This is our local so we may be biased, but it has had its ups and downs over the 20 years we've lived in the village. This incarnation is the absolute best so far. Lovely atmosphere, great pub food, and really great landlord and chef. Well done guys.
Rating: 5 / 5
Dinner at the Chalk and Cheese far exceeded my expectations. The food was excellent quality, with an attention to detail way beyond the modest price. The mackerel pate in particular was superb. Saxon was rightly proud of what he’s creating at the pub and there was a lovely atmosphere.

Lovely village pub with excellent food and service.

We had a delightful dinner here whilst on holiday in Dorset. The fish and chips were especially outstanding - the batter was crispy throughout and good chips. The steak and ale pie was packed full of super tender meat with a well seasoned gravy, with lovely mash and veg. Sirloin steak cooked to perfection with a lovely fresh side salad and delicious peppercorn sauce (the onion rings were especially delish also!) Desserts were excellent also, and plenty of treats on hand for our dog. Highly recommend this gem of a village pub!

The Old Tea House
44 High W St, Dorchester DT1 1UT, UK | Tea House P: 01305 263719
Rating: 4.6 (264) Price Level:
What a beautiful b&b with plenty of history. Owner was very informative about the old tea room and surrounding area. She was also the most amazing host, so friendly, kind and welcoming. Made us feel like we were at home. Breakfast was amazing with a great choice of cereals, pastries, yoghurt and then cooked breakfast. The cakes and scones are a must when visiting....tasty! There is a plaque which says " come as guests leave as friends....we have definitely left as friends.
Rating: 5 / 5
Sensational afternoon tea with amazing scones. We also really appreciated having several gluten-free options too. But best of all was the service. So friendly and chatty with plenty of history about the building and town. Can't wait to return!

What a lovely and welcoming tea house in the heart of Dorchester. Whether you‘re stopping to sleep, or just for tea / breakfast / food (we did both, one year apart! 😃) , Debbie will make it a memorable experience! The house has extensive history and Debbie is well versed in it, so ask what interests you! We will stop here every time when we‘re passing nearby!

I meant to review this amazing place as soon as I left! We went in the beginning of November, I’d just missed the Halloween decorations apparently. It’s such a beautiful tea room, I hoped it was haunted and yes! Wasn’t disappointed, the lovely owner had lots of stories to share, such a sweet, wonderful lady who couldn’t have been any nicer. I wish she would adopt me, even asked if she’d consider it!? xxx Please visit and support the sweetest and most charming of places and please do pass on my love, from Tania from Bournemouth xxxxxxxxx

I meant to review last wkd after we left. Lovely tea rooms and the lady serving was so friendly. Another customer was chatting to me and it felt so cosy. The poached eggs were perfect. I will be bringing my family for a cream tea very soon.

The Duchess of Cornwall
12 Queen Mother Square, Poundbury, Dorchester DT1 3DD, UK | Restaurant P: 01305 757569
Rating: 4.2 (1632) Price Level:
So lucky to have this fabulous pub as our local! The staff are fantastic and go out of their way to offer great service. With a Welcoming and friendly atmosphere, stunning surroundings and pretty decent food it’s no wonder this pub is busy. The only negative is they don’t take cash which is pretty outrageous.
Rating: 5 / 5
My partner and I spent the New Year at the Duchess of Cornwall Inn and had an enjoyable stay. The room had plenty of character, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. We also dined at the hotel's pub/restaurant, which was a nice experience. Conveniently located in the heart of Poundbury, the hotel is just a short stroll from Dorchester. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience.

We booked an area upstairs for my son’s 1st birthday celebration with our friends and family. The pub was decorated so nicely for Christmas and it had a lovely atmosphere. The food was amazing. Staff were professional, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We can’t wait to visit again soon

George Albert Hotel
George Albert Hotel, Wardon Hill, Dorchester DT2 9PW, UK | Hotel P: 01935 483430
Rating: 4.4 (325) Price Level:
The George Albert Hotel was a real gem. Nestled in the Dorset countryside the staff are really friendly and welcoming. The rooms are very well appointed and have plenty of space. Ours had a bistro table and chairs, as well as a small sofa and desk with a chair. Food was fantastic, prepared by head chef Tom and his team. We also loved the Arcadia spa, run by Michelle. Treatments were extremely relaxing and plenty of space to chill out (or warm up in the thermal suite). All in all a wonderful stay for our wedding anniversary. There are also great functions rooms for conferences, seminars, weddings and parties.
Rating: 4 / 5
My parents and I stayed at the George Albert on the way to see family in Sherborne. We found the rooms to be really comfortable and clean, very spacious and with lovely additional touches like tissues, tea, coffee etc. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the evening meal was very nice. The continental breakfast was a bit basic for the amount we paid, but we would definitely return here again when next in the area. Thanks!

The best gluten free food I have ever had. Top quality chef who really goes above and beyond. Great staff and rooms. Highly recommended.
Rating: 4 / 5
Staff were attentive and friendly but discrete. They worked hard keeping the coffee topped up and tables cleared quickly. Lovely airy atmosphere with plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by. Wish I'd had time to check out the spa. Easily accessible from Dorchester and Yeovil. Plenty of parking. I would be pleased to book this for an event or an overnight stop.

PiP Café and Meeting Hub

Rating: 4.4 (148) Price Level:
Brilliant sandwiches and drinks, the cafe is clean. The staff aren’t that kind.
Rating: 4 / 5
Staff are okay, not overly friendly, but not not nice. Always quick service, reasonable prices, and nice hot cafe style drinks and cake/ pastries. It's not a fancy place, it's a casual place to chill. Good with a child/ baby. And good before/ after a walk round the great field. We got a hot drink each and a croissant.
Rating: 5 / 5
Excellent place to go for warm and freshly-made food and drinks. It's at a great location and when the park opens up, it will be the ideal spot for everyone. Definitely recommend going. I also work here and the staff and the customers are always so friendly and both parties are always so understanding no matter the circumstance.

Well managed little gem in the heart of the park. Great spot for a coffee and a chat whilst watching the children play. Can't fault the place

The Frampton Arms
Station Rd, Moreton, Dorchester DT2 8BB, UK | Pub P: 01305 852253
Rating: 4.4 (1146) Price Level:
My bestie Jane and I visited Moreton church, a beautiful tranquil place. We decided to be ladies that lunch and stopped at the Frampton Arms where we had a lovely lunch. The pub has a charming atmosphere, where the staff are chatty, friendly and our food was delicious and at a reasonable price, well worth a visit.
Rating: 5 / 5
On arrival, after making a online booking, we were nearly turned away as staff said there was no reservations in our name, we had to prove it was booked from our online correspondence. Staff then found us a table, but advised us we had to go because that table was booked out at a certain time. We had our main meal, but didn't have a desert as we would have outstayed our welcome, only to find that upon leaving most of the restaurant was practicly empty, very disappointing. Apart from the above, the food and service was very good.
Rating: 5 / 5
Lovely place, nice spacious rooms with air conditioning, decent telly and comfortable bed. Very clean and tidy, with a nice powerful shower. I really had to dig deep to find any fault with the place, and the only thing I did find wrong was that the toilet roll holder was was a bit loose. The continental breakfast had a good range of food, and was a nice way to start the day.
Rating: 5 / 5
What a lovely place! We stayed here for 1 night. The room was so cozy and clean, the shower was fantastic. Sunday roast dinner and bread pudding after were absolutely delicious. Continental breakfast in the morning, which was free, had a great variety and assortment of yummy things. The stuff was very courteous and pleasant. Highly recommend!
Rating: 4 / 5
Just had a two night stay here at this beautifully presented pub/b&b. Staff were friendly and helpful, always polite. Room was clean and had everything we needed. It’s on the train line which doesn’t feel intrusive. The food was really nice in the evenings (didn’t eat lunch there), we were a big group one evening and there were two small issues but they were sorted. The first morning, arrived to breakfast and it wasn’t ready and staff didn’t know why, they quickly sorted it out tho. The only downside for us was breakfast, as there is no hot option.

The Blue Pool
Furzebrook Rd, Wareham BH20 5AR, UK | Tourist Attraction P: 01929 558150
Rating: 4.4 (2303) Price Level:
Beautiful place to go for a stroll with much of the area covered by a forest canopy. Lovely little café which was reasonably priced with an amazing outlook onto the lake. Took a pram with my newborn with a fairly accessible route around the Blue Poole. Many of the other trails have steps to access so will use a baby carrier next time.
Rating: 5 / 5
Went there as part of a new trail race and a great location. The pool is still blue all year so never disappointed, but obviously better when weather is clear. Great walks around. Good cafe. Well family priced.
Rating: 5 / 5
Lovely scenic spot that's well worth the visit. Very relaxing and pretty. Nice place for family, kids, dogs or just pleasant walk round on your own. Cheerful, friendly and helpful guy in ticket office and pleasant staff in cafe. Thoroughly enjoyed the place. Nice little plant shop, Ice cream shop and gift shop. Easy access loos. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Lovely place for a day out. Walks were clear and easy to stroll. The rope bridge was great fun. The views across the pool are stunning in a number of viewpoints. I guess when the azaleas are flowering it is absolutely beautiful. There's a nice cafe and lovely gift shop. I only wish we had visited before but will be back again before long

The Smugglers Inn

Rating: 4.4 (3298) Price Level:
If you're looking for a cozy pub that delivers on all fronts, this is the place! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxed Sunday afternoon. The Sunday roast here is absolutely top-notch. The portions are generous, and the quality is superb. What really sets this pub apart, though, is the service. The staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. From the moment you walk in, you feel right at home. They’re attentive without being intrusive and always make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your meal. Karli served us today and Hebe greeted us. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a hearty Sunday roast in a charming, welcoming setting!
Rating: 5 / 5
I was on a one night walking break and feeling a little out of sorts. A lovely lady Hebe really looked after me and made me feel so welcome. I called in for a snack and coffee but booked a room. The amazing hospitality continued the next morning with delicious breakfast and Ellis really looked after me. I’ve only been away once on my own before and they really gave me confidence to do it again.

Just back from a fabulous 2 nights here. What a lovely place, would highly recommend to anyone thinking of going. We were made very welcome and the staff were so friendly. The food was lovely and my husband said especially the breakfast. I'm sorry I didn't get one of the managers names who spoke to us this morning, just after breakfast, but she was so nice and a credit to The Smugglers. We will be back.

We’ve just returned from a wonderful two-night stay at The Smugglers Inn. On arrival, Lloyd greeted us and made us feel welcome instantly - before any money had even exchanged hands he made sure we were ‘fed and watered’ after our long drive. Nothing was too much effort for any of the staff…. Special mentions to Rafaela our waitress,Ella, and the bar-staff who really looked after us. The Sunday lunch was fantastic, great menu in general and a great breakfast spread! The room was spotless, cozy and well-equipped. It was my partners birthday and they went out of their way to make it special for him. We would definitely recommend staying here and we have already talked about returning one day. Thanks again to ALL the staff for making our stay so special. Sam and Phil

Happened to go in for dinner after hearing from a friend that it had reopened and definitely wasn't disappointed, the food was beautiful and i enjoyed it thoroughly as was the atmosphere which i always look for when dining somewhere. You can tell that alot of love and care has definitely been put into this place after it was closed for so long and it was definitely worth the wait will definitely be returning for both food or just a drink by their gorgeous log fires.I would just like to end on the service by the servers was impeccable I hope to be returning for many years to come.definitely recommend 😊 thank you for the best date out I've had in a while.

Just left the inn after a very enjoyable lunch. We got there about 1 o'clock and found it fairly busy but enough tables to cater for other people who came in after us. We had to wait a little while for our meals...but it was worth it. I had the lasagna with chips which was one of the more reasonably priced meals on the menu. Very tasty and too large for me to finish. The young lady who served us was very pleasant. The place is very clean and caters for all tastes...although I didn't see a menu which gave you the option of sandwiches if that is all you wanted (had open sandwiches though). Would definitely go again😊
