It's a beautiful pub. in a great location. It is very clear that it is visited by the most fortunate in society, so you can enjoy not only the atmosphere but the class and elegance of the people around you. The food is your average pub food, not bad, but also not special. It you are lucky enough, you can get a table on the balcony, so you will have the best of the outside and inside od the pub.

Overall a lovely Sunday roast. Would say portions are slightly on the smaller side. I would say for ladies portion size fine, but for men, you may be left hungry with the roast. Was survived quickly and food came out quickly. Served by Andreja. £20-25 a roast £7 a pint £8 mulled wine Presume in the summer with the doors open it would be lovely as on the thames. Toilets need updating, smell of damp. Dog friendly.

Absolutely fantastic! Really neat traditional pub with circle bar. Good amount of table and chairs inside and out with amazing river views. Food is outstanding. Ordered the sausages and blue cheese croquettes - enjoyed every mouth full. Popular spot so safer to book

This has been a favourite place of mine for many years. Can never complain about any visit. Lovely spot for a few drinks or a bit to eat right by the river. Staff are amazing and go above and beyond hospitality service to make you feel welcome and relaxed. Sat at a nice table on the first floor veranda and had the native lobster and prawn eggs benedict which was superb.

Lovely addition to the area. I’ve been very impressed with the quality of food here. My partner has found that ingredients he has previously disliked, he now enjoys thanks to the dishes here. We’ve had to wait quite a while recently until we finally got to order our food, but that was a one off so far. Being from the South of France, it’s nice to have a french restaurant 2 mins from our home. The close location to the pond doesn’t just make for a lovely after meal walk, but also gave us the opportunity to see a swam family wanting to make dinner plans !

Food is consistent with most Cotes. The service at this branch isn't as good as others. The waiters aren't on the ball regarding customers needs and are slow to take orders we find.(Happened most times we go) It's a bit of a draughty barn of a place and not really cosy. It's never as busy as it could be for such a good location so maybe other diners feel the same. We want it to succeed but it needs to be tackled by management to give it a shock in the arm.

Really nice food, the simple dishes are so well done, and the service was first rate and relaxed for a lunchtime. Try and get a River view seat if you can. Hake was amazing and the Sticky Toffee Pudding made you want to lick the plate.

Unbelievable across the board. Everything was delicious. I can’t wait to go back. Fishcakes - unreal. We ended up ordering more! Only £5. Small but they pack a punch of flavor Oysters - wow. Huge, delicious. Loved them. Fish n chips - delicious and one of their main sellers. Also helps donate to a charity for a child in need. Service was quick and kind. Our only sad point is we weren’t by the main window open area to the river with views because we had 6 people. They seemed like they mostly fit 4. All good though, we will return. Oh how could I nearly forget - one of the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever had. Order 2 if you have 6 people, it’s worth it!!

The Red Lion, Barnes

2 Castelnau, London SW13 9RU, UK | Pub
P: 020 8748 2984

Rating: 4.4 (1194) Price Level:

I was the first customer after doors open in the morning (I'd been waiting for my car to be serviced nearby and wanted somewhere to eat that wasn't full of Burberry waistcoats and hooray henriettas!). I ordered the Club Sandwich and an orange juice. The young man who served me was very friendly, and as I had never visited this particular branch of Mrs Miggins' port of fare, he patiently showed me the way things were done there. The sandwich was very tasty and a good portion size. Some of the bacon was burnt and the chicken was cold, as was the plate, but this was balanced by the overall taste of the ensemble and the fries, which were hot - crispy on the outside, fluffy within.

Love this pub with its ornate Victorian decor, lending an air of elegance and style. Friendly staff and good food. Claire went out of her way to accommodate a small party just before Christmas, much appreciated. Only downside is it can be noisy due to its popularity in the evenings especially. Great outdoor space on terrace and garden in warmer weather too.

Nice food, good atmosphere and great selection of beers. I came there for cask ale beer and found out they also have a stock of vintage ales. They also have a big garden area which seemed suitable for a sunny day out.

We had a marvellous Thanksgiving dinner here last week - everything was tasty and abundant! A lovely range of dishes that represent different US regions. Despite the pub being absolutely full, they accommodated my request for a different table, and the service was swift and friendly. Claire has a lovely personal touch and came round to every table to check on everyone. Highly recommend!

Super pub and huge on the inside. Great outdoor garden and front patio area is also good for catching the sun and watching the world go by. Sunday roasts are a must as we had had many recommendations to try one which we did late last year. Our most recent visit was for a small lunch and drink. I had the chicken club sandwich which comes with triple cooked chips and it was excellent and very well priced. We also tried the steak sandwich again very very nice. The pub is super dog friendly with lots of water bowls and not too cramped inside. Only criticism is there was lots of staff members which can sometimes counter act how long you wait to be served, but the bar was very quick and we did wave down some one to help order our food but we're looked over a few times as I can only assume they thought we were already being served. Well worth a visit and will be back. Photos of my sandwiches 😋

Loved the food and it’s a great change since before the takeover. Service was impeccable. Perhaps slightly over seasoned but this is us being very picky. We don’t love that many places in London and this was love at first bite. Atmosphere a bit too loud but it was Friday night (albeit a lot of kids, I guess it was more of an unusual occurrence than normal)

What a find! Read about this out of the way pub and finally visited. Lively atmosphere, great selection of beers and friendly, efficient service from Jess and the whole team, all of whom seemed to be enjoying themselves. Food was excellent (had the skate) with a really nice bottle of wine. Might be tricky to get to but we will definitely be heading back very soon

Excellent pub nestled away down a quiet Barnes road. We went on a sunny Saturday and sat out the back of the pub that gets direct sunlight in the afternoon with a peach tree over-hanging the space providing some quintessential shade. We had the Ndjuja Pizza, Anchovies caper pizza, and a garden side salad. All three were delicious whilst having a refreshing pint in the sun. Will be back!

Not just the best roast I’ve had in Barnes but the best I’ve had in London in an extremely long time (maybe ever?). Roast beef extremely tender, flavoursome roast veg and incredible homemade Yorkshire, also extra cheesy and delicious cauliflower cheese side. Love to see an independent pub in Barnes and while the roasts weren’t cheap, at a time where eating out is expensive everywhere I’d much rather put my money here! Service was great too, thank you 😁

Officially the best food I've ever had in a pub. It sounds like I'm exaggerating it, but I'm not. Fish and chips was pretty damn good, and promise me, when you visit, HAVE THAT STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING. The other desserts may have more appealing names, but that sticky toffee pudding is what gave me sweet dreams that night. Yeah. It's that good.

Found this hidden gem of a cafe in Barnes after my walk around the neighbourhood a few weeks ago and since then, I have been going and looking forward to being a regular. This place serves the best tasting food in London no doubt! My favourite is their American style pancakes which is served with date butter (so so good, I always ask for an extra serving of the butter - its that good!) If you are looking for fresh salads, you are in the right place. Their salads are made fresh daily and all are locally produced. Another one worth trying is their wild mushroom folded eggs, - divine! Tried to order online through Uber Eats too, and even the food delivered still hits the spot! The cafe is really cosy too, quaint with emphasis on giving you homey vibes. The staff is always friendly whenever we go, and accommodating. They're always very willing to customise the dishes to suit your preferences. This cafe is perfect for health-conscious dining which doesn't compromise on taste. Its become my go-to spot for a guilt-free dine out. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Rating: 4.1 (214) Price Level:

Friendly staff, warm and cozy interior although the interior such as tables and chairs are looking very old and tired now. This Caffe Nero would benefit from new interior decor, or refurbishment. The hot chocolate that we had was very delicious and sweet, very good, the black Americano was a little burned but definitely drinkable. But generally a nice place for coffee in the Barnes area.
