You have to venture inside to appreciate this beautiful large quirky space. Shop front has no seating, but go on through after you've ordered at the counter and you'll find yet another room...and then another. Well worth an investigation, wonderfully decorated, lots of seating, some really comfortable chairs too...coffee was great. When we visited on a Sunday, there was no food, only coffee was being served and a few cakes. I had a Cortado, would have preferred it in a smaller cup or glass...my companion ordered a flat white which was unusually served in a lovely small cup, while my Cortado came in the big glass, didn't look so nice. But like I said...it tasted GREAT, strong and smooth and that's what counts. Highly recommended. Thanks guys ✨

We can’t recommend The Hackney enough as a wedding venue! When we were planning our wedding, my now-husband and I were on the lookout for something a bit different—not too traditional, with a cozy, intimate vibe. The venue’s industrial style caught our eye as soon as we walked in for the first viewing and knew right away it was the one for us. Working with Hugo, the venue coordinator, was absolutely seamless. From our first planning meeting to the food tasting, everything felt super smooth and stress-free. Hugo really knows his stuff and made the whole process so easy for us. One thing that really stood out was the planning spreadsheet Hugo gave us. It broke down all the costs and let us play around with different options to see how they’d impact the final price. There were no hidden surprises—just total transparency. We were a bit nervous about having an all-vegetarian menu, worried that some of our meat-loving guests might not be into it. But the food was a massive hit! Even the pickiest eaters loved it. People are still talking about how amazing the dishes were—especially the smoked butter, which was a crowd favourite. Overall, The Hackney was the perfect backdrop for our wedding. It had the right mix of unique style and incredible service. The Osbornes

We celebrated our daughters wedding here recently. It was a fabulous venue, very stylish. The staff were all professional, very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was exceptionally good and we had a wonderful time and made many many lovely memories, which we will treasure forever.

I’ve photographed a couple of weddings here recently and I’ve been really impressed by how friendly and professional this venue is. It’s a compact space but can cater for a decent crowd - up to 60 for a sit-down meal and more for a standing event/party. The style is industrial (as befits the location) with loads of lush greenery, candles and the all-important disco balls, and a covered outside area. As a wedding vendor, the staff treated me extremely welcomingly and kindly and I’ve heard from my clients that they also felt well looked after during the booking process. The food was amazing. It’s a great place for a cool East London wedding reception and I hope to work there again!

I photographed a wedding here on the weekend. It was one of the best venues I've been to. The staff are so amazing and friendly, they really look after their suppliers. The wedding breakfast room is a perfect combo of industrial and high end but still has a cool edge to it with its white brick and metal frames. I would like to that the staff at the venue for being so lovely to me and I cant wait to be back again.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by an inviting atmosphere and warm folks running the place, who exemplified kind professionalism. The food was delicious — I had the avocado toast with poached eggs and a side salad. The portion was generous and each dish was top notch! The ingredients are clearly of a high quality and the dishes executed skillfully. The hash brown is worth a paragraph itself—the perfect ratio of crunchy exterior and pillowy soft interior, sprinkled with a large grain salt. It was inspiring! I will surely be back and recommend to those who like happiness to drop by.

This is the first time we had our breakfast here. We had Middle Eastern plate with mug of tea and cappacino, especially made by Elif. With each bite we were able to experience a unqiue blend of taste, deliciousness and juiceness. The presentation was incredible, Elif's energy contagious and ambience was light and charming. Highly recommend :)

I come here regularly and it’s honestly my favourite brunch I ever have in London. Delicious coffee and food. I love the Middle Eastern breakfast (photo) and also the Turkish eggs the most, but I’ve had about 8 different dishes off the menu and would recommend them all. I also recommend adding a hash brown with whatever you order if it’s not part of the meal as they’re amazing. Lots of great vegetarian options. Dog friendly. The staff are so kind and sweet, it’s perfect here.

Absolutely beautiful place with absolutely phenomenal food. Prices were standard for London and with the quality feels worth it anywhere in Britain. Beautiful plants around the shop and fresh flowers at every table with petals garnishing filling, delicious food. I was asked about the quality of my food three times, which is a record for me. Friendly, insightful people. Above and beyond. If I lived near here I'd have to go all the time. Overwhelming standard for breakfast and lunch. A real treat no matter the occasion.

Exceptional food. Mushrooms were my favourite, loved the garlic sauce and parmesan (?) cheese it came with - and no sparing on the sauce amounts. Proper size portions! Pork rib-eye was exceptionally tender, and the way that the apple sauce combined with the prune and pig's head croquettes was very clever - kind of tastes of mince pie with them all together, but eat the apple sauce or croquettes alone then it doesn't. Wish I could come every month...alas...too much else on my to-do list. But our paths will cross again. Note that it is a wee bit smokey inside...took a minute or two to acclimatise.

Finally! Got to chow down on the Basque menu and everything we ate and drank was delicious. Service was warm and on point. Yes it's not cheap but why should it be, you're paying for flavour and quality and it shows. Hoping to get back for the "best of" menu in September...or fingers crossed for another smash burger pop up (please!!)

The food, the atmosphere… everything was exceptional. I don’t know how to say it, but it’s almost something more than just a restaurant. Maybe it’s the intimate size of the place, or getting to sit at the bar and see everything come together. Whatever it is, the team have definitely got something special going on in that kitchen! We tried a good selection of dishes, but I can’t really pick a favourite. Each one had something special about it. It’s all genuinely really good food with fun and tasty twists. ‘Small plates’ probably doesn’t do it justice, they’re proper generous portions! I just wish I’d visited sooner, but what a treat to visit for the greatest hits menu and I can’t wait to visit again!

location was not so easy to find, and the service not so friendly either. As the place was so packed and tables looked not so clean, decided to have a takeaway. After having the beef birria sarnie I understood the high rating of this place, the flavor was perfect! The bread is great though I feel a little bit overpriced. The location is fairly central near Dalston Junction but a little bit set back from the High Street. We got two baguettes which were delicious. We was happy that we were allowed with our dog in the queue for the bread counter. 🥖🥖🐩

A must visit for delicious bread and sandwiches! The focaccia is fresh and a classic done right. The lunch selection is delicious and so difficult to choose from because all the sandwiches sound amazing. The mapo tofu and sweet potato sarnie was an explosion of flavor and ingenuity! Don’t miss out on honey, fennel & feta swirl as it’s so unique in its flavor

Came here for a late breakfast recently, their coffee was great, I had the egg chilli cheese with bacon which I really enjoyed, the focaccia was light and bouncy allowing the sandwich to easily be bitten through. My father had the feta honey swirl that was well balanced between sweet and savoury. Overall lovely atmosphere and will be coming back to try their other options.

Local bakery and breakfast eatery. If you don’t know how to fast here, it’s at the end of an alley way. Once we turned the corner and walked in it was a surprised look on our faces. The pastry was quite good. I had a toast which was like French onion soup on toast. Limited seating so be prepared to sit outside.

Great brunch spot! Definitely recommend booking in advance as people were turned away while we were waiting to be seated. Their chili poached eggs were amazing with the house sourdough. I also loved the atmosphere and didn’t feel rushed by staff.

I’ve been here loads of times now and figured I’d leave the fiver since it’s never missed for me. The menu rotates except for the buns and maybe a few others but jesus is everything always incredible. People have been nice when I’ve been here but I’m always here on slower hours during the week. You can work during the slow week hours and the place is cool with it. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, really great natural light inside, coffee and coffee options have been better than average as well. They also grow some of their veg on the roof here and the neighboring building, would be cool to get to see more of that but I’d guess if you sent an email and had like a project they’d take you up there.

Having my end of the year folded egg bun to close 2024. What a year it’s been! And Brunswick East has been a place of utter joy. They listen to my nonsense every time I come in and reward me with the tastiest of treats. The take away boxes fold out into plates to make it easy when you need to eat on the go. What a bonus. Thanks for a great year and looking forward to all the unsolicited advice I will give you in 2025. 🫠

I had the best time going to this Cafe. The staff were incredible and so lovely! I had the pleasure of having the salad bowl and easy to say it was one of the best I’ve ever had, all was so tasty and the serving size was great. Such a nice environment with a lovely decorated and spacious setting. The toilets were also very clean and the decor were lovely! Would 10/10 recommend if you’re looking for tasty vegan food 😊

Such a gorgeous space! Lovely owners and the tastiest vegan food. We had the pakora burger and banh mi, and both were so fresh and full of flavour. Had to get a cherry chocolate brownie with home made ice cream to finish it off and I'm already planning on going back for another! A proper gem - glad to have this reopened in Hackney!

I'm new to the coffee hype so I decided to buy a latte since I was in the dalston area. Cafe melo is a nice, clean establishment. I saw quite a few people with their laptop so I can imagine it's a space for local people to have a pastry and a coffee. The latte didn't take long and I was happy with the results. I'll certainly go back again and probably pick up a sandwich or a pastry.

Very cute cafe ! I fortunately had the opportunity to visit the cafe when I went to play football in the area and had a delicious mushroom toastie. The coffee looked really good but I already had too much caffeine - the conversations around me focused on how incredible the cortado was - so I can recommend it. Cute vibes for people who like to read books in coffee shops with a mellow playlist in the background. Love the colours ! Love the homeliness !

Lovely venue and the staff were friendly from the moment we entered until we paid and left. Had an amazing experience at Cafe East as always! This is my 4th time visiting and it always gets better. The food was a delight, it looked and tasted on point - we tried the breakfast and yummy French toast 😋. The drinks were super refreshing too, we tried the fresh orange juice and the Surprise Me! smoothie. Coffee was perfect. Has to be the best breakfast around, especially for the price range! Despite living nearby, it's taken a while to get around to visiting Cafe East, because the reviews online talk about the queues that I didn't want to contend with. Thankfully when we visited around 10am a Friday morning, we found the place to be quiet with no wait at all. By the time we left about an hour later, the place was starting to get a little busier. Service was great and food arrived quickly - another thing I'd worried about after reading the reviews. Both of our meals - the veggie delight and the pancake & berries - were delectable and well portioned and the presentation was outstanding. The vegan sausage took me by surprise as I was expecting an imitation meat. What I received instead I can best describe as a sausage shaped fried veggie mix. No complaints though - it tasted great! Great decor and great vibes all round - I can see why it's so popular!

This place was divine! Initially we planned to go elsewhere but luckily we stumbled upon Cafe East with no queue and I'm so glad we gave it a shot. The service was lovely, not overdone. The birthday song by the waiters was also enjoyable. The food came beautifully presented and my eggs were cooked just how I'd asked. Pancakes were smaller than expected but with so much fruit also on my plate, the portion was just right. I loved the hash browns and grilled halloumi and my iced coffee came with crunchy ice - yum! Would definitely recommend and revisit. Just wish there was something to dry my hands with in the toilet.

One of the best places to get cakes in London hands down! Creative, handmade, toothsome and colourful. Nice staff too, very professional.

This place is phenomanal. The chai latte was one of the best I’ve ever had. The food was fresh and delicious. We ate the handmade vegan sausage roll and it was delicious. The owner is super nice. 10/ 10 I would recommend !

I got an iced latte with oat milk and hazelnut syrup, it was a tad too sweet for my liking. The banana and chocolate loaf was nice. Gave an extra star as the server was friendly

Great sidewalk café that I happened upon while walking in the neighborhood. Tried a couple different cake slices, the lunchbox cake, orange poppyseed, and the Victoria Sponge. All were just as delicious as they looked in the window(and they were stunningly beautiful)! As soon as I left, I regretted not trying a sausage roll as well, they looked as great as the rest of the baked goods!
