This has always been on of my favourite pubs in North Finchley. Sadly was closed for about 7 years but I'm pleased to see that it's now reopened with a fresh new look. They have nice looking food selection now, but for me and my pals most important is great staff providing friendly genial service. New bosses are a really nice couple and entertained us difficult customers while we sampled all the new selection of spirits. Will be hassling them again soon đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ‘đŸ»đŸșđŸșđŸșđŸ·đŸ·đŸ· Have subsequently hassled them again a number of times, they have now opened a new look beer garden and outside bar which is a fantastic sun trap. Also there are regular Open Mic nights which are a lot of fun. Love this pub 😍😍😍 Was another great open mic yesterday 😍

Had a Sunday roast there recently. The service was excellent and the food was really tasty. It was very good value in that it included a desert. It was only let down by the lack of vegetables. On my plate there was only 2 thin slices of carrot and one piece of broccoli. This was the same experience all round the table .

We needed somewhere for two adults, two kids and a dog to grab a bite to eat before travelling home after a busy day. We're so pleased we found the Malt and Hops! Very friendly welcome from all the lovely staff members and no problem bringing the dog in. Great menu with very reasonably priced options for both us and the kids. We all thought our food was delicious and the team were so attentive, always making sure that all was OK. The football was on which was great for our son. Really friendly atmosphere from the staff and the other customers, some were clearly regulars and we can see why. Thanks for being the perfect stop off, we will definitely be back next time we are in London :-)

The French Market - Whetstone

Rating: 4.6 (226) Price Level:

Wow , just wow. I went into this place by chance as I parked opposite it and thought I all have a look. And I ended up buying a lot of food. The quality of the baguette is exactly what you find in France the cured ham was better then any Spanish ham I have had. The butter was up there with the best I have had. In terms of food they don't have a huge selection but what they have is excellent. That staff are really friendly and nice they have French speaking staff as it makes the experience authentic. I will definitely go back

We used to live locally but have since moved away, and I wanted to place an order for delivery. The website didn’t have everything I was after so I sent an email listing the sort of things I was after and asked if they’d pick and post it for me. They got back to me the following day and Rease who we dealt with was so kind, friendly and attentive. He sent photos of the items he picked and again to show how it was all packaged. I’ve actually been really touched by the fantastic ‘old fashioned’ style customer service. It’s been a brilliant reminder of why we should support local small businesses. Thanks Rease, you’re a gem, as as it the shop as a whole. Thank you!

A place for all things French in North London - bakery and cheese items plus store cupboard items. Lots of jam, wine etc. I came here for the bakery - ordered the baguettes, croissants and chouquettes. The shop assistant offered 2 types of baguette - crispy and soft - I ordered both and the soft is still crispy! Both are good. I was keen to try the almond croissant but none when I visited on a weekday late afternoon. The plain croissant had good flavour and flakiness. There is good public transport - tube and buses - nearby. I will be back!!

Nice shop with French products from cheeses to meat products to jams etc. They also have a bakery inside, and there is a nice wine selection. The variety in the bakery was pretty nice but the cheese and meat products selection was pretty modest in my opinion. It was also clear by some cheese slices that they spent a lot of times waiting for their buyer. Prices are pretty high. It’s one of few spots with French products in the larger area though

Fantastic customer service, delicious food and tasty wine. Prawns in garlic butter were tender and fresh, chicken liver pùté was light and full of flavour and cured meat platter had nice selection of meats. Primitivo red wine was fruity with a very slight sweet aftertaste and their house white refreshing and easy to drink. Tiramisu and polenta lemon cake were also delicious. If I want to fault only one thing , I would say fried calamaris were a bit chewy and rubbery however, not greasy which is really good. They offered us amaretto on the house which is really a nice gesture from the restaurant.

We were around in North Finchley for a play at arts depot when came across this gem of a place for brunch. Their salad bowls tempted me to go inside but the menu had a lot of my favourite breakfast dishes so I ended up ordering Shakshouka that tasted quite similar to how I cook this dish at home. Do try it! The baguettes were delicious too. Staff here were super attentive and friendly with great sense of humour. It was good to see them all enjoy their work and try to put a smile on everyone’s faces and maintain great vibes. Highly recommend visiting here. Although it’s out of the way and we don’t normally go to Finchley but we might go again just to enjoy some breakfast here.

Great Rodizio restaurant. We frequent the branch in Mill Hill but as it was overbooked, we managed to get to this branch. Same fantastic selection of meats and salads and great service. You are bombarded with choice and definitely need to pace yourself or you will bust your gut. Be warned. Carnivorous glorious!

El Vaquero is located on the High Street with ample parking. Step free access, entering from the street level. Transport links are excellent, with local buses situated just outside. The restaurant is a good size. The decor is nice. The food is definitely for meat eaters. This is a buffet style service. You grab your salad & vegetables sit at the table, and the meat comes on skewers with garlic bread and chips. The meat choices are beef, lamb & chicken. All the meats are seasoned well with a variety of marinades. You can choose how you want your beef & lamb cooked. Excellent value for money as you can eat as much as you want. This place is family-friendly. The pricing is very reasonable considering the amount of food & quality. Overall, it was an excellent night out.

The food was amazing Lots of food, quality meat, and a lot of variety of selection. The top was the dessert marshmallow and pineapple. The service though unfortunately was a set back. We ordered drinks and they forgot about us and then I ordered glasses with ice again they forgot and then I asked for a bit more fillet beef again they forgot. They fixed everything at the end though with free coffees and extra desserts.

Ah, Friday – that glorious gateway to the weekend! After a week that felt like wrestling an octopus (more on that later), it was time to unwind with good company and, naturally, even better food. Our friends, the wise food whisperers that they are, suggested a little gem called La Lluna for tapas. Off we went, and let me tell you, it was a night of flavor, fun, and a few culinary curveballs. The Scene: La Lluna greeted us with a warm, well-lit ambience and a bustling vibe. The staff? Attentive, friendly, and clearly in on the secret that tapas = happiness. With tapas, the joy is in sharing, and share we did – to the point where the table resembled a battlefield of empty plates and satisfied sighs. The Dishes: Cured Meat Platter: A trio of cured meats with picos. Not bad, not spectacular either – but to be fair, I’ve had the crĂšme de la crĂšme of Spanish bellota, and that sets the bar quite high. This was more of a polite applause than a standing ovation. Croquetas De Bacalao: Golden balls of salt cod fried to crispy perfection. Pair them with the brava and aioli sauce, and you’re in for a tasty ride. Would I have fought over the last one? Absolutely. Patatas Fritas (aka Patatas Bravas): A tapas staple, these little fried spuds were delightful. My only wish? The brava and aioli sauces should’ve embraced the potatoes, not stood shyly on the side. Come on, let’s mix and mingle! Gambas Al Ajillo: Ah, the piĂšce de rĂ©sistance. Three succulent prawns lounging luxuriously in a garlicky, olive oil and chilli bath. Not too spicy, just enough heat to get you salivating. Pro tip: get the chargrilled sourdough and use it as a sauce mop. You’ll thank me. Chargrilled Sourdough Bread: Sure, it came with its own olive oil and chilli dip, but why bother? The gambas sauce is where it’s at. Dunk with enthusiasm, ignore the original pairings – this is what bread dreams are made of. Pimientos Del Padron: Simple, classic, delicious. Just one critique – a tad more sea salt, and we’d be singing. Bombas: These deep-fried potato balls stuffed with beef, onion, and herbs were little flavor bombs (pun intended). Gorgeously plated and even better on the palate. Tortilla Clasica: Sadly, the night’s biggest letdown. First of all, lose the garnish – it added nothing but confusion. And I like my tortilla a bit runnier, but that’s just personal preference. Could it have been better? Yes. Was it tragic? No, but my expectations were higher than the omelette. Paella De Marisco: A hearty seafood paella that brought the taste of the sea to our table. Generous on the portion, which is good because we were five hungry souls. However, a rogue clam or two had some gritty sand – a bit of a party crasher, but we powered through. Pulpo A La Gallega: The octopus, tender and beautifully cooked, paired nicely with thyme-marinated baby potatoes and a sprinkle of sweet paprika. Again, what’s with the garnish? Courgette Flowers: Tempura-battered and stuffed with goat’s cheese, drizzled in honey. I’ll have to trust the look of delight on my friends’ faces here, as I have a longstanding feud with goat’s cheese. But visually, they were stunners. Churros: Ah, dessert. A plate of golden-brown churros with a decadent chocolate sauce. All seemed perfect until we took a bite. Sadly, a bit undercooked in the middle – a churro faux pas that left us mourning what could have been a glorious end to the meal. The Space: Don’t be deceived by the modest frontage. La Lluna stretches back further than you’d expect, with an upstairs and even a cozy outdoor area equipped with parasols and heaters. And bonus – they welcome your furry friends. In conclusion, La Lluna was a delightful escape from the grind, with a few hits and only 2 near-misses. If you go, make sure to bring friends – because tapas are best when shared (and because you’ll need someone to stop you from ordering more gambas).

Dinner at La Lluna is an experience that instantly transports you to the heart of Spain, even though you're right in the middle of London. From the moment you step in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere makes you forget the hustle of the British city. The authentic dĂ©cor, with rustic accents, feels like a traditional Spanish tavern, and the soft traditional music in the background enhances the feeling that you've arrived in a sunny corner of southern Spain. The menu is a true celebration of Spanish cuisine. We started with a selection of tapas, all impeccably prepared – crispy and spicy *patatas bravas*, and fresh chipirones ( we are in love with this) with alioli souce. Each bite was an explosion of authentic flavors, just as you would expect in any *taberna* in Barcelona or Madrid. For the main course, we opted for a *paella de mariscos*, and it was an excellent choice. The rice was cooked to perfection, absorbing all the rich flavors of the seafood, with a light crispy layer on the bottom, just as it should be. The seafood was fresh and plentiful, with every bite carrying that distinct taste of the sea. The glass of Spanish Sangria, recommended by the waiter, paired beautifully with the meal. The service was impeccable – the friendly and attentive staff, fluent in both Spanish and English, were always available to suggest dishes or the perfect wine to complement the food. The vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere makes you feel at home, as if you're on a spontaneous trip to Spain without ever leaving London. In conclusion, La Lluna is the ideal spot for anyone craving a culinary escape to Spain right in the heart of London. It’s a place where you can indulge in authentic food, enjoy a lively ambiance, and experience the warmth of Spanish hospitality. I can’t wait to return!

I have, mostly, my english breakfast there for over 25 years! Cafe is family run and they do remember most of their customers. Take me, he knows I like my toast, white & lightly toasted, eggs sunny side up, tea is light etc. Better still is that you don't see a layer of oil in the plate when all the food is fried, except the bake beans. đŸ€Ł. Is it worth the money? Personally, it is a YES! Oh, they do more than just breakfast. Bon appetit when you decide to visit! Just don't be one of those customers who are very 'picky' over very small things. Place is clean as are the tables and seats. Oh, I do at times bring my dirty plate and cup when I go to pay, not at busy times as I will be a hindrance!.

The food was so delicious, the service was great and the restaurant itself is beautiful and clean. We had the set menu which is 2 courses for under ÂŁ16 (bargain!) I'm a vegetarian so I had the Zucchini fritters to start and the Vegetarian Moussaka for my main. Both were delicious and the portions are very generous. I also had a gorgeous pomegranate mojito. My daughter had the chicken shish and as you can see there was barely anything left. Thank you for a wonderful lunch!

Fabulous restaurant serving food full of flavour in a restaurant close to Totteridge and Whetstone station. Staff are friendly and accommodating, plenty of choices for vegetarians like me! Opted for the veggie platter to start with (swapped the fish for olives) and for main course I went for the vegetable moussaka which was a big portion, I couldn't finish the rice. Definitely recommend, you will not be disappointed I will definitely return.

Great breakfast and price. My husband had the standard breakfast and requested no black pudding they gave him another egg instead which certainly wasn’t expected definitely my go to place on a tip run. I would also feel very comfortable as a woman going on my own great place for food when you are waiting for the garage to replace your tyres

Lovely tidy cafe. Staff are always friendly. Good home cooked meals. Menu varied and able to change to suit own preferences. Sit in and take away.

Picked up a couple of sausage and bacon cobs on the way out from the recycling place, easy to park, staff were friendly and the cobs were great!
