. The only downside is that, with the large additional seating area they added to the restaurant, the whole place can get very busy. On a Saturday lunchtime we were lucky to snag the very last parking spot left in both the main and the *overflow* car parks.

Excellent, had a lovely vegan sausage roll, hot oat milk lattes were great and they serve all the jimmys! Ate outside, lots of tables, god atmosphere and flock of starlings (don't feed them!) - went on a cold, miserable day, will be back in the sunshine. Electric bike and scooter area right outside, has ice cream kiosk open on sunny days

After a good couple of hours walking it’s a good place to refresh and refuel before heading onward. We had the latte frappe and a slice of white chocolate topped brownie. Both were incredibly tasty. The place was really busy but the staff were working their socks off and keeping up with demand. It was a little bit pricey but that’s expected being the only refreshments in a tourist hotspot. If you sit outside like we did, don’t be surprised if you make some feathered friends. The local birds are very brave and will come right up to you for a crumb or two. The area is dog friendly but dogs are not permitted inside the cafe.

After walking our dog on the beach we decided to pop in to grab a coffee. I don't normally bother to eat out as I am coeliac. Glanced at the menu and ordered a tuna and cheese gluten free toastie. It was amazing and I even got offered brown seeded or white bread. My husband enjoyed his bacon roll but for me this was a brilliant experience. Thank you so much.

Had a wonderful meal for my wife’s special birthday. We asked for a table right by the river and we got one of the best spots. The food was really good quality and well cooked. Especially the Lamb Shank Tagine which was exceptional. The staff were attentive and always helpful. The price will not break the bank and represents excellent value for money. We would definitely go again. Thank you all the team at The George.

The George in Fordingbridge is a charming riverside eatery that captures the essence of quaint dining with a creative twist. The interior decor is not just visually appealing but also whimsically adorned with amusing signs and quotes that lend a lighthearted, humorous vibe to the place. This establishment also boasts a unique garden area featuring cozy booths and a small vegetable garden, complemented by an engaging souvenir shop that adds to its allure. While The George exudes a delightful atmosphere, it could benefit from a slight refresh to maintain its appeal, especially as it gears up for the new season. The staff are notably friendly and considerate; however, implementing a standard uniform could enhance the overall professionalism and prestige of the venue. The food, while generally pleasing, could use minor adjustments in portion sizes to perfect the dining experience. These constructive suggestions aside, The George offers a creatively decorated and enjoyable environment. The ambiance, especially in the evening, is particularly enchanting in the garden area, making it a must-visit spot for both locals and tourists seeking a memorable dining experience. Overall, The George is a fantastic venue that promises a delightful visit.
