Gordon and his team were asked to knock through a dining room wall to make a kitchen/diner as well as extend the downstairs toilet and fit a new kitchen and utility room. Gordon and his team came out to see us three times to ensure we were happy with the final plans. Gordon is able to look at plans and proposals with a creative approach and with a view to saving money and making improvements. The team worked efficiently, they were punctual, tidy and clean and were polite and friendly. They have a can-do attitude and nothing is too much trouble. Above all, the work they carried out was to a really good standard and we are delighted with the final product. I would use Winchester Builders again for any work and can recommend them without hesitation.

What do you want from a builder?

Gordon is a delight to have around, his work is impeccable and clean and he is delightful to chat with. He arrived early and punctually each day and project managed the other contractors brilliantly ( Plasterer, plumber, electrician)

When problems arose, as they inevitably do, Gordon was always thinking of, and discussing, the resolution options.

The project completed to time, to budget, and with remarkably few stressful moments.

We really fell on our feet having Simon and Gordon as our builders. We had our garage converted, extensive work on our dining room and kitchen, and had a new porch added to our house. They were with us every step of the way. They advised on room lay out, design and practical stuff like where to put plugs. They thought about the needs of a family and how best to set out a space we would enjoy living in. I was impressed by their professionalism, friendliness, trustworthiness and honesty. They have a broad range of skills and great practical intelligence. I liked listening to them solve problems with the building work. They thought innovatively and always came up with a great solution.

The building work happened at a time of supply chain challenges and building material cost increases. Simon and Gordon predicted what would be difficult to source and got orders in early. They would suggest ways to save money and think of alternatives when we came up against a block. One of the benefits of working with Simon and Gordon was their friends from across the building trade. They work closely with people who lay floors, a carpenter, an electrician etc. They have a flair for recognising talented builders and working with them. They were also able to coordinate when different people were needed to ensure the smooth delivery of the work.

They were in my home most days for a number of months. We lived in the house the whole time. They were careful to work around our needs e.g. ensuring that the kitchen was out of order for the minimum time possible and ensuring we always had a sink to use for washing up. When our building work ended we missed their company!

We are very pleased with the final result. We had not imagined what they could accomplish and are very grateful. We would not hesitate recommending them or the other professionals they work closely with.

We chose Gordon after watching him and his team add an upper floor to our daughter's bungalow. We were impressed by their approach to the job and by the end result.

We had an extension built and numerous renovations around the house undertaken. Gordon followed the architect's plans carefully, but made suggestions along the way when the building work uncovered things (such as a pre-existing pillar) which made an alternative approach sensible. Each time he clearly described the pros and cons of the options and allowed us to decide. It was clear that we could trust Gordon. Moreover, as Gordon works on a time and materials basis (rather than fixed price) we already knew that he would not be tempted to use short cuts or to hide mistakes.

Gordon's estimate for our job compared favourably with the fixed price quote we had received. We did spend more than his original estimate, but that was because we added items along the way as they occurred to us. However, the total cost of the project including the extra items was still slightly less than the original fixed price quote.

Gordon maintained a high standard of personal workmanship, and the other members of his team (carpenter, plumber, electrician and plasterer) followed his example. Their work still draws compliments from people who walk pass the house - five months after completion.

We had a warm friendly relationship with all members of the team during what could have been a highly stressful time. It helped that Gordon managed the project throughout in his calm reassuring manner. He managed not just his own team but also suppliers and building control. We were very happy with the end result, and like others before us we would wholeheartedly recommend Winchester Builders.

I thoroughly recommend Winchester Builders. The work they have done has been completed beautifully and the finish is high end excellent. The guys are pleasant and trustworthy - a joy to have around, give great advice and always leave the house tidy before they leave. The tradespeople they collaborate with have also all been excellent.
