The Anchor Inn
High St, Wingham, Canterbury CT3 1BJ, UK | Pub P: 01227 720392
Rating: 4.6 (619) Price Level:
This is one amazing Oldie but Goldie pub filled up with interesting photos on over the walls and antiquity surroundings complete with outdoor seating and a smoking area. The food of which I had was the best steak & kidney pudding in my life and my misses had a huge pork succulent chop, both served with creamy mash and fresh veg, both were very plentiful and really delicious, hence the empty plates The service was fantastic including the young girl (well younger then me) was rushed off her feet, made you feel very welcomed and gave you and a busy restaurant 100%. This place was alight with happiness and that wasn't only due to a brilliant service, great food and good music but people were talking to each other and hardly to none mobile phones, people were polite with no weatherspoon type reckless regulars trying to get a cheap beer if you get my point and my favourite was this cozy corner with a log burner with two sofas that surrounded it to relax with a coffee to finish your meal. The toilets were lovely and clean and didn't smell at all which is just as important as the meal itself, the price was definitely worth it for what I paid which included two puddings and a couple of drinks. All in all I give this restaurant 10/10, worth the 45 min drive to get there were guaranteed return visit very soon.

Popped in for lunch after staying at Canon Hall Cottage for the weekend. Had three courses for £16, white bait starter, liver and bacon main, and Jaffa cake sponge for puds. The lady that served us was lovely, and the pub itself is beautiful. There's a surprisingly large outdoor space. Would come back if in the area :)

I had last night homemade leek & potato soup excellent. My mains were lambs, liver & bacon mashed potato, a selection of fresh vegetables. They were like mums dinner. And a pint of local beer Heart of Darkness.

I really enjoyed my Sunday roast. I had soup to start and then roast chicken with stuffing. The meat was tasty and the veg well cooked. I'm not a fan of cauliflower cheese with a roast, but that's personal preference. The building is old and character-full and the staff very pleasant. Definitely worth a visit.

Extra 2 squeezed in for a delicious Sunday roast with all accoutrements and 3 extra boats of gravy. Lovely staff and atmosphere. A must visit for holidaymakers

Have just had my Mother’s 100th birthday celebrations at Christies Wine Bar and Sue and the staff were amazing. They could not have done more to make the afternoon so special. They were all attentive to our needs, allowed us to decorate the room and were there to ensure everyone’s needs were met. The buffet food was fantastic and everyone was catered for. Thank you so much for everything.

Had a smashing roast dinner today, no scrimping here, delicious, flavoursome, and great choice. Friendly attentive staff. We'll be back for another visit. Recommend cocktail slushy.

Went with friends today for food and I have to say it was amazing and well priced I never struggle to clear my plate but I came close today because the portiion was very genrous....however the flavour was só good I had to persevere to the end

The best thing about this place was the people! Really good service from our waitress and the owner. It’s a locals place but they were very welcoming and Id definitely return. Roast was great especially cauli cheese and potatoes- the veggie option could do with a bit of improving however.

Tenterden Grill
25 High St, Tenterden TN30 6BJ, UK | Restaurant P: 01580 388090
Rating: 4.3 (74) Price Level:
Not really a dine-in kind of venue even though there are 2 tables and chairs provided. The pizzas, and it seems everything else, is made fresh while you wait. Or you can phone in your order for collection. Our pizza's were out of this world! The base was cooked crisp but not burnt. The cheese melted perfectly and the toppings very generous. Both were served with a relevant sauce on the side which added to the great experience. We will DEFINATELY return to try other menu items.

The Cow Shed Bar & Grill
3 The Square, Birchington-on-Sea, Birchington CT7 9AE, UK | Restaurant P: 01843 847777
Rating: 4.4 (643) Price Level:
Came here for the Bottomless brunch offer at £40 for food and cocktails/beer (90mins). The food is divine! I don’t even like ribs but they were heavenly 😋 They were really forthcoming with the drinks and you didn’t feel limited. We wizzed our way through all the Xmas themed cocktails. Grinch a firm favourite. The staff really friendly and served us drinks continually. No waiting around. Place has a lovely setup. Lots of other themed nights and events. Highly recommend.

Have been here a few times. Sometimes have had to wait a long time for food, and only one toilet (I think!), but the Sunday roasts are absolutely fantastic. Today's no exception. Vegetables a lovely medley of curly kale, leeks, and then roasted parsnip and carrot. Tasty meat, and roast potatoes, and Yorkshires excellent. Slightly smaller portion than last time, but that meant you actually had a chance of eating it all! Friendly staff. A good visit.

We had our Christmas dinner here and would highly recommend. Service was incredible, food was next level and just overall experience was top notch. We've never had Christmas dinner out and this didn't disappoint! 100% would recommend

Attended the mamma Mia afternoon brunch and I can highly recommend. The food, drinks & atmosphere was next to none! Had an absolutely amazing day! Thank you the cow shed xx

Well....the Cow Shed smashed it!!! You always know a place is good for a roast when their potatoes and veg are cooked well. The amount of places I've been to where we've been served dried up undercooked veg. We had Christmas dinner here, the meat was tender and not overcooked in the slightest, the potatoes were crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle and the veg was cooked just right for me. The portions were very generous. We also had amazing sausage meat stuffing, big pigs in blankets and delicious cauliflower cheese. Just to top it off the Yorkshire pudding was lovely. We also had a starter and pudding which were tasty. We actually took food home as we were so full. The staff were lovely and friendly. Couldnt do enough for us. My 2 year old niece wasn't happy as she didn't get brought her own plate of food (she doesn't eat loads so shared a bit of everyones). Well the lady realised this and brought her over her own little plate of food and my niece was thrilled. Overall it was a lovely time, brilliant atmosphere and a great Christmas!

Hoof & Hook Tenterden
43 High St, Tenterden TN30 6BJ, UK | Hamburger Restaurant P: 01580 854650
Rating: 4.3 (284) Price Level:
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hoof and Hook in Tenterden, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. We started with the Kentish Mini Tacos, and they were absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and a perfect start to the meal. The blend of local ingredients really shone through in every bite. For the main, I ordered the Hoof Burger with fries, and it was perfection on a plate. The burger was juicy, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection, while the fries were crispy and golden, just the way I like them. We also had the Asian Ribs , which were a delightful surprise—tender, packed with a rich, savoury glaze, and bursting with a perfect balance of sweet and spicy flavours. The combination of incredible food and warm, attentive service made our visit unforgettable. Hoof and Hook is definitely a must-visit if you’re in Tenterden! We will most certainly be back.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is an update: The meal we just had was beautiful, Staff polite courteous and informed . A real pleasure to eat here! Be prepared for large portions , I didn't. The nacho starter was as good as a main meal and really tasty. I had the bourbon ribs and couldn't even start the second one. Staff were quick, pleasant and attentive . The place was really busy and had a quick turnaround of tables. We weren't rushed in any way but do recommend booking especially at weekends. RECOMMEND.

The Hoof & Hook is Situated in the heart of the historic town of Tenterden in the middle of the High Street in the building that was formerly Café Rouge. It has had a complete makeover, not just in its appearance but also the menu. The food is absolutely excellent, very high quality and beautifully presented. I had a "Hoof Classic" burger with fries and it was was delicious, cooked to perfection and the portion size was spot on. Probably one of the best burgers I have had in years, it consisted of two beef patties, cheese, lettuce, pickles, cheese and bacon all served in a really nice bun (sorry I missed the photo). My mother had the King Prawns (pictures attached), she said that they were probably the best King Prawns she had ever had. The service was outstanding and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend the Hoof & Hook. 10 out of 10 guys and keep up the excellent work, looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

We had a really lovely family meal (in. Dog) we accidentally booked for happy hour and enjoyed a few cocktails with our meal. Food was delicious and the service was super friendly! The pub is beautifully decorated too. Only downside was, I could have eaten more! But really recommend.

The Red Lion Inn
75 High St, Bridge, Canterbury CT4 5LB, UK | Bar P: 01227 832213
Rating: 4.4 (459) Price Level:
Lovely pub, really good food and very well priced but you get what you pay for and that isn’t a great deal. I would rather pay more and get enough to fill me up. There was 16 or us and we pre ordered. No problems with the food at all but we all left still feeling hungry. Would definitely go back but only if the portions were better and if that means we pay more then that’s fine. Decent food for decent money.

Smugglers
212 Canterbury Rd, Birchington-on-Sea, Birchington CT7 9AQ, UK | Restaurant P: 01843 841185
Rating: 4.4 (342) Price Level:
What a lovely way to spend Valentine’s Day, had the set menu, was super tasty and I thought the price was very good considering taste & service. I had the sweet chilli halloumi, fillet Rossini and Baileys cheesecake. Thoroughly enjoyed all three courses.

We celebrated our wedding at the Smuggler's Inn in May. As a wedding venue and family-run restaurant, we highly recommend this beautiful historic place! Bob, Lisa and the team were incredibly helpful, transparent and communicative and made sure everything ran smoothly on the day. The venue cost and three course meals were very reasonably priced so that we were able to have the small wedding we wanted without restricting ourselves! Our friends and family had nothing but praise for the food, everyone was very impressed. The function room can be decorated nicely, and the Smugglers has a lovely outdoor area where a ceremony can be held. We've also dined at the Smugglers before and admired the home-cooked quality of the food, the fact they serve a bread roll and butter with dinner, and the obvious passion of the owners for their restaurant. Uploading some pictures of the venue and food shot by the amazing Jade Brya Photography (also active in Thanet and highly recommended!)

The Smugglers held a wake for my family. They produced sandwiches, cake, coffee and tea. Perfect for our needs that day. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Communication before the event was efficient. They have very limited parking, but there is parking pay and display a short distance away. I would recommend.

The Smugglers catered for our mum's 70th birthday today, we chose afternoon tea for 30 people. The service was great, very attentive warm and accommodating. The sandwiches were tasty, ham was particularly nice. The cakes and scones were outstanding, warm and freshly baked scones with proper clotted cream and jam were absolutely delicious. Their regular menu looked good so will have to go back to try it.

The Swan
The Chapel Down Winery, Small Hythe Rd, Tenterden TN30 7NG, UK | Restaurant P: 01580 761616
Rating: 4.4 (193) Price Level:
Had previously visited Chapel Down for a vineyard tour and wine tasting and had wanted to visit the restaurant for a while. Dinner menu is decent, lots of choices. Pork belly option was very good. Went on a Saturday night and it was fairly busy and good atmosphere.
Rating: 5 / 5
Excellent gastronomic experience. Imaginative dishes - vegetable sides outstanding. Mackerel starter was fabulous. Good value, great service. High end dining at a reasonable price.
Rating: 4 / 5
We thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch at The Swan after a wine tasting and tour at Chapel Down. An inviting menu did not disappoint with starters of asparagus, morels and truffled egg yolk, tiger prawn and kimchee toast and tomato with cashew ricotta and raspberry. All beautifully executed and utterly delicious. Mains of ribeye of beef and pork loin with apple butter were equally impressive and accompanied by an exquisite array of fresh vegetables. Yuzu and orange tart followed and it was all washed down with a lovely crisp white by Chapel Down. Service was friendly, skilled and well judged and it all made for a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. I would highly recommend The Swan whether you’re wine tasting beforehand or not!
Rating: 5 / 5
Me and my parents came and had the most wonderful meal. Kate served us who was the shining star from everyone else and gave us so much help with my mums bad hip. I had the tomato salad to start, trout and then lemon merengue. The trout was cooked to perfection and the ricotta on the starter was super creamy. Definitely recommend the fish dishes 🐟 Georgy x
Rating: 4 / 5
Each dishes are well decorated. Asparagus was fresh and the Lamb Rump was tender. I felt varieties of Chapel Down sparkling wine selections were limited. I would like to try Three Graces etc without ordering a bottle. Rating 4-star for food given that it’s a £45 for three courses.

Sun Inn Public House & Restaurant
The St, Birchington CT7 0NP, UK | Bar P: 01843 841632
Rating: 4.4 (123) Price Level:
We visited for a mother's day meal, one of our party has special dietary requirements, which was discussed when the booking was made. There was an issue with this on arrival, however the chef came and spoke to our family member with the dietary requirements. The chef kindly rectified the issue and even gave us this meal on the house. The roast was very nice and the apple crumble was without a doubt the best I've ever tasted.
