White Hart Alehouse

Market Cross, Sturminster Newton DT10 1AN, UK | Pub
P: 01258 472558

Rating: 4.6 (200) Price Level:

Brilliant pub with a great range of drinks, unfortunately on our last visit there was not enough staff behind the bar and possibly due to this they could not switch lighting on outside. As a group of 6 there was nowhere to sit inside which meant we didn't stay as long as we had planned. We look forward to visiting again in the future as the atmosphere is the best in town.

We stopped in to while visiting from out of town. We spent a pleasant evening in the outdoor space in the back. We were there on Tuesday so no food was available. The bartender was very friendly. I had a beer and a gin and tonic. The gin and tonic was very nicely made. We enjoyed our time here.

During these Covid times, this has been very worrying for a shielder, but this pub has done everything great, we were sat outside under a marquee and I thought I’d be cold, but a gas heater was out by us, which was very warm and lovely, we had a drink and food, which all was delicious, it was so nice and warm, I was able to take my chunky cardigan off, due to being nice and toastie. The service was great, very polite and friendly, there is an outside bar and the beers were on tap, they do Earl Grey Tea, which I don’t like, so I had water, the good was presented well and was really nice, the atmosphere was great to, not many people and we all had our own table, I was able to be calm and not worry at all. It’s definitely a nice pub and the dogs made it for me, being a dog lover, very friendly and enjoyed a good cuddle.

Oxford Bakery is located in the center of Sturminster Newton. My wife and I had breakfast here while visiting from America. The staff was very friendly! We had a jam doughnut, a cinnamon roll, and a mocha latte. Everything was delicious (especially the doughnut)! We would certainly return.

Excellent flat white, the cinnamon rolls were amazing, and the sourdough bread looked so good we bought a loaf to take home (let's see if it makes it back in one piece).

My favourite coffee shop / bakery!!

Rating: 4 / 5

Went for breakfast and the food was really good and a step up from just bacon and eggs. It was cold in there though so didn't feel you could relax. I was a bit disappointed as last time I went they had amazing custard donuts and sausage rolls etc that stood out but the bakery offering seemed quite run of the mill this time.

Delightful bakery offering lovely cakes and marvelously smelling pies and sausage rolls. Great coffee. Sat in the window seats to enjoy our choices while a stream of locals came in to buy takeaway or eat-in food. We were only passing through, but this stop cemented the town as a worthwhile place to remember for any future trips.

Went here for Sunday lunch as a group of 10 and the food was exceptional. Everyone was very happy with their food, we had a mixture of pork, lamb and beef orders. Desserts of crumble, Sundaes and waffles were also of a high standard. Staff were lovely and chatty and had a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Would recommend a visit and hope to be back in the area soon to visit again!

A great find today in the middle of a long car journey with the dog. We ordered the chicken supreme off the specials board and it was hands down the best meal we’ve had in a restaurant in a long while. Succulent chicken, delicious creamy sauce, crisp broccoli, and perfectly sautĂ©ed cherry tomatoes on (cooked twice?) roasted new potatoes ( I think đŸ€”) 😋 Worth every penny âœŒđŸŒđŸ˜Ž Thanks

Good pub food, well priced. Used to go to this pub 50 years ago and it’s nearly as good again now as it was then. Took my 10 year old grandson and he was treated like an adult, which was nice! Had the rib eye steak, but we will be going back to try other things on the menu. 👍

The food was fantastic. Served quickly and efficiently. The pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas, such a warm and welcoming atmosphere all round. Would definitely highly recommend.

They could not have been more welcoming. The Chocolate Orange cheese cake was particularly good. Many thanks and will definitely be back. Lex

I purchased a fridge, freezer and washer dryer for my first home from Marsh’s, and even though there were a few complications along the way, they were quick to rectify the issues with their exceptional customer service. Recommended by some friends who live locally. Extensive menu, although it was pizza night so we chose off that menu. Very tasty, and the side portions (chips, onion rings, garlic bread) were HUGE! Great selection of drinks as well. Does seem to be busy, so may be an idea to book ahead. Planning a return visit for a Sunday Roast! 😁

The Saxon Inn was quite a surprise - in a good way! We had been given mixed reviews about the restaurant but we found it warm, attractive and the food was exceptional. The Saxon Inn has become our favourite pub! We've enjoyed many lovely meals there, from Sunday roasts to delicious evening dishes. It’s the perfect spot to relax after a country walk, especially on sunny days when we can sit outside with our dogs and enjoy a drink or by the fire with some bar snacks. It’s always so welcoming, excellent service, and tasty food - couldn’t recommend it more!

This pub is the perfect balance of upmarket/boutique and having a homely feel. The food is outstanding quality, and our waiting staff (Minty) was excellently attentive. It was our first time there, for a romantic Saturday night date. This place did not disappoint. Plenty of car parking space. The finer details were beautiful - candles and fairy lights everywhere, water jug filled at every table, salt and pepper holders filled, a fluffy throw behind my chair, heating on, music on but not too loud. Our bill was ÂŁ78, for two courses and a bottle of wine. Overall, a really fantastic pub!

The Saxon Inn is a truly beautiful country inn, full of charm and character. Each little area, corner and nook is styled and curated to perfection, and the special little attention to details really elevates this place above what you'd normally expect from a country inn. Every turn reveals an almost lnstagrammable moment you'd want to capture. The welcome from the hosts Sarah and Richard couldn't have been more friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. They really were consummate hosts and you could just tell they'd put their heart and soul into place and genuinely cared that their customers not only enjoyed their stay, but loved their stay. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean and comfortable. The cooked breakfast in the morning was delicious and the fresh fruit and doorstep toast was amazing. Real coffee, real butter, and locally sourced products made this a breakfast to remember. My partner and I didn't have an evening meal at the Inn when we arrived but really regretted it when we tasted the breakfast the following morning. To add even more character to the place, the Saxon Inn also has two other permanent residents, the beautifully-docile and aloof Reggie (a gorgeous whippet), and Herman , an independent little dachshund who parades around wearing a bandana. Overall, it's a superb place to stay and eat. We'd highly recommend it.
