The Best Golf Courses in Holbrook, Derbyshire, United Kingdom (2025)

Played here on a sunny Sunday evening and really enjoyed the course. The tees, fairways and greens were in really good condition, and as far as the holes go my favourite was probably the uphill par 3 9th, although I enjoyed all of the par 3's. Of the rest the downhill par 4 11th will remain long in the memory, and the 12th will have you wondering just how far you can afford to hit your tee shot with water at the bottom of the fairway. With one or two exceptions the fairways are reasonably friendly, so a course that anyone can really play. I'm not saying they'll necessarily score well though. The greens are pretty tricky too. It's not a flat course, so if you have any issues with a few climbs then this might be one to consider getting a buggy. It is worth playing though.

Peter and the team have been exceptional at helping organize a wake (around 70 people) for a family member. The venue, while simple, offered breathtaking views of the grounds and snowy hills, creating a serene and beautiful setting. The food was abundant and tasty; a selection of sandwiches, cold and hot dishes, as well as tea, coffee, and cakes. The staff were incredibly attentive, ensuring everything remained clean and organized throughout. Thank you, Peter, for your kindness and for hosting a wonderful wake for our family and friends.

Nice course with very welcome Pro. Has a small range (but you can hit driver) and warm up area and a practice green. The course is nice with some interesting holes including ones with water in play. A decent length as well, particularly off the back tees. The only issue I had was with some of the greens (which seem somewhat of upside bowls and impossible to stop the ball on), and a fair few blind tee shots. But these are only small issues. For the price it’s definitely worth a visit.

Played as a green fee whilst on holiday. Fantastic course with lots of interesting holes and great views. Good condition bearing in mind the amount of rain this year. The price was brilliant for the standard of the course. We played late afternoon and had a reduced fee. Definitely will play again.

Visited the newly opened restaurant and was surprised with what a transformation from what it was before. It was much more atmospheric than before with a more welcoming vibe. Service was fast and attentive and food was excellent especially the wood fired pizza. All in all and excellent evening and will definitely be going back 10 out of 10

Fantastic. Came for the opening of the new farmhouse kitchen and it was fabulous. The food was delicious, prompt and hot. The staff were friendly, welcoming and professional. This is going to be one hard spot to beat. Thanks for everything, Olli

Our first time in the new restaurant and I have to say it didn’t disappoint. What a change, the design is a huge improvement from before, they’ve created a welcoming and contemporary restaurant which is matched with a varied and interesting menu. And so lovely to look out over the stunning golf course. The food was good, so was the service. Looking forward to our next visit, would definitely recommend!

Lovely course , for the amount of rain we've had was it was dry all round. Greens were small but tricky which is a nice challenge. Lads in the society rated it up there

Apart from being a very fine course, due credit must be paid to the Head Professional Tim Coxon. Probably the finest in the East Midlands. Outstanding service.

Dinner dance on a Saturday evening food excellent as always, good dj, nice dance floor and fairly well priced wine. Always friendly and professional staff.

A very picturesque course and only a little hilly. Reasonably priced golf and refreshments with great, friendly staff. Definitely recommend a visit.

We had our summer barbecue wedding here August 2024 and it was amazing! The rooms, the staff, the gardens, the food… everything was perfect !! I would choose Morley hayes again, it was an amazing day

I have had the pleasure of working behind the scenes (used to be an independent wedding photographer (pre covid) and now as a regular customer. As a customer I will review first. We have had many meals here and each time the food has been beautiful, the service excellent and very reasonably priced. The atmosphere is always perfect whether it is a romantic meal or a catch up with friends. It really is a lovely place to relax. Today we attended the wreath making workshop, we all had a fabulous day and the 2 course meal was very nice. It was well worth the money. They make the place so festive too. I have serious light envy every Christmas! If you are thinking of having your wedding here then you are in for a very special treat. The staff put in so much work behind the scenes to make your day perfect, the wedding coordinators go above and beyond to make everything so special for you. They work with your photographers so you can get the best photos, they are polite and helpful too. This was one of our favourite venues to work at. The views are just stunning too! One of the things I do love about the place is that you even see the owners muck in with the hard work, they don't just leave it to the staff like most places do. Honestly give this place a try you will not be disappointed

We had our wedding at Morley Hayes. We have nothing but plenty of praise for them and our guests were impressed by the quality of the service. There was a lot of attention to detail and we felt looked after throughout the process and on the day. The food was amazing. The rooms were lovely and comfortable. We felt very special. Thank you!!

This year we went to the Christmas Santa Breakfast and Santa’s family lunch. Both experiences were just perfect! Jane went above and beyond to make sure everybody was happy on both occasions. The food was delicious, atmosphere perfect, clean and well presented. Santa was great and the gifts were of a high standard. I would highly recommend these events and huge well done to Jane and her team. Five stars to you all! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Billed as a very welcoming course, and guess what? It really is! Enjoyable autumnal round, members very welcoming, super lunch in the bar, recommend.

We play a lot of open competitions a year and two of the Lad's had never played Chevin before so I booked us into an open. The day from start to finish was second to none.We were made to feel extremely welcome by all the staff from the club house to the well stocked Pro shop then a starter that was a credit to the club. We had a top notch breakfast then a round on one of the very best courses we have played this year. Fairways were just like walking on carpet complemented by true greens that posed some issues to work out the line in short a top course. I would very strongly recommend this class golf club.

Excellent course. Not the longest in the world, but technical with sloped fairways. The technically gifted will have a significant reward. Nice clubhouse with friendly staff.

Fairways at Chevin Golf Club had the most delicious steak pie I have ever had. It had chunky beef pieces covered in thick, rich gravy. This is definitely a place for pie!

Beautiful little course. You play 12 holes then 13 to 18 are played over some of the same holes. Just rocked up and paid £20 for 1-12. Short but challenging holes. Friendly, helpful staff.

Love playing here and apart from the bunkers needing a bit of servicing the course is in good condition.glad to see they're putting more drainage in.just slightly annoying that 18 hole players cross over 12 hole players. We need a bigger course.

Beautiful views of the week maintained course. Plenty of seating and very clean and tidy. The menu is small but with locally sourced and perfectly cooked ingredients every option our group ordered was really lovely. Staff were well turned out, friendly and helpful. They were obviously happy and it made for a good atmosphere. In addition our party included a (well behaved) dog who they were happy to show in white we were eating which was particularly nice and meant we didn't have to rush.

Lovely food and nice environment. Utilities were goid and servjce was friendly. I was there for a Christmas party from work snd I really enjoyed it. There was a photo boot as well and that was lots of fun for the people involved. Nice experience, looking forward to repiting it.

Beautiful golf course to visit with warm club members. Decent charge on rented golf kits if you did not come with any. Course has a full 18 holes par 3s and complete competition course. The greens hold, so you can drop your balls on it and close to the pin. The bar doesn’t take cash, so don’t forget your wallet. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there

Went on the pirates crazy golf. The young girl on the till was absolutely lovely, the way she spoke so naturally happy, chatty and fun personality. Makes such a difference to an experience when you get greeted in such a way. Had a brilliant time and wished it went on for longer like 23 holes. That’s maybe something they could consider doing… Parking was very busy but also very good as lots of extra spaces. It was an immaculately clean nicely thought out course, even the net poles to retrieve ball out the water. It was well worth the price. Will certainly be going back again..

Friendly, helpful staff. Crazy golf facility looking a little tired, but still a good bit of family fun (plus a free pumpkin each, which was a nice bonus). Eating in the clubhouse was decent value.

Another great golf course that I have been to up North. Superb condition around all of the course and not just the greens. Will need to use good course management around it as some of the holes have a camber on the fairways so its quite fun and some of the greens can be quite exciting too. The food in the club house is really really good especially washed down with the beer on tap and the staff are very nice. Will be going down again in the next week and I can't wait!! ________________________________ Update: I have fallen in love with this club. Have played all over the UK but feel so great coming here. Brilliant course that is made perfect by the atmosphere of the staff and members alike. Have had great interaction leading to purchases of a new driver and hybrid. Didn't try to sell me just anything but gave me various options of clubs to try and see what suits me. Look forward to purchasing my irons soon and having some more of the great food and drink to quench my thirst after an enjoyable session on this picturesque golf course. _________________________________ EDIT: 14/10/2022 This is my go to golf course now. They are currently in the process of changing the first two or three holes by adding features to them. This will make it more interesting for the more advanced golfers by adding bunkers for the longer hitters as they will come into play on the first hole. The second hole par 3 will incorporate larger bunkers around the green so accuracy will be key. By doing these changes, this course is coming on leaps and bounds and I love every moment being here. You will not be disappointed and the staff are absolutely great to deal with. It's my second home now so to all of you that are thinking about playing this course , do it. You won't be disappointed. Just be patient as you might not be be able to play the first two holes at the moment but I feel this is going to be worth the wait.

Had a brilliant time playing this course. Really friendly staff and members & the course was super well kept and in great condition. Stunning location and the 10th is pretty spectacular. Looking forward to getting back.

Excellent Experience at Matlock Golf Course I recently had the pleasure of playing at Matlock Golf Course, and it was a fantastic experience. The course is in great condition, deceptively looking easy but offering plenty of challenges for all skill levels. Every hole had its unique set of obstacles, keeping the round exciting and engaging. The facilities were top-notch, and the food was excellent, making it a well-rounded day out. A special mention to the professional, Christian Goodman, who was incredibly helpful and offered some valuable tips that improved our round. I highly recommend this course to any golfer!

Played this course today, scenery beautiful. Lovely picturesque back drop but the course is not for beginners. The par 3’s are long, the par 4’s are long and the fair ways are packed with their own challenges. On top of this the greens are elevated with run offs too. Not a single flat hole, either steep uphill or steep downhill. Its a great challenge if you fancy yourself as a player, just not begginer friendly. The staff were nice and friendly, the place itself will no doubt be a good course to return to when i improve. But i play off 25 and today was tough. Thanks for having us Matlock Golf Club

A fantastic 18 hole golf course, lovely scenery and Deer watching as you play which is fantastic. It's just a shame that they don't reduce the green fees over the winter months like most courses as it gets very boggy.

Just arrived back after a 4 night stay. I can only describe the experience from the minute I arrived until the minute I left as Wonderful, Magical, Cosy, Home from Home, All Team Members ho above and beyond, so friendly and absolutely nothing is too much trouble. I would like to thank 3 people in particular, and this is in no way a reflection as these were the main people who assisted me during my 4 night stay. Tracy, Debbie, Lisa. I would love to put each of them forward for a staff award if you have one. I can't wait to stay again in 5 weeks as I never feel like I am away from home when staying at Morley Hayes it really is home from home. Thanks again ☺️

Beautiful place. My sister viewed here for a potential wedding venue. The grounds are beautiful, the staff are friendly and the coffee is the best tasting coffee I’ve ever tasted. Just wow. I will be back to eat.

Absolute class. My friend and I played on a glorious Sunday afternoon in October, and it was perfect. I knew about the reputation of this course as ‘the inspiration for Augusta’ and it does deliver. Dr Alastair McKenzie knew what he was doing. Amazing views from all corners of the course and despite the overall elevation, because the holes are carefully crafted into the tables of the terrain, it is a surprisingly good walk. The staff (shoutout to assistant pro, Liam) are super helpful and make you feel very welcome. Great hospitality in the clubhouse and you can enjoy watching players come in with a cold pint on the terrace. Cannot recommend highly enough and can’t wait to return next year. Proper golf course!

Played here for my birthday in October 2024 and had a great time. The course is great and very scenic. In addition, my dad was playing golf for the first time since an operation and the staff in pro shop and bar were very helpful. He's now keen to get out and play again thanks to a good to a good experience here.

Playing of mats has helped preserve good fairways. Although because it’s not flat course this can also be tricky with borrowed mats. Greens were decent but not overly quick and a bit long - it is December after all so can be forgiven. Good layout and picturesque par 3s. Would love to play in its peak during the summer
