Recommended by some friends who live locally. Extensive menu, although it was pizza night so we chose off that menu. Very tasty, and the side portions (chips, onion rings, garlic bread) were HUGE! Great selection of drinks as well. Does seem to be busy, so may be an idea to book ahead. Planning a return visit for a Sunday Roast! đ

Had a meal for 2 here. The food was lovely and there were good gluten free options, including calamari. I also had the cheeseboard without crackers and it was huge and delicious.

We use this cafe regularly over the year, never disappointed.. Hadn't managed to visit for a few months due to life taking over but returned this weekend as usual and everyone remembers you, such friendly staff and me and my daughter always feel welcomed. Food always lovely and well cooked too. I would find it hard to imagine anyone wouldn't enjoy the experience Well done and keep it up team. đ„°

Whether your starting or completing a local walk or Cycle or Just visiting the town I can recommend The Poets cafe as a great cafe for Tea, Coffee or good english Breakfast. The cafe is named for its proximity to the former homes of Thomas Hardy and William Barnes among others and its current poet in Residence David Caddy. You will be hosted by Yasser who has owned the cafe for many years and is happy to answer any questions about touring or visiting the area. Ask him about the local wines... Well worth a visit,

Excellent flat white, the cinnamon rolls were amazing, and the sourdough bread looked so good we bought a loaf to take home (let's see if it makes it back in one piece).

Delightful bakery offering lovely cakes and marvelously smelling pies and sausage rolls. Great coffee. Sat in the window seats to enjoy our choices while a stream of locals came in to buy takeaway or eat-in food. We were only passing through, but this stop cemented the town as a worthwhile place to remember for any future trips.

Oxford Bakery is located in the center of Sturminster Newton. My wife and I had breakfast here while visiting from America. The staff was very friendly! We had a jam doughnut, a cinnamon roll, and a mocha latte. Everything was delicious (especially the doughnut)! We would certainly return.

I am not sure where to start. The food is fantastic, its tasty, well seasoned, well cooked. The portions are amazing, the menu choice is so much that you will keep coming back for more. It is a long time since I tasted East Asian food this good. I will certainly be going back on a regular basis. Highly recommended.

I had a lovely meal at this hidden gem which had been recommended by friends. The portion sizes were more than adequate! Home made burger & chips. Luscious Eton mess.

Booked the Plough for my daughterâs 21st Birthday. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. We had a variety of dishes cod and chips, mixed grill, steak, wellington and Jamaican Christmas Cake. The food was fantastic. Served quickly and efficiently. The pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas, such a warm and welcoming atmosphere all round. Would definitely highly recommend.

The Plough hosted my small running group for Sunday lunch today. It was our first time and we were absolutely delighted. A really lovely and atmospheric pub with excellent food and great service. They could not have been more welcoming. The Chocolate Orange cheese cake was particularly good. Many thanks and will definitely be back. Lex

Good pub food, well priced. Used to go to this pub 50 years ago and itâs nearly as good again now as it was then. Took my 10 year old grandson and he was treated like an adult, which was nice! Had the rib eye steak, but we will be going back to try other things on the menu. đ

Went with my sister ( a local ) and daughter and granddaughter. Food was really lovely. Highly reccomend the quiche. The play area is safe and really well laid out. If you are in the area it is well worth a visit. We live over an hour away but do make a beeline for Blackmarsh Farm when visiting. Staff are lovely too.
Rating: 5 / 5
Good location on the edge of Sherborne to let the kids run and play while you sit comfortably in the old farm yard with a cake and coffee or maybe a light lunch.

An amazing maize, maze one of the best around. What a pity it's the final maze this year. A wonderful attraction for all the family with all the usual facilities including a superb little cafe. Play area for younger children and very reasonably priced. Staff extremely friendly and helpful adding to the experience. The maze is open all summer until early September so get in there quickly for a brilliant day out!

A great find today in the middle of a long car journey with the dog. We ordered the chicken supreme off the specials board and it was hands down the best meal weâve had in a restaurant in a long while. Succulent chicken, delicious creamy sauce, crisp broccoli, and perfectly sautĂ©ed cherry tomatoes on (cooked twice?) roasted new potatoes ( I think đ€) đ Worth every penny âđŒđ Thanks

Tasty food from a small menu. This was the most delicious pork burger with a spicy twist. Sadly not available on our second visit or I would have ordered it again! Delicious lemon cordial and their date flapjacks were also a tasty teatime treat for later.

This pub is the perfect balance of upmarket/boutique and having a homely feel. The food is outstanding quality, and our waiting staff (Minty) was excellently attentive. It was our first time there, for a romantic Saturday night date. This place did not disappoint. Plenty of car parking space. The finer details were beautiful - candles and fairy lights everywhere, water jug filled at every table, salt and pepper holders filled, a fluffy throw behind my chair, heating on, music on but not too loud. Our bill was ÂŁ78, for two courses and a bottle of wine. Overall, a really fantastic pub!

The Saxon Inn was quite a surprise - in a good way! We had been given mixed reviews about the restaurant but we found it warm, attractive and the food was exceptional. The staff were extremely friendly and the lady head chef/owner came out and had a chat with each table and some of the locals as well.
Rating: 5 / 5
The Saxon Inn has become our favourite pub! We've enjoyed many lovely meals there, from Sunday roasts to delicious evening dishes. Itâs the perfect spot to relax after a country walk, especially on sunny days when we can sit outside with our dogs and enjoy a drink or by the fire with some bar snacks. Itâs always so welcoming, excellent service, and tasty food - couldnât recommend it more!

People who truly care! The owner and her daughter went above and beyond when I was unable to find a taxi to a nearby train station. Besides that it's a characterful, comfortable inn situated in a beautiful part of the world. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend đ
