Very welcoming atmosphere at the coffee shop clear repeated customers coming in and their orders were known by the employees. Very pleasant experience. All the paninis are made fresh to order. Paninis and cakes that I ordered were all of high quality and service was quick and friendly. Would highly recommend!

Very friendly spot for a snack before touring Canterbury. To this American tourist it felt very welcoming and part of a local neighborhood instead of a too-busy, in-and-out, grab-and-go place you might find in town. Besides, we discovered Mr. Blobby!

I had the best breakfast here since the beginning of my stay in the UK. I rate the whole experience very good. The service was nice and helpful. We didn't wait long after placing the order. The dishes were wonderful - fresh, tasty, pleasing to the eye and palate. Compliments to the chef. Delicious coffee. I will definitely come back here, even though the queue in front of the entrance is not getting shorter šŸ˜„ It's really worth it!

Absolutely adore this place! Me and my partner were so happy we found this during our trip and had become a firm favourite! Will definitely be back next time weā€™re in the area! Food is absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is lovely with the roaring fire on a cold November morning. The best eggs weā€™ve had in the UK, and my other half says the French toast with the honeycomb butter is to die for!

Nice little on the way in Canterbury from Canterbury West station. Very friendly staff and lovely cafe. We had breakfast/brunch and ordered the Rancher and the House Smoked Salmon and Avo with two tea. Very good and different from your normal breakfast offerings. Worth a visit.

Incredible food, lovely staff an overall really comfortable dining experience. Highly recommend for a quick breakfast, brunch or lunch. My companions had their meals prior, but the staff were happy to offer just the sides and a drink without any fuss. Perfectly situated along the way to Canterbury cathedral and surrounding areas.

My friend and I came to this place for a quick lunch. We both ordered a bacon and chicken toast and it tastes really good - probably some of the best toasts Iā€™ve ever had in the UK. The breads are perfectly toasted and delicious - definitely a hidden gem. The price is quite reasonable too.

CafƩ Solo

302 Wincheap, Canterbury CT1 3TY, UK | Cafe
P: 01227 470178

Rating: 4.5 (737) Price Level:

I was really impressed with cafe solo. We went there for breakfast and I really couldn't fault the food - I wanted a good fry up and that's exactly what I got. The milkshake here is also some of the best I've had around Canterbury, actually made using ice cream with a dollop of cream on top. The only reason I haven't put 5 stars for the food is because it didn't wow me like my other 5 star reviews, but it was still very decent. The staff were super friendly but gave us the space we wanted to eat together, the space was clean, and we were even surprised with complimentary Turkish delight. Overall, would recommend. They have a small carpark, but there are supermarkets nearby.

Me and my friends stopped by this lovely restaurant for lunch and it was absolutely amazing. The guy who served was so polite and the environment was so friendly. Cute interior giving out retro vibes. The food was in hearty portions and the cappuccino was out of my expectation! The froth was perfect and airy with the chocolate powder dusted evenly on top. I highly recommend this place if you want something simple but delicious.

I think itā€™s a family run business because they take pride in everything they do. Food was wonderful Staff polite Cafe very clean Thereā€™s only two cafeā€™s I would take my wife too and this is one of them.

I was so hungry I forgot to take a photo of my vegetarian breakfast (which was delicious). So I took this one off the outside seating area :)

Staying in a nearby hotel for Christmas but had to come here as have heard so much about it. A few pubs in Bridge and this one seemed certainly very nice but typical of a good country pub. BUT tried only a bar snack and thought YES I get it. I want to come back and have a meal soon.

The food was faultless - the crab starter was beautiful, my partner said the trout starter was the best trout heā€™d ever had and then the roast beef lunch was sensational. The young lady that served us was also lovely, so friendly and professional - refreshing. Would wholeheartedly recommend and this was my 234th Michelin meal so feel I can say that it was super! Credit to the team and a lovely pub setting

Food was great. However the staff wasnā€™t very positive when seating us, and didnā€™t tell us till after we had eaten that they had an all you can eat pancake offer on that day. So we had finished our dish then was told. And felt we had to grab the offer while we was there as they was unsure if the offer was staying. But glad I didnā€™t pay for the pancakes full price, they was dry and chewy. The main meal we had was amazing!!! Couldnā€™t fault that. But the staff need to be more attentive and explain more. The down stairs toilet didnā€™t work so had to go upstairs itā€™s great they had two but also an inconvenience for people with a disability.

A lovely restaurant with a bar and different combinations of seating type allows you to experience a different type of cosy get-together around the table. There is an upstairs area that I did not see and will try this area upon my return sometime. The food was of very good quality and was nicely presented on the plate. The service was very quick and politely done, and orders were dealt with very well by our waiter. The atmosphere was nice, and the decor a little bit off the wall, sort of industrial, i would say? I was disappointed when I ordered a drink with Brandy in it and was surprised they didn't stock it and had to settle for a whisky instead. I do have to say the bottled IPA was absolutely delicious and had a lovely hoppy, fruity tang to it, which went great with my beef burger! Outside seating available for fine weather conditions on the street, the pavemented side looks great at the entrance. There are toilets available in this establishment. Overall, it was a good evening out and a very nice experience in the restaurant in the Canterbury town centre.

The Beano Cafe

12 North Ln, Canterbury CT2 7EB, UK | Cafe
P: 01227 781528

Rating: 4.5 (309) Price Level:

Canterbury is brimming with history and charm, but sometimes a hungry tourist needs a good breakfast to fuel their adventures. That's where the Beano Cafe swoops in, saving the day with a breakfast spread that's as mighty as Dennis the Menace' scraper bike. My inner child did a little jig when I saw the name, and the menu did not disappoint. I opted for the classic English brekkie, and let me tell you, it was a full-on feast for a champion. The sausage were juicy and plump, they burst with flavour in every bite. The egg was cooked as expected, their golden yolks begging to be mopped up with the accompanying toast. The bacon added a salty touch, while the baked beans offered a welcome touch of sweetness. But the real surprise was the fried bread. Golden and fluffy on the inside, it had a satisfyingly crispy exterior. It was the perfect vessel for scooping up beans, mopping up egg yolk, or simply savoring on its own. The toast, perfectly toasted and generously buttered, provided a more traditional option for those who prefer a less adventurous approach. The Beano Cafe isn't just about the food. The entire experience is a delightful homage to the world of Beano comic books. From the quirky decor to the friendly staff who seem to have stepped straight out of the pages, it injects a playful energy into the breakfast routine. Whether you're a Beano enthusiast or simply looking for a hearty and delicious breakfast in Canterbury, the Beano Cafe is a must-visit. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is fun, and it's the perfect way to start your day with a smile. Just be warned, this breakfast is fit for a hero, so come hungry!

Good food and prices, conveniently located close to the city centre. I went to The Beano Cafe for a late morning breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, two slices of toast, a portion of chips and a can of fizzy pop. The cost was only Ā£7.00. The chips were particularly nice, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I would recommend this cafe. If you found this review helpful, please click on the heart icon, thanks.

Best place for breakfast, absolutely brilliant every time I visit. The coffee is the best I've tried in canterbury, not sure why it's so good but it is. I've been to most cafes in canterbury now and this is by far the best. The food is always hot and fresh, very little wait time, service is always spot on and one of the best places for prices. Seriously, try this place, at least for a fry-up if nothing else.

Oriole is the kind of find you selfishly feel you donā€™t want to share while wanting to shout about because they deserve to succeed. I spotted the discrete chalk board beyond Sainsburyā€™s car park beyond the cricket club doors and ventured forth. Walked in and felt ā€¦wow! What a breath of fresh air! Spacious seating looking out on Kent cricket green. Literally a small window cleverly left ajar keeping air circulation feeling fresh and covid safe. Loved my flat white with oat and tuna melt, served with small side salad. And where else gives you a glass of fresh water to wash it all down. If your local, be sure to get your Oriole loyalty card. Oriole is an welcome oasis on a busy day,

If you want a friendly country pub for a good quality meal you will struggle to beat the Mermaid. The warm cosy setting inside is enhanced by the lovely friendly welcome from staff and the other customers. We only called in for a drink, but stayed for food because of the atmosphere inside. The food choice is limited, but that means what is offered is great quality food. We had the fish and chips and the pie and mash, which was all beautifully cooked and presented. We had our dog with us and she also enjoyed the fuss from customers and the other four legged visitors in the pub. This is a proper country pub, like many villages used to have. We hope it never changes and will be back again soon. Thank you to the staff and customers for making this such a splendid pub.

Just had a wonderful Sunday roast. Even tho we didn't book, they found us a teeny table! Rating: 4.7 (971) Price Level:

Some of the best dishes I have ever tasted. A beautiful setting, attentive staff. Great wine list with plenty of affordable options by the glass, designed for experimentation. But the food is by far the brightest star. The savoury blue cheese cheesecake with beetroot jam is the most stunning dish I have tasted this year; and the flavour will be something I remember for years to come. Everything was excellent, but also deserving of special mention was the dark chocolate torte with hazelnuts blackberry sorbet. A stunning mixture of flavours, executed perfectly.

Went for lunch with my Mum, excellent service and very good value set menu. I had the flat iron steak with a side of delicious chips. Unfortunately my steak was overdone, I asked for medium but it was well done-I didn't mention it at the time-i'm sure they would have made me another if I made a fuss, but it was still OK. Mum had fish pie which she enjoyed. Treacle tart for desert was very good.

We had Sunday Roast here. The chicken was grilled to perfection. The beef was also very tasty but one piece tasted like lamb(?). Portions not that big, but in the end big enough. The Lager beer tasted like a top fermented beer but was good. Dessert then really made this meal perfect, especially the sticky toffee pudding! Coffee a bit too acidic for my taste.

Wow, what an awesome cafe! I work just round the corner at the university and have been meaning to try this place for a while. I was not disappointed! The decor and vibe of the place is very welcoming, and the service was impeccable. I ordered the set 2, which was great value for about 8 quid considering it includes tea and toast/bread. Every part of the meal was cooked perfectly and the ingredients are good quality. Sausage was nice and herby too which is just how they should be. Will definitely come again more regularly to support such a well-run establishment with superb food and value.
