A superb golf club, established over 100 years ago. Great greens, tricky lines in and a brilliant pro team to help get your game in top form. Highly recommended

It's a downland course, close to the M3. There are a reasonable variety of holes. It's not overly tough, but some of the greens undulations can be a challenge. It's quiet a hilly course, so if you're carrying, be prepared. The clubhouse staff are welcoming friendly. The food is OK. If you're in the area it's worth a visit.

A great golf course. And a tough one too so not for the beginner. Hilly, chalky countryside means it's playable in winter/spring when many other course are not. Pro shop and bar/clubhouse are good standard. And you'll deserve a drink when you've finished a round!

Nice staff (chap gave us a county club discount) and course layout. However, greens were super long and fairway not cut in a while meaning a few times we lost balls in patches of rough in the middle of it. If you roll off the fairway say goodbye to your ball entirely 🤣. Highlight is a 170 yard par 3 playing 130 because of elevation 👍🏻

Played Freshwater Bay golf club today, have driven past numerous times and even walked up Tennison previously. We booked by phone as they do issue playing times to players, so don't just turn up expecting to play. Our green fee was inexpensive with our County card £22 each and £10 for electric trolley (recommended). The golf course is situated on the south side of the Isle of Wight, on top of high cliffs. If you see the photos there are spectacular views from any point of the golf course. The tee area's were all in good condition as were the fairways especially considering the drought conditions we endured this summer. The greens and surrounds were exceptional good coverage of thick healthy grass, the greens weren't particularly fast today but played very consistent with a true roll. The course isn't particularly long at all, this didn't mean it wasn't a good test of skill, with some small greens. Had a really good welcome from proud members asking how we faired on their beautiful golf course

Great course on the south coast of the island. The winds were light for us but I can imagine it’s very tough when it blows! Small clubhouse but perfectly adequate for a drink and some food which was reasonably priced. Greens were reasonably quick and true. We would love to return.

Beautiful course..challenging and windy...fantastic views across the island..excellent condition..really friendly members and clubhouse makes you really welcome.. Will play again here and consider membership.. well worth a visit...😊..

Afternoon tea was a birthday pressie. Never been to this venue before, lovely setting overlooking the golf course. Staff very welcoming and hot drinks (unlimited refills) served straight away with food following soon after. All looked delicious. My only critisism would be the size of the sandwiches. Personally I would have preferred them to be dainty finger sandwiches and perhaps without the extras, i.e. picalilli, cranberry sauce, which are not to everyones taste. That said, we had a lovely afternoon and I am returning for lunch with a group of friends next month. Thank you.

What a lovely place! The friendliest and most helpful staff. Honestly one of the best afternoon teas I’ve had. Fresh, generous and good quality produce and the most tastiest scones I’ve ever had! Absolutely loved it. I’d love to return to try lunch or Sunday carvery some day soon!! Thank you so much for a lovely afternoon!! 😀

Love the course and the investment in the drainage to improve play in winter. Very helpful staff, the course is really enjoyable and great greens. I will be back, be great if you had a 9 hole price, as I rarely have time for 18. The pro at the club is extremely helpful and really knows he stuff. Always willing to help and the simulator in this weather is really useful.

I went there for a birthday meal, the food was amazing, it was a roast and the roast potatoes were perfect. I would thoroughly recommend them as their service was friendly and professional. The view from the club house is spectacular too.

The course is good and despite it being a 9 hole it does offer some real variety, it becomes 18 as you play the same holes from two different tee locations.

I had a great time playing this course. Props to the green keepers and wildlife that work in synergy to maintain the course with a combination of machinery and grazing. It was a pleasure to play a course that wasn’t overly manicured and seemed to blend into the natural environment it inhabits. The friendly ponies roaming the course made for a different experience and there is a good mix of holes surrounded by some unforgiving gorse that rewards the player that plots their way safely around course. The staff were friendly and I would thoroughly recommend playing this course!

What a beautiful course, in the heart of the New Forest. Some quirky holes with blind tee off's.. Quick greens and undulating fairways make for a fair challenge, certainly will return 👍⛳

A lovely golf club which is very welcoming. Not sure if the pannaging pigs in the bunkers are movable or immovable objects though?!?

This is a course that regularly gets plaudits from top 100 golf course lists, and it's easy to see why. The setting is scenic, it has all the practise facilities you could ask for, and the course itself is the star of the show. The greens had recently been treated, but didn't look too far away from being excellent again. The tees were good, and the fairways were just about holding up to the pressures of the summer heatwave we've been going through. There are lots of nicely shaped holes, and a good mix of short and long par 4's. It's also pretty friendly from the tee, so can be played by all levels of handicap. Add in the excellent clubhouse and friendly members (the ones I spoke to were anyway), and you've ticked all of the boxes. Highly recommended.

We visited here with our Society. A very good course, well maintained and the food was also extremely good. Feedback from our Society’s members was 100% positive. We will be booking next year and many years to come

Nice course and not outrageously expensive. Greens are pretty consistent although some of the fairways are a bit lumpy and can give some random bounces. That's my excuse anyway.

Good golf course, challenging yet forgiving if you manage the course. Beware the bunkers, lol. Golf buggies available. Book tee time on line and buggy. Discounts on buggies for medical reasons.

I have played here over the years and recently twice. The staff are all polite, friendly and helpful. I rely on them to pass on my compliments to the kitchen crew for excellent meals, and the greens staff for a well maintained course. Not the cheapest but certainly best value for money on a society day out.

I recently ran a Mental Health and Small Business - One Day Conference at Test Valley Golf Club and can't truly express how impressed I was with everything from the venue, to the catering, to the level of service. From the moment I enquired, Maria and Molly made me feel welcome and wanted to ensure they could accommodate as much as was feasible to create an event just as I had envisioned. The preparation and support provided was second to none. On the day, the food was excellent, the room was perfectly arranged and no dietary requirements or additional requests were too much trouble. They were so attentive and I can not wait to book our next event with them.

First class course in both condition and presentation. Helpful bar staff as we played late afternoon. Lots of attention to detail, would certainly return.

Sometimes.......... ....... and not very often....... you get to play a course and think.... this is it.. the perfect model for an ideal golf course........ I am lucky, I get to play many different courses all over the UK, Europe and parts of the US. Ferndown is a first...... the first time I have found that perfect model. Our welcome started before we even got to the course, an interchange of email with Sue Helliker, and a sound, solid, honest but polite response. The welcome on check in in the pro shop. An excellent breakfast in a very nice surroundings . A very welcoming, course starter who was informative and helpful without being some overbearing " dont do this dont do that" individual. Members who got stuck behind us, who kept checking we knew where we were going, and were clearly more interested in making sure we were enjoying our golf, rather than holding them up. The course itself is a gem, difficult / tricky, without being impossible, bad shots punished, without losing a ball, good shots rewarded. Shorter holes that really made you think about club selection, well protected greens and hazards / bunkers well placed in landing zones, greens that were both difficult and consistent. Could I pick a "weak" hole, no chance. So from a visitor who cant wait to return a big thank you, to the staff and the members we met alike, all of whom, seemed to be so rightly proud of this wonderful experience.

Unbelievable golf course. Classic course with heather and pines,slick greens and in top condition. Customer service top notch, steeped in tradition with a long history but welcoming in every possible way.Proud of their club and wanting to show it off to visitors.

Lovely course, a typical wintery day with murky clouds and it was pretty windy in some exposed places. I really enjoyed the variety of elevated tees, blind tee shots, water hazards and the views are stunning. I look forward to visiting again in the Summer months !!!

We are members anyway, and to be honest it's a very special place to visit. The sea view, Christchurch Bay, Needles in full view of, is stunning! Brendan for us being front of house, he is absolutely key to our experience, very witty, very hard working and attentive, along side a great team effort in general. We love it here, and will be forever regular visitors.

Fun course...good shape...a bit confusing as 3 9's so always around people and other holes. Would come back. Played it in a 3 club wind which always takes away a little something. Great views.

Best welcome to date…beautiful link course, with the Isle of Wight views. A big shout of to Christie in the pro shop who went up and beyond to help my partner and I find a good place for NYE. Also Graham Pole for his generosity in buying us a pint after our first game here, as the bar was closing with only cash payments. We will defiantly be back to play the final 9 soon. Sam & James 😃

Great little course and you rarely play from a flat lie which will improve your game. Several par fours that are reachable in one for the bigger hitters but enough tricky holes to keep it interesting. No lush fairways as it’s a Forest course, but ‘pick and place’ all year round. I’d give the course a 7/10, but the clubhouse and the members a good 9/10. The affordability of a round and the wildlife make it well worth a visit.

II absolutely loved it, excellent value for money. Played two rounds while I was on holiday. The scenery is stunning, with wild horses running everywhere, beautiful. The staff were very friendly, and other than a few hoof prints on the greens, the courses are in good condition :-)

Really good course & requires a different set of skills.(lots of chip & run/putter action) Fairways are wide & the grass is really short. Greens lovely & nice scenery……you get a few Forest ponies walking about but they cause no issues. Clubhouse really friendly & welcoming.

My son (HC6) and myself (HC12) played 3.34pm tee midweek. Although we played on a windy damp afternoon, we really enjoyed the course. It was immaculately presented from the off, very good tee boxes, well defined fairways and great greens. Well worth the green fee, we booked through golf now and saved significantly from the club price.

Been a member here for a little while now, and so glad to be a part of the club! The course is absolutely stunning, even through the winter months. Everyone is very friendly, the facilities are great, and they are constantly investing money back in. It's not a massively long course, but still a very testing layout. Plenty of well placed bunkers, streams and forest to contend with. The greens, which are some of the best around, are very tricky, and you are rarely left with a straight putt. 5* for me so far!

This is a lovely place to play golf. Pro shop and clubhouse very welcoming and the catering good, plentiful and reasonably priced. The fairways are well covered and generous and the greens are very good, some borrows and slopes quite subtle, others not so subtle. Not overly long, the fairways are quite generous but there is plenty of woodland to assist in losing the ball. Most greens are well bunkered but the sand is good and consistent. We really enjoyed it. Dull day but that didn't detract.

Great course, good condition for the time of year and even had decent weather
