It’s not every day that a meal leaves you with such a lasting impression, but my recent visit to The Windmill in Clapham was nothing short of extraordinary. The food was exceptional—each dish expertly prepared and full of flavor—but it was the service that truly made this meal stand out. And that service was a masterclass, thanks to Lucy.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this was going to be a special experience. Lucy greeted us with a warmth that immediately made us feel welcome, and her enthusiasm for the menu was contagious. She didn’t just take our order—she took the time to understand our preferences, offering thoughtful suggestions and sharing her own passion for the food in a way that felt personal and genuine.

What truly set Lucy apart, however, was her impeccable timing and intuition. She seemed to anticipate our needs before we even had to ask, always ensuring our glasses were full, our courses arrived at the perfect pace, and that we had everything we needed without ever being intrusive. It was as if she was reading the room, creating a seamless flow to the evening that allowed us to focus entirely on enjoying the experience.

Her attentiveness never felt forced or overly attentive; it was just the right balance of presence and grace. Whether it was checking in with us after each course or simply offering a smile as she refilled our water, Lucy made sure every detail was taken care of with a level of care that made us feel truly valued as guests.

If you find yourself in Clapham, I highly recommend a visit to The Windmill. While the food will certainly impress, it’s Lucy’s service that will leave you talking long after the meal is over. It’s rare to encounter service this exceptional, and it’s what will keep me coming back again and again.

Stayed mid December for 3 nights. Great room. Bonus to have free parking on site. We didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that.
The Windmill is a popular pub - Grade 2 listed, and it has a nice comfortable atmosphere. We had dinner 1 night which was perfectly ok but nothing extraordinary. Vegan burger was bland and a bit disappointing. Fish and chips was good but could have done with a few more chips on the plate.
Pub location is great and only a short walk from the tube. Overall a nice stay but room for improvement with the food.

The pub had clearly thought about Christmas dinner they asked diners to order in advance. Then when we arrived there was a little note reminding us what we’d ordered. The table was beautifully decorated with sustainable ornaments they made themselves. We were eating early 12 noon which is too early but they didn’t hurry us which was much appreciated. My starter was smoked salmon and it was delicious. We both then had turkey. Everything was lovely except for the roast potatoes which weren’t crispy enough the Christmas pudding plus ice cream was gorgeous all through the service was impeccable just enough. It was valued for money and we enjoyed it.

We had a party of three with a baby for Christmas lunch and it’s a lovely pub inside. Service was fine and attentive, the food was a good four stars but not quite at five. They were very accommodating with the baby and the pram too which we appreciated. A good pub and well worth a visit
