This place makes one of the best cappuccinos I’ve ever had —truly delicious and unique. Additionally, the shop’s supervisor is incredibly helpful. I had an issue with the loyalty app, and they spent several minutes working on it without hesitation. In the end, they managed to resolve the problem. I was extremely satisfied both in terms of service and taste.

Popped in for a coffee and Bakewell Tart. Excellent and not expensive. Great service and clean. Just at the top of Guildford so not too busy at 2.30pm. Quite a lot of estate agents grabbing a coffee. Probably quiet with over inflated rents and house prices 😉

FANTASTIC. Called into Esquire Coffee for a coffee and a bite to eat. Great cup of coffee and a tasty tuna melt. Delicious. Staff really friendly and professional. I will definitely go back when I’m next in Guildford.

Fantastic evening sat at the bar. The staff are all well presented and very personable adding to the experience. The decor is as expected from The Ivy brand, exceptional. But the food is the main event. A starter, a few small plates and a main to share was ideal. Check out the cocktails, the Paper Crane was a favourite with the bar tenders putting on a show

This venue has been on my to visit list. Heard so many positive feedback reports. Well the atmosphere, very attentive staff but not over the top. Staff friendly helpful and very smart. Made the evening flow perfectly. The decor is different and again adds to the experience. Cocktails oh yes, I do love my espresso martini and it hit the button….shame it wasn’t a pint it was to yummie. Food, with some hep on portion sizes from the staff, several dishes selected, all of them very tasty, sufficient portion sizes to go with the number of dishes. Then a visit to to toilets - the men’s !!!!! Let’s say it is different in a good way I left with a smile on my face. Overall great location, food, staff and ambiance. Would I go again, most definitely

1st time here celebrating my daughter's birthday - it was good but not great. Food tasted great, but portions sometimes very small (as expected), and very expensive (as we thought it would be). Service was attentive, but they forgot the odd dish, drink order etc. We were told the 1/2 crispy duck would feed 2-4 people, but it only fed 2 (so some of us missed out). Overall it was great for a special occasion, the decor and atmosphere was great, but felt overall it could have been a bit better, considering the price. Wouldn't rush back.

The cafe is called Triggers it was lovely. Its a typical greasy spoon with all the regular full English foods. Everything was cooked well and it came out quickly. But what really stood out was the service. We'd had a particularly bad night with the newborn and we just wanted a bit of easy eating. The owner, very kindly, held our baby whilst we ate. It meant we could have a small break and really enjoy our food. This place is 10 out of 10. We will be eating there again soon. P.s. I dont think baby sitting is part of the service but we were, and still are, very grateful.

A tasteful older building with pleasant decor and lighting, and a garden, just outside Guildford on the main road through Shalford. Friendly and helpful staff, though our table was behind a wall, and e found it hard to get their attention at first! Lovely pizza, and a pleasant healthy panzanella salad, though the salad could have been better presented maybe. The main thing I liked was the sense of humour of the staff. And the music was set just right, and not too obtrusive. I visit every few years. Maybe a little bit of decoration necessary to bring the place up to scratch. But generally nice and relaxed, and fairly stylish.

Food and atmosphere all ok, as you would expect from a up market chain of restaurants. The staff can make or break a premises and the tall barman, I think his name was Tom certainly helps make the Seahorse a place to return to, professional, attentive and very likeable. On a separate note my wife and daughter were more taken with how good looking he was. Many thanks to all for a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Absolute lovely dining experience. We were served by a young chap with curly hair called Lewis who was very attentive and made sure we were always catered for👍. All the food was delicious so really do try as much as you can. Everytime I think “heavens above” as us old folk like to say, when in fact it's right in front of me on that plate.

We had lunch as a large extended family group. The service was excellent and could not have been better. All of the food was delicious and well presented, apart from one main dish that was not great. However, when we informed the staff member who served us, they immediately offered to replace it or give us a free dessert, in the end the cost of the meal was removed from our bill. Overall the dining experience was wonderful, the food was tasty and well presented and the staff were great. We will definitely return and I would definitely recommend The Seahorse.

The cosy club which can take a thousand guests 😂. As big as the venue is, the way it is decorated really makes it cosy. You can come here in ones and twos or tens and twenties. We had breakfast and it was super tasty and had a lovely variety to choose from... Not just the run of the mill items. Staff were attentive and friendly. Lovely vibe.

I was wandering randomly around Guildford when I stumbled into the Cosy Club. The atmosphere from the bottom of the stairs and all the way up is magical and cosy! Wood paneling and cool photos make this a place well worth hanging out in. They had a great gluten free menu which made ordering easy. I got the bacon salad and every bite was super delicious. My only criticism is that it felt a little small for the price. But overall I had a really wonderful experience and would be back again.

Visited on a Friday, late afternoon, nice vibe and well decorated for Christmas. Managed to get through 3 bottles of Prosecco. I would have preferred table service if I'm honest but no queues at the bar so not too bad. Bar staff could do with being more friendly. We recommend this place for pre-dinner drinks in central Guildford.

A popular cafe which offers takeaway and eat in. We had sandwiches and tea. The sandwiches were made to order, with plenty of filling 😋. My husband used the facilities, he said was clean, but downstairs. I'm not sure if there's a disabled toilet that is on the same level as the cafe. Staff were polite, and we didn't have to wait long to be served. We called in at lunchtime.

Great coffee and very quick and friendly service. Got dropped off here by a friend to then catch a train from just around the country. Felt very welcomed by conter staff . Lovely simple Bacon sandwich freshly cooked. This place is immaculate! Great place for breakfast before getting on the train.

Location by the river is a great addition to Guildford and very good wheelchair accessibility. There is a large car park right next door , so parking is not a problem. The Boathouse is a fantastic little cafe tucked away by the river. They clearly use high-quality ingredients, and it shows in every dish. Their breakfast is a real treat - the sausages are packed with meat, the spinach is perfectly seasoned, and the hash browns are crispy little bites of potato goodness. I particularly loved the English breakfast. The sourdough toast was delicious, the eggs were cooked to perfection, and the whole meal was just really well balanced. The cafe itself is lovely, with great views of the river. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a delicious breakfast.

An impromptu meal between two meetings ! What an absolute find. The service was seriously fabulous. We were accommodated without a reservation even though it appeared to have no room in the Inn, but the manager jiggled things around knowing we had only an hour and found a table for two in a little corner assuring us our food would be with us very quickly. ( it was very quick) Our waitress was superb without being on top of us all the time. Well the restaurant was so busy it would have been impossible to be too attentive although she kept a keen eye on all her service area. I felt like it was a modern carvery as you could have a top up of any veg gravy etc Generous servings , and tasty ! But with super service and food not being grappled by the other customers. You get what you pay for, it was great food, superb service and a buzzing atmosphere! Will definitely be going back and it’s not even near home Thank you for accommodating two hungry visitors x

I've been eyeing The March Hare every time I visited Guildford Castle. I live near the town centre, so I do that a lot. I finally gave it a try when my Australian friend came to visit me. She wanted the experience of a proper British pub lunch, and honestly, this place delivered. The moment we walked in, the warm, cosy vibe was the first thing that hit us. It’s the kind of spot that makes you feel right at home and ready to settle in for a nice, leisurely meal. But the real standout? The staff. They were just so friendly and welcoming—it made the experience even better. At first, I ordered the French onion soup, not realising it had a bit of alcohol in it. I took my first spoonful and felt something was off, so I asked the staff about it when they came by to check on us. They immediately double-checked with the chef and confirmed it for me. What impressed me was how quickly they offered to replace the dish with something else, which they did—it felt like they genuinely cared. The food overall was delicious and hit the mark for that British pub experience my Aussie friend was looking for. She ordered the duck, which she absolutely loved. The menu had a good mix of classic pub dishes and some fancier choices, so there’s something for everyone. One thing to keep in mind: if you’re someone who doesn’t drink, it’s worth asking about alcohol in the dishes, as it’s not always clear from the menu. All in all, The March Hare offers two floors for a memorable dining experience is a fantastic spot for a relaxed lunch or dinner. I visited the Ivy Castle View with a couple of work friends for a social lunch. The decor in this place is quite striking and nicely executed, with the bonus of having a view of the old castle from some of the tables. I have read various reviews complaining about the service, but I have to say from my experience that this was pretty good, being neither slow or rushed, despite the restaurant being fairly full. The food is quite expensive overall for gastro-style cooking, and adding a few side dishes to the main courses soon cranks up the meal cost considerably. That said, there are plenty of choices on the wine list at reasonable prices, and everything we ate was nicely prepared and presented. The roasted scallops starter with the truffle and parmesan emulsion is worthy of mention as a stand-out dish. Likewise, the soy-glazed blackened cod is well worth trying. Overall, this was a pleasant, if not somewhat pricey, dining experience.

The whole experience was exactly what I've come to expect and love from The Ivy - creative and tasty food served with a smile in a beautiful setting. We went for the festive set menu and no complaints from any of us. Our server (unfortunately didn't catch their name - hooped earing, we sat on the banquet in the far left corner near the windows 1800-2000) was an absolute dream. Highly recommend. Actually out of all The Ivy's I've eaten at, I think the service here has been the best.

My family and I dined here for lunch today and really enjoyed our experience. I booked our table using the Ivy Rewards App which was quick and convenient and I was able to earn rewards points for our visit. We received a fabulous and warm welcome from Toby which set the scene for a great lunch. We were seated in a corner booth which was comfortable and had a beautiful view of Guildford Castle. We dined from the 1917 set menu (£19.17 per person) which we found to be exceptionally good value for the quality of food provided. Service was also lovely from the wonderful Hector who was very accommodating, friendly and professional. All in all, it was a super lunch in a beautiful venue with great service and good value. We will definitely be returning. Thank you to all of the team for a wonderful day.

I recently visited The Ivy Castle View, and it was such a great experience. The interior is warm and inviting, with a laid-back vibe that makes you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in. The staff was incredible—there were so many people taking care of the patrons, and it never felt like anyone was left waiting for anything. The bartenders were spot on, super friendly, and knew their stuff. They had a great selection of local beers and drinks, which was a nice touch. The food options were impressive, with something for everyone. I went with the chicken skewers, and they were absolutely delicious—perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. My only tiny complaint is that I wish there had been four skewers instead of three because they were so good! I also tried one of their local lagers, and it was a great pairing with the meal. One of the highlights of the place is the third-level patio overlooking the castle. I came in here the other day for a cup of coffee which is very nice. They had lots of treats on offer and I ended up buying a slice of treacle slice when I got to the till I realised the treacle slice was £5.50. It was very nice and worth it but it did make me question at £1 per bite. Is it overpriced overall though this is a very nice coffee shop and I know I will definitely be back

Very friendly and helpful service. Amazing ham & cheese croissant, not to mention the chocolate & hazelnut croissant. Everything looks and taste very fresh. Exquisite coffee. Very tasty smoothies. Will definitely come back. Thank you 😊

Customer service is variable, one of the other comments here is right; often the ovens are switched off way before closing time so heated up food isn't available. In addition, at times it's untidy, with sticky tables and looks in need of some proper TLC. On one occasion I ordered a jacket potato with cheese and when it arrived, it was as if it hadn't even been warmed up. After being "reheated" at my request, it came back to me with all cheese missing, just a hot potato, I had paid for potato and cheese. Went for a quick cuppa at 4.05pm today and it was closed and in darkness when on the door it said shuts at 5pm. I don't mind this, but there was no note on the window to let people know what the opening situation is. This place really needs someone on site to ensure consistency of customer service in all senses, since at its best it's really good. Two new cafes have opened up locally, Esquires now has nearby competition.
