The Fox Inn

8 West St, Corfe Castle, Wareham BH20 5HD, UK | Bar

Rating: 4.4 (569) Price Level:

Had a couple of good value meals here. Very prompt service, though recommended to make reservations for meals as it's a very busy place. The cheese sauce on the cauliflower needed to be cooked out for longer, and the base of the huge batter pudding was slightly doughy, otherwise really good and substantial meals.

Such a lovely garden with an amazing view of the castle. Service is friendly and quick. We had drinks, chips and other nibbles but have had meals before and the food always tastes delicious and freshly prepared and the prices are very reasonable, especially for the level of quality. A visit here is a must for us when in Corfe.

Lovely pub, a stones throw from Corfe Castle, which serves an excellent quality Sunday lunch until 8pm ... booking advised, it's very popular! You can get a table for anytime in the afternoon to allow you a good day out doing whatever you want first. The meat is bought locally and the gravy was amazing 👏🏻 lovely big garden. Highly recommended

(Total score based on 6 visits 93%) 1 = poor 10 = excellent Welcome 9 Atmosphere 7 Cleanliness 8 Service 7 Speed of serve 7 Attentiveness 4 Food quality 7 Value for money 8 Drinks 8 Go again: yes CAPS are because I am copy and pasting from menu Great welcome, like going around a family home. We mostly know what we wanted to order, the starter spot on very nice we had the SMOKED SALMON & KING PRAWN DUO Very much enjoyed CAMEMBERT & CHEDDAR MUSHROOM FONDUE great but less sauce than previous visits. For main we both opted for DUCK CONFIT with GLAZED SPROUTS (topped with crispy smoked bacon) We both very much enjoyed this, the jus was spot on could not fault any of it. Albeit maybe the side missing its ‘topped with crispy smoked’ was not that I would rate is down, but some might of sent the meal back for this, (if it is on the menu!). Dessert Disappointing but edible and ok. BAKED VANILLA CHEESECAKE* (V) served with a mulled fruit compote and fresh cream My guest asked if the compote could be served separately, as they did not know if they would like it, it was put all over the cheesecake and she didn’t like it, also never got the fresh cream as stated on menu What I had (in advance) picked from the menu was not on it on the day, so opted for an orange flavoured curd with light mouse… not sure what I got, more like orange flavoured white chocolate ball with a light mouse in the middle. Was not great, and not how the menu read; and more like a children’s dessert… Why put out a Boxing Day menu months in advance and still have it on website today, if things are not on it or not served? Over all staff were great, food was very good… just a wow factor (or even being asked if everything was ok; at any point) missing around the edge.

Had such a lovely evening celebrating birthdays - the food was really good; we were a party of 10 and every meal was excellent, both in taste, quality and portion size. The staff were super attentive, and the place itself really relaxed. Would definitely recommend, and hope to go back soon 👍🏼☺️

Dessert was Eton mess and lemon tart all good. Server was Kate excellent and was attentive and helpful. Not a cheap lunch but very enjoyable. Will definitely be back.

So... A while back I came here and I was so pleasantly surprised of the vast changes. Firstly the service, 360° change! We had the most fantastic waitress, accommodating, nice , kind and professional, everything was made simple and being a Large table of 11, it was all done in a breezy way. The food was lovely, delicious actually, all arrived quickly and boiling hot, large portions and nicely presented as well. The place was packed but still felt tidy and spacious and even with all the people at the bar everything was super fast. I'm terms of atmosphere we had a lovely and comfortable time. We had drinks, mains and desserts and the total came to £27 so not expensive compared.

We had a very nice time at the Lamb's Green Inn at lunchtime today. Neither of us were really that hungry but felt like getting out and eating somewhere different. The car park was busy but had some spaces which I saw as a good sign on a Wednesday at around 1:30pm. The place was immaculate and the beer garden looked inviting, although we chose to eat inside and grab a feel of an old English pub ambiance! My other half enjoyed the Madri beer on draught and I had the mint & lime cordial with lemonade. Very nice. As we were so not-hungry, I ordered a roasted vegetable wrap with salad & husband got the 3 for £10 bar snacks: whitebait, shredded crispy chicken & halloumi fries with chilli jam dip. The food was lovely overall, however, we were both a bit put off by the whole whitebait with head & eyes clearly visible. We just couldn't go there!! The staff we were served by were just so friendly and welcoming and it was reassuring to know we have a good⁹ pub with good beer & food on our doorstep. Highly recommended! Thank you, Lamb's Green Team. Just one quick question: Yorkshire tea is okay but why do you not serve Dorset tea to help promote our beautiful county? Just a thought? 🤔

Have had a couple of Saturday evenings at The Old Thatch recently. Lovely food (Venison pie, fish pie and apple & berry crumble with custard), efficient and friendly service and accommodating to a large friendly dog, who was happy to receive gravy bones and a bowl of water. Good beer, including real ale on tap. Busy, but everyone seemed to be having such a good time - so much to recommend and will definitely be back there again soon. Thank you for your hospitality x

I had the Apple and berry crumble, which was delicious too. There is plenty of free parking. I would recommend this place for Sunday roast.

The Old Thatch in Stapehill, Wimborne, Dorset, a 17th century pub which sits directly opposite historic Stapehill Abbey has a very warm and welcoming feel to it, from the roaring fireplace to the friendly smiling staff. My wife and I decided to try this place out as we had heard great things, and we were not disappointed. We had not booked, but the staff found us a lovely cosy corner next the fire. The seating was very comfy and I could have stayed all afternoon. The staff was very attentive and a drinks order placed within a few minutes of sitting down. After a quick study of the menu the waitress brought over the drinks order and took our food order. The starter arrived in good time and it tasted fantastic, fresh and full of flavour, once finished the waitress wasted no time in clearing our plates and again the main course arrive shortly after hot and freshly cooked. The mains were perfect, the pie was great and the vegetables cooked to perfection, crisp and full of colour. The deserts followed and again food heaven. So what does this place score for us. Atmosphere, 5 stars Service, 5 stars Food quality, 5 stars Price, 5 Stars

Gorgeous cream tea after a visit to Corfe Castle! Staff even brought a dog water bowl to the table for Maxipoos. Stunning view of the castle as you dine.

Cosy establishment outside Corfe Castle. The cream tea was very reasonably priced at £6.55 and consisted of a choice of plain or fruit scone, a hot drink, ready made jam and cream. You have to order at the front desk and the tea took around 7 minutes to arrive. We also ordered a cheese scone which was delicious and I would highly recommend it to combat the sweetness of the jam and fruit scone. Hot and cold sandwiches are also available after 12pm as well as gluten free options. The tea room had a homely vibe with a wood burning fire perfect to quell a brisk winters day. Note that seating is limited so it’s best to arrive early to avoid waiting. Dress code: casual Cost: £ Service: very efficient Ambience: cosy

Pleasant place for Sunday lunch and not expensive. However the meat serving in the roast is very thinly sliced and the portion of veg for two was small and limited. I’d say it was suitable for older folk but this should not be confused with a carvery so if you’ve got a hearty appetite, this might not fill your hole. Having said that, it was reasonably priced and the service was good with helpful and pleasant servers.

Beautiful place to go for a stroll with much of the area covered by a forest canopy. Lovely little café which was reasonably priced with an amazing outlook onto the lake. Took a pram with my newborn with a fairly accessible route around the Blue Poole. Many of the other trails have steps to access so will use a baby carrier next time.

Rating: 4 (1742) Price Level:

We visited the Fox & Hounds today with family (5 of us) for an early festive meal and were not disappointed! Our first visit in over 40 years and the whole place has been re-decorated and fitted out to a very high standard while keeping the nice warm & traditional feel an establishment like this deserves. We were greeted and well looked after throughout by their friendly staff. We all made selections from the festive menu and the food was well prepared and presented and very tasty. The location is brilliant for us when getting together with family so we will certainly be returning.

The pub is under new management. Decent sized car park. Despite signs at the entrance warning you to register your car at reception or risk a penalty charge, you no longer have to do that. Perhaps they should take the signs down? We pre-booked over the telephone and this was doing using an AI program. Sat in the corner of the large dining space which was well lit. A few candles dotted around for "atmosphere ". Drinks order was taken immediately and soon arrived. Abbot Ale was fine. Food was fairly quickly ordered with a wait as the kitchens were busy. Meal arrived in good order. Steak and Ale pie was heavy on gravy light on meat. Nevertheless a proper plateful. The manager was keen to point out a new dogs' garden facility he had just created. Would I go again? Yes.

Dog friendly with a large enclosure for your dog to run around in, there is water and toys for them to enjoy. The food is lovely and well presented we had a family birthday party there with two pets and was given an area at the Saied because of the dogs or we can go outside.. I felt it may have been slightly understaffed as it took awhile to clear our plates apart from that we enjoyed our visit and loved the dog enclosure (even the dog treats they gave us)
