Reviews
While staying in Canterbury for a long weekend, we decided to take a short afternoon trip to Chilham and stopped by Badger’s Hill Farm and Cidery, expecting a traditional farm experience. It turns out the name is a bit misleading—there isn’t an actual cidery here, and what you’ll find is more of a nursery than a working farm.
They do have a few animals on the property, such as goats, sheep, pigs, donkeys, and miniature ponies, but each is fenced separately. There’s no feeding allowed, and since the animals were busy eating when I visited, it wasn’t clear if interacting with them would be possible at other times. It felt a bit structured for what I envision a farm to be.
However, the grounds themselves are beautiful, featuring an impressive nursery filled with a variety of trees, flowers, and plants that add a serene and picturesque quality to the place. The highlight of the visit was the on-site restaurant, where I enjoyed a well-brewed coffee and some truly outstanding carrot cake—moist, flavorful, and just the right balance of sweetness.
It’s conveniently located, just a short walk from the train station or city centre, and easily accessible beginning on a pleasant walking path near St Mary’s. While it may not be the farm or cidery experience some might expect, it’s still a nice spot to explore if you’re looking for a peaceful afternoon surrounded by greenery.
A very cute and quintessential country cafe. The staff who, though were very busy, had time to be warm and friendly to us. We had soup, sandwiches, hot sausage rolls and coffees, that were all tasty. Yum! There are gifts to purchase and of course cider and plants. Definitely worth a visit in the gorgeous part of the UK😊
Just the best garden centre we've ever visited! Lots to see, superb variety of plants and shrubs and the layout is very impressive. Including the prices. Has animals too. Very nice café, lots of seating, both inside and out.
What a lovely place to visit if you are looking for garden pots. What a selection of sizes and great prices! plants/ shrubs ,all in beautiful condition and very reasonable prices .Visited with grandchildren and there is an outdoor play area ,fenced in .Alongside there are goats ,chickens you can see everywhere .we stopped for a coffee in the very reasonably priced bar area and sat outside in one of the wooden pods .On site is a restaurant too .It was busy everywhere ,which is always a good sign .
The staff were happy ,friendly and the service was good
Would visit again 😁
Beautiful place to visit. Loved the different sort of hen's etc just roaming around. The restaurant was great. Sat in one of there outdide huts to eat our breakfast 🥞 which was well worth the money.
