“Good place to go and get something to eat and drink and meet friends”
Rating: 5 / 5
This café inside Alton Community Centre provides tea / coffee / hot chocolate / soft drinks to many of the U3A members who attend the varied classes on offer. However, Peter, the owner, provides hot / cold food, e.g. 'All Day Breakfast' at extremely fair prices. The setting itself is pleasant with a nod to Jane Austin, the famous author of the Regency period. Try it

Excellent and friendly service. Peter made me feel really welcome and I enjoyed a very tasty light lunch. Would definitely recommend 😊

This is a no frills cafe. All day breakfast , snacks, light lunches, chips occasional specials and hot and cold drinks. Located in the community centre this us an independent business so you do not have to be using any other centre facilities as you are always welcome in the cafe. I am a constant visitor and can say that I have enjoyed my visits. Ideal for today's economy as a coffee / tea start at £1.20. Peter makes a very nice rock cake and charges only 70p

I adore this pub. Inside is cozy and they welcome dogs inside. Look on the bar for dog treats. The food was very good and everything was reasonably priced. The staff were wonderful.

After visiting Jane Austens house we wanted lunch. Across the road is this gem of a pub. It was busy, that wasn't a problem ww very quickly had a lovely table for 2 with a view. Our fabulous waitress was lovely friendly knowledgeable and chatty. Order taken food arrived, extra drinks coffee everything was no problem! Best Hummus and flat breads, Aranchini were fresh and yummy. Go you will not be disappointed, dont forget your dog because they are also welcome too !

Great pub and fantastic food. Particularly careful with allergies which is reassuring. Fish and chips were fantastic and my friends had the roast which was really good. Desserts were pretty special too- cheesecake, crumble, sticky toffee and Bakewell tart, all recommended.

Happened to come here on the day the new owner signed the lease. A great pub, with good food and drinks, but above all, a good community atmosphere!

Stopped for a quick breakfast for me and the breakfast wraps for the kids. Quickly produced and quickly consumed. No issues with the food and plenty of seating. Certainly a good cafe to stop over at if you have time to kill for a bus or train.

Had a delicious bacon sandwich with a hash brown here! Lovely soft white bread, all wrapped up to take away. Service was friendly and quick. Would recommend.

Proper greasy spoon. This place let you actually customise your breakfast so you don’t have to take things off and ask to replace things, you pay £8-£10 (5 pieces for £8 and 9 pieces for £10) and it comes with a coffee. Parking onsite as well which is decent, staff are some sound people but the place feels like a proper caf

Love this place! Perfect place when only a full english will hit the spot. Well priced, the staff are great and service is quick. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but if you are looking for a genuine caff you won’t go wrong. A rubbery egg isnt going to happen, the chef is on it! Due to its proximity to station and being a biker friendly spot it’s great for people watching and spying some classic bikes too. Ticks all the boxes for us :)

“We had our wedding at The Departure Lounge Cafe and it was the best decision we made! Simon was so accommodating to all...”
Rating: 5 / 5
We chose the departure lounge as our wedding venue and had the most amazing time. Family and friends all unanimously said what a wonderful place this was and how beautiful the scenery was. Simon was incredible working towards the wedding, he was extremely transparent with his services and open to what we wanted to do. Extremely good value for money too. We had set-up time a couple of days before so we didn't feel too rushed. Great food - go for the Hog Roast. On the day, he and his team were extremely pleasant and working round all of us to make the most special of days, special. Nothing was too much to ask. I would seriously recommend this place as a wedding venue. I've got in mind some birthday parties I would like to host in the future here too. Thank you DL for making our day! If I had to, (I hope not), I would do all of it again, there.

We held our wedding here in June 2024 and highly recommend it. Simon and his staff were amazing, helpful and very organised. We had the BBQ and the food was great with lots of options. The whole venue is very well priced and well worth it. You get total freedom with what you want to do and Simon is very quick to respond with any queries you have. All of our guests have been saying how great the venue and staff were on the day. I couldn't recommend this place high enough.

We held our wedding reception here, on can not recommend it enough, Simon and the team were amazing with a professional can do attitude delivering the wedding of our dreams. The value for money is in the setting, the layout, flexibility and the extra touches already in place to make the wedding go well. We loved all the fairy lights, barrels, easels and decor all available for us to use included in the hiring fee. The quality of all the food, service and team were first class. The reception was even packed up for us to collect which made it so much easier to do the following day!! Thank you to everyone at departure lounge for achieving our dream wedding!

I had my wedding here on 24th August 2024 and I honestly could not have picked a better location, more perfect host and the MOST amazing staff. I wanted an informal and very child and family friendly wedding and Simon made our special day just perfect. My Dads dog attended and got spoilt rotten, there were 21 children and bouncy castles, the hog roast and BBQ was to die for, I highly recommend! If you want your wedding to be perfect please choose this venue. Nothing was too much trouble for Simon and his staff. I literally can’t recommend enough. All guests said it was the BEST wedding they had ever been to. We went back the next day to load up and everything had been packed up ready to load the car, we didn’t even have to do that. We had access three days before to do as much as we wanted in preparation and to decorate. I read reviews and never write them myself but on this occasion I couldn’t not because this venue is simply AMAZING. And what makes it is the personalised and friendly approach from Simon and the staff. Don’t hesitate just book… And to review the cafe, my friends and I and my family visited many times in the run up to the wedding, the food is to die for, especially hard when you are trying to be good before a wedding, the general vibe is so welcoming and I would not hesitate to recommend this as a cafe for a bit to eat with friends and family. You will NOT be disappointed. Thank you The Departure Lounge for making our day simply perfect ❤️🥰❤️

Dropped into this pub for lunch given was in the area at the time and randomly picked somewhere. The food was not quite gastro quality it was most home cooking and was fine for lunch. Service was good and atmosphere had a really nice country pub feel about it.

The rooms were lovely, the service great, and food delish. The best location for exploring Jane Austen’s house and easy to get to from Alton Train Station! The room was super cutely decorated and had exposed ceiling beams. Lots of lighting options and even a mini fridge. Comfy bed. The pub is a must! Great service, delicious food, dog friendly, and a warm fire going. Only downsides were the lock on the door - maybe instructions should have been left for this? It was extremely hard to lock and unlock. Something about holding the door handle up at a certain angle for it to work? This should be a very straight forward thing but it wasn’t and was a frustration every single entering or leaving. And it was rather chilly. It was January and there is a radiator under the window but it felt chilly and one night was very cold.

A little café hideaway with some beautiful canvas art on the walls and warplane nostalgia too. You'd swear you were sitting in a military bunker waiting for the order to fly. Great food as well.

Great little independent cafe in Alton, does the trick for a breakfast, snack or just a hot drink and a catch-up with a friend. One off thing is the pricing on the breakfasts, such small differences in price versus what's on offer. Given Spoons is down the road, lowering the pricing of the smaller breakfast to stay marginally competitive might be worth a shout.

The food was OK, only three small mushrooms on the big full English. Like the choice of breads, i.e., sourdough, white, brown. Staff were friendly. Cafe was clean good variety of meals.

We took our son here for his 16th birthday meal with some family, and it was really nice. Brand new restaurant done up brilliantly with a Texas feel and lovely attentive friendly staff. The menu is fantastic with loads to choose from. Obviously, steaks, but also PiriPiri chicken, pasta, burgers, and the starter options, were great, including marrow bone and Buffalo wings. They do a great mash and gravy to go with the steaks, and you have a great choice of different cuts and sauces and chips with a nice side salad. Everything was fresh and tasty and presented really well with perfect size portions. Very reasonable prices. This place is great for large groups or just by yourself if you fancied a really good meal. There is plenty of free parking. Give it go, you won't be disappointed it's open on a Monday night too, which is great 👍 😀 😉

We finally got around to visiting the Texas Steak House in Ropley after driving past for weeks/months thinking “we should try there” since it was opened. After our meal there we are glad we did. The food was very nice and good value at ~£90 for a 3 course meal (incl.a fillet steak) and drinks for 2. We made a reservation ahead of time, just incase they were busy via their website without issue, they didn’t ask us if we had one when we arrived but so not entirely sure they check this. It was reasonably busy Saturday night, parking on site was available right next to the restaurant with no issue. Service was good, timely and polite. Not sure what I expected from the atmosphere but the room was filled with friends and families chatting. The background music was more formal and the only thing I was confused about, it seemed better suited to a fine dining experience (not quite what I imagined for a Texas themed restaurant). Would we go again, for a date night / family meal / get together? Yes

Visited for my husband’s birthday. Food was presented lovely and very tasty. Starters ideal for sharing. Staff friendly and good music playing in the background which added to ambience. Nice atmosphere and lovely surroundings. The small booths were a nice intimate space, dotted around the restaurant. Decor & lighting modern and couldn’t fault it. Ideal for an events space with live music I feel - the perfect venue. Will definitely be back! Thank you for the complimentary drinks at the end too. Much appreciated and was a lovely touch to evening.

I read the most recent negative reviews all by the same table! Myself and my wife ate opposite your table so I know exactly what went on that evening. Let’s tell you about our experience first. The food fantastic all fresh vibrant and extremely hot. The drinks were perfect and the staff extremely professional. The atmosphere perfect until your table arrived. My wife is vegetarian and she absolutely loved hers and my steak awesome. We left happy and we payed for our drinks before we left unlike your table. The negative reviews you left make no sense whatsoever after reading them, clearly vendictiv.

We came in here after viewing Jane Austen’s House which is across the road. It was nearly closing time and we ordered a latte, tea and red velvet cake. Most of the cakes had finished including scones. Overall, it was ok and the price wasn’t that expensive. I really enjoyed the decor and the ceiling with teacups. They also had a small booklet with events that would be happening in the area for the month of June which was quite nice to see what else can be done in the area. The staff were friendly and polite.

Delightful little cafe opposite Jane Austen's cottage, very cosy and friendly. There is a pretty little outdoor seating area opposite Jane's cottage, so you can enjoy the tea and Cakes and soak up the atmosphere and listen to the birdsong. There is a free car park and some lovely walks through woodland close by. Could be improved with a greater range of vegan/dairy free options, but my crumpets and marmalade were delicious. Excellent tea.

What a nice cozy pub. Good food at fair prices with friendly staff. I was passing through on my own and called in. I had the homemade pie, carrots, mash and gravy, which was great. Followed by the homemade sticky toffee pudding which was very good too. Wish I lived nearer. Go try it 👍

A last minute birthday celebration booking. 6 of us dining, 5 of us ate off the main menu and I ate from the carvery. Starters and mains for all of us. The nachos are yummy but be warned it’s a large portion. Everyone was really happy with their choices, I can only speak for the carvery. I was given all 3 meats, beef, turkey and pork, whilst the beef was a little chewy they other two meats were lovely. A good selection of vegetables and roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy, my plate was quite full. The meal was lovely, the atmosphere was good, the staff were lovely. We will be back.

We recently hired The Barn for a family party & Rob & his team of amazing staff could not have been more accommodating! From my very first enquiry email through to collecting items the day after the party nothing was too much trouble! Communication was faultless, service on the night was above excellent, we had a lovely girl staffing the bar at all times & another lovely colleague of hers helping when needed…gorgeous girls…so very kind, friendly, chatty & helpful! The food was exceptional, extremely generous portion sizes & the Barn was just the perfect venue for what we wanted, I cannot recommend this place enough…I’m looking for an excuse to through another party now as we can’t wait to return🎉🎉
Rating: 4 / 5
The carvery was excellent with 3 choices of good quality meat very well prepared. One of the widest choices of vegetables I've seen. Service was OK but a bit mixed. Getting drinks was quick and efficient. Settling up the bill for individuals in a group proved problematic. All resolved in the end and prices were real value for money.
