Fantastic Sunday roast and great selection of draft beers and ales. A lovely touch also from the landlord to pop over and introduce himself too as we hadn't been in since he took over. Will be visiting again.

Popped into the Fox and Hounds, Denmead for an impromptu roast. The landlord, Chris, was very accommodating and although they were busy and we were just passing through, they made space for us. We had wonderful roast pork and beef dinners. Loads of cauliflower cheese which was gorgeous too!

Couldn't fault the team, really friendly staff and a wonderful atmosphere. The landlord shared he had some exciting plans for the place and wanted to deliver quality food. Based on our visit I’d say he’s doing an amazing job! We will definitely book ahead next time though as think he’s going to be really successful and very busy.

Adding a bit of an edit on here. We went in again today in October as we enjoyed our meal so much before. The service was crazy slow this time. Table booked at 415 and didn’t receive our mains until 530. What made things worse was after a hour and a quarter of waiting three of us who ordered roasts didn’t have Yorkshire puddings as they had run out (we were surprised by this as not a difficult recipe esp given the time we had waited). The staff were very apologetic and discounted our drinks but we were left feeling a little sad. Overall a lovely meal again well cooked and great portions just very slow service and running out of food simply isn’t what you’d expect having booked a table for a set roast menu.

We have visited The Fox and Hounds pub in Denmead twice for lunch, and our experiences have been mixed.

During our first visit, we ordered the ribs and a cheeseburger. The ribs were fantastic, served as four massive pieces in a delectable sticky sauce. However, the cheeseburger was quite the opposite; it was undercooked, potentially cooked from frozen, resulting in an unpleasant jelly-like texture. It was inedible, but to their credit, we received a refund. We hope that others do not encounter the same issue.

Our second visit saw us sticking to the ribs, which we had enjoyed previously. Unfortunately, there was an issue with consistency. This time, there were fewer ribs, and the sauce had changed to what seemed like a red wine sauce, lacking the sticky texture we previously enjoyed. While the ribs were still served with salad and fries, there were numerous raw spring onions scattered on top. This was not mentioned on the menu, and while I had no problem eating them, my wife dislikes raw onions and found this addition unappealing.

The Fox and Hounds is a community-saved freehouse with significant investment. While we found the drinks satisfactory, the inconsistency and quality of the food left us disappointed, and we have decided not to return for meals.

Overall, the atmosphere and drinks are commendable, but the food, unfortunately, fell short of expectations.

Haven’t been to the fox and hounds for a while but heard there was a new landlord so thought we would go back and see if it’s any better. It is very much far better now than it was. the food was amazing, I had the lamb shank and it was perfect. The atmosphere was great and it felt very welcoming. Previously we always felt hurried out the door but now under the new landlord we felt relaxed and could enjoy our time there. He even came over and had a chat with us to see how we were getting on. Absolutely spot on and will 100% be going back in the future. It will be our meeting place when all back in Denmead for our meet ups.

Having grown up on School Lane, of course we know the Fox very well.
But I don’t think I can remember a better experience over the many years than myself and my friends had this Sunday. Great friendly welcoming service and atmosphere, and even better food. We are so happy to recommend our local pub to all our friends once again.
