Upon entering the pub was rammed. Unlike anything I’ve seen in a long long time. It was loud, it was busy, it was Joe pubs used to be. We had booked a table to find with family and having never been before I did wonder how on earth we were going to converse in such a busy establishment. A lovely young lady wove her way through the crowds to the more peaceful restaurant at the back. Calm was restored, we could hear ourselves think. The three female staff that served us were helpful, quietly observing as they went about their duties. Glasses cleared away, drinks replenished meals brought and cleared away with no fuss. One of our party was gluten free and that was dealt with and alternatives offered. Delicious food as as the evening wore on the pub itself quietened down. It’s good to see a pub thriving. Keep up the good work.
After walking around the Castle area, we just popped in for a cup of tea. It was brought to our table by a helpful, friendly server. Nice chilled atmosphere in there with a few locals at the bar.
Nice old fashioned pub in attractive village setting. Good car park. It was surprisingly busy at midday on a Friday with walking groups as the south coast path is nearby as is Portchester castle. Pub food well cooked at standard prices. Friendly service seemed a bit stretched - I asked for water which never arrived - but kitchen was obviously working flat out to serve us all. Nice place to meet.

What a great pub. Everything was 10/10. Friendly service, nice atmosphere, decent prices and the food was top notch. Sunday roast and dessert was delicious. Can't wait to go back.
