Popped in after a day out in Cromford. Lovely building, very gracious staff who greeted us as soon as we walked in, making us feel very welcome. Prices were a bit high at first glance but the quality and portion size warranted them once we saw our plates. Food was made with care and served by very attentive staff.Will be back to enjoy a meal in the outside seating area when the weather cooperates.
The pub is just a couple minutes off the A38, with two sizeable car parks front and back.

We really enjoy coming to the excavator as it is always a warm and welcoming environment. The staff are always friendly and helpful and accommodating when showing us to tables that we prefer rather than some others. The attention to detail is wonderful whether it be the food, the atmosphere, or the staff. The staff are really attentive and checking on us making sure that we have everything we need and that we are enjoying our visit. It is very well decorated. Love the local theme wallpaper showing off its local heritage in the area.

We visited as a couple and had a choice of tables when we arrived which was nice. Since our last visit the interior had been updated and there was a new menu. We had the vegetarian macaroni cheese and the chicken and mushroom pie which was on the daily specials menu. It was a bonus that on Wednesdays (when we visited) a pie main course came with a free drink. Both main courses were delicious. For dessert we opted for a Black Forest sponge with ice cream and a raspberry trifle cheesecake and both were really good. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and we were made really welcome by the servers. I definitely recommend a visit to The Excavator.

We wanted to try somewhere different so booked the Excavator. The mixed grills we ordered were amazing and the triple cooked chips were the best I’ve had . All this combined with friendly service made for a wonderful dining experience. Definitely will visit again.
