The Best Golf Courses in Carsington, Derbyshire, United Kingdom (2025)

We decided to book a champagne breakfast the day after our diamond Wedding Anniversary on which was 17th April. The breakfast was arranged for Good Friday , 18th. As it was Easter weekend, we confirmed the booking last August. The menu had changed in 2025 but they agreed to honour our original booking which was based on the previous menu. We placed our individual orders a week before the event. Our party consisted of 21 adults and two children plus a baby. We were welcomed warmly and given the Atrium which was beautifully laid out for us. Once we were seated the various courses were served. The staff were extremely attentive, ensuring that the coffee pots and teapots were replenished throughout the meal and orange juice regularly topped up. Everyone enjoyed their choice of food which were amply proportioned. We can understand why the new menu is less extensive (at a lower price) as a starter followed by a main after pastries proved too much for most guests.We were asked when we would like the champagne to be served and opted for the end so that we could make our toasts. All in all it was a most wonderful, unhurried occasion with quality fresh cooked food and excellent personal service. Throughout the whole process from initial booking to actually attending us on the day, Laura Ryder has done an excellent job. Her customer relations service is one of the best I have experienced in my 82 years. It is certainly somewhere we shall consider for our 70th anniversary in 10 years time (lol) - just being positive!

Our first time in the new restaurant and I have to say it didn’t disappoint. What a change, the design is a huge improvement from before, they’ve created a welcoming and contemporary restaurant which is matched with a varied and interesting menu. And so lovely to look out over the stunning golf course. The food was good, so was the service. Looking forward to our next visit, would definitely recommend!

Enjoyed an excellent breakfast on our 1st visit to Horsley Lodge. Wonderful views across the golf course & surrounding countryside. Well done chef, a perfect full English with quality ingredients, our best breakfast ever at a great price. Will return soon to sample the lunch menu.

We went for a meal there. The service was very good, especially as it was really busy. On an offer is 3 starters smaller ones. Very nice. However, the belly pork was dry. My friend shared the cheese and nachos they really enjoyed it. Then 2 of us went for the horsely lodge burger. 1 went for a chicken burger, and 1 went for the fish. The beef burgers were OK but overcooked. We were all too full for desserts. The real ale is really nice. Overall, it was a pleasant evening.

Fancied trying somewhere new for lunch in the Matlock area, so popped in and ended up joining the Golf Club with my son ! We were made to feel so welcome by Fame the owner, and by Liz and Darcy. My son is Aspergers but was made to feel so at home. Can't wait to get on the first tee. Looks a fab course. Can highly recommend watching the mini series on Youtube Changing the "Business of Golf" which charts the amazing story of Fame and how Stanedge has been reborn. A real labour of love !

What a fantastic golf club, one of the best we have played. Great course in great condition. The welcome was genuinely warm and welcoming. The food was superb. The decor was just lovely and the ladies room was beautiful. We will definitely be back every time we are in the area. I honestly can’t recommend enough.

After having played a couple of times this past fortnight, I must say what a lovely well kept and attended course. I have really enjoyed playing here. As a high handicapper, having only played for just over a year, I found it challenging but really a very rewarding experience. The staff in the clubhouse are lovely and friendly. A very welcoming club. If I lived closer, I would be very tempted to join. We will definitely be back. Thank you !

Played here on a sunny Sunday evening and really enjoyed the course. The tees, fairways and greens were in really good condition, and as far as the holes go my favourite was probably the uphill par 3 9th, although I enjoyed all of the par 3's. Of the rest the downhill par 4 11th will remain long in the memory, and the 12th will have you wondering just how far you can afford to hit your tee shot with water at the bottom of the fairway. With one or two exceptions the fairways are reasonably friendly, so a course that anyone can really play. I'm not saying they'll necessarily score well though. The greens are pretty tricky too. It's not a flat course, so if you have any issues with a few climbs then this might be one to consider getting a buggy. It is worth playing though.

Nice course with very welcome Pro. Has a small range (but you can hit driver) and warm up area and a practice green. The course is nice with some interesting holes including ones with water in play. A decent length as well, particularly off the back tees. The only issue I had was with some of the greens (which seem somewhat of upside bowls and impossible to stop the ball on), and a fair few blind tee shots. But these are only small issues. For the price it’s definitely worth a visit.

Excellent game of golf, the course was in great shape and the greens were rather fast. Gorgeous pint of ale afterwards and the best fish finger sandwich I’ve ever had!

Wow, what a gem! It’s not very often you get humour, support, coaching and value for money. That’s what I got from a last minute booking for Ashbourne Golf course. The pro shop were very friendly, but Neil and Andy made my day. When they welcomed me to join them. It really helped and I went from 20 over to my best round of the year. Neil and Andy, you are very lucky to have such a thinking persons course. It really is a test and even though I live 200 miles away I will be back. Good luck with the competition.

What an absolute pleasure to play a course which I must have driven past many times and never really knew it was here! Excellent condition out on the course. Made very welcome in the Pro Shop and Clubhouse bar. There are some little touches which make the experience so memorable. The outside seating alongside the practice green is no doubt well used and made for a welcome post round refreshment seat! Stunning views on many holes, the challenge on each is different taking the experience up a further notch! Thank you for supporting the On Course Foundation with their fund raising!

What an absolute gem of a golf course! But my word it’s hilly so get a buggy!! £40 for manicured greens and well presented fairways, different challenges and views over Hope Valley. Just brilliant, will be back (with a buggy again)

Lovely course in the hills beyond Castleton. A good test of golf with stunning views. Greens were in fantastic condition considering how early in the season we played. Memberswe met and staff were very friendly.

Superb golf course and setting. Well worth a visit if you get chance, although a little brown just at the moment, the tees, greens and surrounds are well watered so still very playable.

Beautiful views of the week maintained course. Plenty of seating and very clean and tidy. The menu is small but with locally sourced and perfectly cooked ingredients every option our group ordered was really lovely. Staff were well turned out, friendly and helpful. They were obviously happy and it made for a good atmosphere. In addition our party included a (well behaved) dog who they were happy to show in white we were eating which was particularly nice and meant we didn't have to rush.

Great facility for any celebration, easy to get to it, located in scenic surroundings, our fun casino set up worked really well. Manager is friendly, professional and lovely, she made our visit unforgettable ❤️

A cracking day's golf with my society. Lovely welcome from all staff , clubhouse looks superb, excellent roof terrace , drink prices are standard, . Course in excellent condition, greens a bit slow but that's like the majority of courses at the moment due to lack of rain . Well worth a visit 👍🏌️🏌️🏌️

Played as a members' guest and what fantastic value it was. Only cost £15. Short course at just over 6000 yards,but very tricky.Tree lined,hilly and every hole is different.Lots of dog legs. Excellent Fast greens and very small.Lots of slopes. Very friendly club with an Excellent pro shop.

Really nice little golf club, friendly staff and great setting. Course has a reasonable variety of holes, some very challenging and narrow and other nice and open parkland fairways. A load of greens and tee boxes could be in better condition sure, but the value for what you pay, you really can’t grumble and everything is very playable. Enjoyed my round here, will definitely play again.

Great course, facilties, bar, food, beer, and all reasonably priced. Love the back to back 5s to start, then to follow that Holes 4 and 5 are spectacular back to back 3s. Would highly recommend.

Had a great breakfast here with family after my father's funeral. It was his club for 40 years and it seemed appropriate. Food was great. Nice place. Good staff. Great service.

Beautiful, mature woodland course. The greens were just coming into their best & were fast. Some tricky treeline fairways. The course has two par three holes known as 'The quarry', which are stunning. The clubhouse has a bar & and a small function room. Lovely surrounding countryside.

A course that has an outstanding signature couple of holes. The famous Quarry Holes that appear from nowhere. A blind hole called O'er the Trees gives you a clue about the hole. The 18th is over water par 3 and can be a challenging end to your round. Playing it in the Summer it is a good track in Winter I don't know about. It hosts several opens every year so keep a look out for them either on the club's web site or Golf Empire. The club house is ok with a good selection of drinks and food. You will enjoy this course.

I played here a couple of days ago, and the course was excellent, a real hidden gem. The condition of the course was superb, and everyone involved with the course was friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Didn't play but looked ok for a 9 hole course

Excellent little gem of a course. I have played many courses in the Derbyshire area and this is easily the best maintained. The greens are like carpets and the fairways are in exceptional condition. Will definitely be back
