Lovely friendly pub with a fantastic selection of ales and ciders. Gadds Black Pearl on tap made me a very happy man indeed. Owners were very welcoming. I will be back.

Lovely welcoming micropub with a selection of three cask ales available. They cater for cider drinkers too but I came just for the beer. The beer is very reasonably priced. At £4 a pint it is cheaper than the two other pubs I visited. I will come again on my next visit to Dover.

Jay is a friendly, old school landlord who knows his craft and has a great range of exceptionally well kept ales and an even longer list of local ciders. My good friend, who lives in Dover, has been telling me for ages what a great little pub this is and I wasn't disappointed when he finally took me there. I just wished I had this kind of place on my doorstep.

Really lovely cafe. I went for brunch with a friend and my daughter and we definitely wasn't disappointed! The pancakes were my favorite,so light and fluffy! I definitely recommend them ,but generally everything was delicious! I can't complain about a thing. It was a lot bigger inside then I thought, the seating was comfortable and lovely and it wasn't noisy like some cafes can be. The best part is it's in walking distance from my house so I will definitely be going back again. Thank you No61 cafe

Lovely brunch style cafe, good food/drinks, great portions and welcoming staff as well. Will definitely go back again. We loved to see they allowed dogs in as well, there was a cute little puppy next to our table which makes it even more appealing to us!

The food and coffee here are both excellent, though it is a bit on the expensive side. The place itself is really nice and well-presented, which adds to the experience. However, there was one issue that stood out to me. During a breakfast visit, someone brought their dog into the cafe. At first, the dog was sitting under the table, but then it started barking and growling at a child on the next table. After a few minutes, the dog jumped up and was sitting on the velvet seating next to the owner, and it stayed there. We were seated on the opposite side of the cafe, so it didn't affect us directly. But honestly, if they had been seated anywhere near us, we would have walked straight out the door, I don’t feel comfortable eating near animals in a restaurant or cafe—especially when they're sitting at the tables. We generally prefer to dine in places without animals around, so I hope this was just a one-time thing, It would be nice to keep coming back without worrying about unexpected dog encounters.

I don’t often write reviews as I’m usually too lazy however after visiting here I felt it was necessary I do one. For starters, when you walk in the place itself it is beautiful. Flowers everywhere and great photo op decor. They’ve hit the nail on the head with the decor and is super eye catching. Secondly, they greet you upon entrance and sit you down at a table which really uplifts the experience from a regular cafe to a proper restaurant. Server (owner) came over and asked if we’re ready and was lovely when we needed more time. When the drinks arrived I was gobsmacked. The caramel macchiato was SO GOOD and looked so freaking cool. The attention to detail was impeccable and it was just another regular cold drink served in a regular old glass. The drink itself was super sweet at first but it was a good burst to my senses but after a few sips was a more tame flavour. My boyfriend ordered a smoothie, it looked awesome as now expected and it also was so good. Wasn’t too sweet but wasn’t bland either. Food came and it was so yummy!!!! Presentation was really good also and fruit came on the side of my full breakfast which was a sweet surprise. Overall this place is a great place but also it is well thought out and an awesome twist on an English cafe and Turkish breakfasts.

We casually discovered this place and were amazed by what it is. Everyone is welcomed and anyone pay how much he can. Even though it is a a social enterprise, the quality of the food is very high. We ate a roll with bacon, eggs and sausages. Lovely! Volunteers were friendly and polite. You should try it!

La Salle Verte

Rating: 4.6 (377) Price Level:

The Best Coffee in Dover by a country mile. The staff here are great, friendly, and attentive, always ready to greet you with a smile. Whenever I visit, I always see a few familiar faces, indicative of the consistency of service. Could not recommend more. Food is simple Café food, done well (They stock Gluten Free Bread!), and there is a large selection of fresh pastries and cakes. Get in early because it fills up quickly, and if you visit in the summer, there's a beautiful, suntrap, courtyard garden out the back.

This is a lovely, lovely coffee shop, the atmosphere is warm, friendly and relaxed, the Manager/Owner and staff are calm and friendly and the place itself has 4 different seating areas - 2 are outside - the courtyard at the back is a delight. Super clean loos always a good indicator I feel - the whole place feels ‘loved’. Coffee is really good too … but the cake! Wow! THE best gluten free Lemon Cake (also choc brownie) I’ve ever had and so fresh! The icing on the cake is that they are SO dog friendly .. we really enjoy going there and so does our Teddie! Thanks for the doggy treats too!

A very tasty brunch, fresh with quality ingredients, not greasy at all. I had a vegan and my partner a full English brunch. We both left happy and very full, with a piece of cake and a sourdough bread to go 😊 The staff is very friendly too. It's not the first and definitely not the last time we will visit!

Excellent full English, happy to accommodate one change and what a delight to find a chef who knows how to cook tomatoes and add herbs to enhance. This is a rarity! The quality of ingredients was excellent, bacon nice and crisp as requested, delicious sausage. Friendly and warm service, clearly a popular place with some tables reserved. I asked for both my drinks (chai and flat white) to be extra hot. They were reasonably hot but not extra hot. I always ask everywhere I go because I can't bare tepid drinks! Highly recommended! Thank you 😊

I've never been able to get into the Gourmet Kitchen when I have visited. Folkstone, what just happened that it was quiet when we walked past today. The 4.7 rating on Google is very, very well deserved! Service is excellent, The atmosphere very convivial and the food is amazing. I have a soft spot anything with pastrami and gherkins and I was not disappointed with the lovely toasted sandwiches we ordered. The bagel avocado, mozzarella and roasted tomato bagel was epic 🙂. We will be back!

Updown | Hotel & Restaurant

Updown Farmhouse, Updown Rd, Betteshanger, Deal CT14 0EF, UK | Restaurant
P: 07842 244192

Rating: 4.6 (153) Price Level:

A genuinely friendly welcome and service can improve the dullest of venues, but Updown isn't dull. We visited for just one night and weren't able to take full advantage of the gardens, but appreciated the ambience that must be excellent in balmier times. The rooms were spotless and well supplied and we enjoyed the library and bar areas also; we just needed a longer stay to exploit all the facilites. Dinner was superb, as was the continental breakfast. One star was deducted (because there's no half) for additional service charges at food and drinks. Like another reviewer I'd prefer to tip separately.

Wow - what a treat! We stayed for the weekend at the gatehouse and enjoyed dinner on saturday night and a roast on Sunday. The food was great and the rooms / main house are beautiful and comfortable spaces. We were so well looked after by all the staff, in particular by Lia and the restaurant staff. We were visiting with our 1-year old who was made to feel very welcome. I would really recommend Updown for a getaway weekend - great for relaxing and recharging in the countryside, and enjoying some great food and cocktails. Thanks for having us - we will be back!

We had a wonderful stay at Updown Farmhouse on Sunday evening. We had Sunday lunch in the restaurant which was beyond amazing, totally recommend the roast lamb👌🏻there was also a magician called Josh who came round whilst we were eating, he was absolutely fantastic, so much so we took his card in case have an event, he would be a welcome addition to any function. We stayed in the farmhouse, room 3, which was beautiful, comfy bed and so spacious. Fabulous breakfast the next morning, a true 5⭐️ stay for us. Highly recommend to anyone. Thank you for making us so very welcome.

lovely short break close to DEAL, first time we had visited and glad we chose the Updown Hotel to stay. Easy parking and a nice place to just chill. We were in one of the cottages which was lovely. The staff were really nice and friendly although the chef could perhaps have taken a few happy pills as he didn't engage with any of the guests which is a shame. It was very busy in the restaurant for dinner which they must have been pleased about as it was a Wednesday evening. We would recommend it and would happily go there again and recommend to friends. Wednesday night was steak night but I made the wrong choice as mine was a bit chewy so I didn't do it justice.
