Reviews
Honestly this food took me back to Greece, everything we had tasted really good and was cooked well. They make proper tzatziki, none of that putting mint in it nonsense!
Service was good - all very friendly and helpful, as well as being accommodating when we wanted to swap tables due to having a wheelchair user with us.
A Warm Welcome to Authentic Greek Cuisine: A Family-Run Delight!
We absolutely love AVRA, and it's easy to see why! The magic of this place lies in its unbeatable combination of exceptional value and tantalizing flavours. Every dish is crafted with high-quality fresh ingredients and cooked to absolute perfection, leaving us craving more after every portion.
The food is simply outstanding. You can taste the expertise and passion in every dish, and it truly shines through in each bite. From the starters to the mains, everything was prepared to the highest standard and was absolutely delicious.
A special shoutout to Thomas and the staff, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Their genuine attentiveness added to the experience, making it feel even more special. The restaurant’s relaxed ambiance and comfortable seating only enhanced our evening leaving us excited to return.

🇬🇷 🍴 - My Wonderful Evening at Avra Greek Restaurant
I had the most amazing experience at Avra Greek Restaurant in Sutton last night. I was originally planning on getting Greek food delivered, but I stumbled upon Avra and decided to dine in – a decision I’m so glad I made!
The Vibe:
Even though it was a busy evening (one of the busiest of the week, in fact!), the staff were incredibly welcoming. I was a bit nervous about eating at the bar due to my neurodiversity and autism, as social interaction can sometimes be challenging for me. However, from the moment I arrived, I felt at ease. It’s clear that Avra is a family-run business, and that warmth really comes through.
The Food (Oh. My. Goodness.):
* Tiropitakia/Spanakopitakia: I started with these delicious pastries. The manager (I think his name was Thomas – if I’m wrong, I apologize!) recommended the spinach, and he was spot on. The pastry was perfectly crispy, and the filling was divine. I ordered a mix of spinach and cheese (three spinach, two cheese), and I’ll definitely be sticking with spinach in the future.
* Mousaka: This was hands down the BEST moussaka I have ever had. I’ve had homemade before, and even tried the “Taste the Difference” version from Sainsbury’s, but this was on another level. The portion was huge (I went with the barman’s recommendation of chips), and I almost couldn’t finish it, but it was too good to leave any behind! It was truly mouth-watering.
* Kormos: I was so full after the moussaka that I sadly had to pass on dessert, especially as they had run out of the Kormos I was looking forward to trying. I’ll definitely be back to sample it!
The People:
The service was fantastic, even though I was sitting at the bar. Thomas (if that’s his name!) and the other staff were so friendly and attentive. I even told them about my Greek family connections – my British Uncle Philip married my Greek Auntie Lalela, and they live near the Acropolis in Athens. I’m hoping to bring them to Avra next time they’re in the UK so they can experience it themselves (though my aunt is a tough critic when it comes to Greek food outside of Greece!).
The Value:
Even with my accidental purchase of bottled water (I meant to ask for tap!), my meal came to under £30. Incredible value for such amazing, authentic food.
Final Thoughts:
Despite being tired from the previous evening, I had a truly lovely time at Avra. It’s a small place, so I understand why they get fully booked so quickly. They’re open for lunch and dinner, and they even close for holidays after New Year and in the summer to give the family a break, which I think is great. I can’t wait to return (when I’m feeling a bit more refreshed!) and bring friends and family with me. If you’re looking for authentic Greek food in Sutton, Avra is an absolute must-try! - 🍴🇬🇷
PS. Summarised using Google AI as my original review was too long for Google Maps and it kept chopping it off as there were too many characters! I've made sure it stayed true to the original.
We went there for my husband's birthday..it was a last minute booking but they managed to accommodate us...nice spacious restaurant. The waiter who was looking after us was very polite. Starters were delicious..we tried their cocktails which were very nice too.. we ordered steaks and chicken gyros for mains...the gyros was nice but I felt it was slightly on the dry side..a special mention of the taziki dip- it was authentic. they got us a lovely chocolate lava cake with ice-cream on the house to celebrate the occasion. It was very nice and we loved it..
They have a separate bar area which was a bonus where we hung out after the meal..
