Slightly slow service but food was fantastic and a very cool old pub

Everything was perfect , food staff politeness, and atmosphere.
The only reason I add 4 stars is the long waiting time to be served after we’ve ordered. The table behind us came later and they’ve been served quicker than us.
Maybe was a random occasion and happen to us but just wanted to mention as improving area for the pub.

Only just got in, exceptionally busy at lunchtime. Excellent modules marinere. The steak pie though wasn't all that good. It was soggy. Very thin pastry with more mushrooms than meat. But we'd happily return and try other items on the menu.

It was a lovely dining experience. The staff were fast and it's obviously very popular. The pub itself is very charming, watch your head in the bar area if you're over 6ft tall though. Even people of my average height will want to avoid walking with a spring in your step 🤣 the garden area is also lovely. Check your bill carefully - we were charged for something the table behind us had. Staff sorted it quickly though. There's also something on the menu that promises extra roasted potatoes and Yorkshire puddings if you want them but this was never offered in practice. Overall a good experience, but could be great.

I’ve visited here 3 times in the last 4 weeks, and each time the service has been good and the restaurant is usually very busy. The set lunch is brilliant value at £18.50 for two courses and the food is usually really really tasty. (Wasn’t impressed with the bread and butter pudding though - way too stodgy!)
